Season of the Witch
CHARACTERS: Evangeline Silvercloud, Nathaniel Zale, & Lorna Dane.
TOPIC: "Quoth the Raven."
DATE & TIME: Monday, July 27th 2020. 9:15am.
LOCATION: Headmistresses Office.
Nathaniel Zale approached the oversized desk he'd been directed to, a messenger bag over his shoulder and a guest badge clipped to his lapel. He stopped short of the desk and waited for the green-haired woman to notice him from beyond her computer screen. He immediately recognized her as a patron of his store, her and a somewhat twitchy significant other.
Lorna quickly tabbed through her browser in an attempt to keep her work and school separated when she noticed the unfamiliar shadow darken her desk. She looked beyond her monitor, and Lorna realized it was the tall, dark, and vaguely handsome bookstore owner. "Mr. Zale, I'm glad you were able to make it," Lorna greeted.
"I was surprised the Headmistress was able to see me so quickly," Nathaniel confessed, unprepared for this meeting to happen so soon. "But I appreciate it," he said. "I also tried to reach out to Mr. Silvercloud, but I couldn't seem to get a good number," Nathaniel shared.
"No," Lorna firmly pushed the intercom button on her sizeable desk phone and uttered her message, "Mr. Zale is here to see you, Ma'am." She released and continued her conversation with Nathaniel. "Mr. Silvercloud doesn't take many phone calls," she smiled. "And I may have fast-tracked your meeting because I appreciate you not reporting my boyfriend's book-buying habits to the authorities," Lorna admitted before she caused the nearest office door to open toward her.
Nathaniel captured the information about Headmistresses Silvercloud's father but wasn't sure how to respond to the woman's comment about her boyfriend. "Nobody's business but his," He answered, though it was a lie. It was already Nate's business, but that didn't mean he had to share it. "But, thank you," he said and walked purposefully toward the open door.
He entered the large, well-furnished, sweet-scented office, and looked over his shoulder when the heavy door closed behind him. Headmistress Silvercloud he presumed, was the woman behind the even larger desk. Giosetta had primed him for a visit with the woman, but the title Headmistress had prepared him for a more Professor McGonagall. Evangeline Silvercloud shattered that expectation. Caramel skin and rounded features, she cut a striking pose from her seat before him. "Headmistress, I'm sorry to bother you, but I believe I might have something that belongs to you," he opened his messenger bag and produced the book in question.
Wrapped neatly in brown paper to protect the historic tome, Nathaniel placed the book and her desk. He unfolded the paper so that it remained beneath the book and exposed the cover to the light. "The Sorceress Revolt or Quelling the Demons: an account by Raven Silvercloud," he read the title aloud and then pulled a second notebook from his bag. "Discovered not far from here in a private library, with similar books dated to the 1690s," Nathaniel shared, unable to quell his excitement.
