Impressed by each room more than the last, when Nathaniel finally laid eyes on the Madam Mayor's office, and he was not disappointed. Though, it was more modern than he'd expected. They were greeted and Nate's eyes fell upon Eva's form naturally. The taller man had seen the leader of the local mutant society in photos before, but this was his first face to face. Evangeline's eyes hadn't properly been captured he mentally noted - they held a power that the digital photography had failed to represent.
"Thank you, Madam Mayor," Nathaniel said and aimed the closest thing he'd had to a smile since he'd arrived toward her. She was preoccupied with his son, something Nathaniel would hardly fault her for. The boy had a charm that Nathaniel couldn't deny, God help Nate if Brayden ever discovered this - or how to weaponize it.
"Yes, ma'am," Brayden only spoke when spoken to, like his father had instructed. Though, he was uncomfortable with all of the mayor's attention on him. She was pretty, spoke of other children, and video games, all things his dad hadn't prepared him for. "It's glad to meet you too, I mean," he stumbled but he didn't feel the need to correct what he'd said. Her smile seemed to say everything was okay. Brayden looked to his father for permission and was thrilled, and surprised, beyond belief when it was granted. "Thank you, ma'am," he echoed as Mr. William led him away and toward the promise of fun.
They shook hands while Mayor Silvercloud's attention was still focused on Brayden, but Nathaniel's observations were squarely on Evangeline. When their hands made contact an explosion was set off with his mind - his mutation. The electrokinesis/cyberpathy weren't the extents of her extraordinary gifts. Magic laid within her, sleeping and dormant but there. He didn't realize how long their connection had lasted, because he'd spent the entire time trying to gauge her potential. She spoke and he shook off the wonder his face might have betrayed. "No, maybe," he said, he'd only waivered because of his revelation. Water? "Yes, water," he smirked again and regained some of his composure. "Hm?" That bad? "Oh, yes, actually," he said voice free of irony. "I started from California, but I didn't pick Brayden up until Iowa so - he didn't have too long to suffer," Nate explained.
He accepted the water thankfully and decided to remain standing. "I wanted to thank you for giving me, us, this chance. Brayden's never had the chance to be raised with other people like him," he shared and realized her eyes had disarmed him without his knowledge. Nate knew he needed to be more tight-lipped and change the subject. "The manor is lovely, I hope the library is a tenth this grand," he observed and watched her intently.
