Eva had sent a reply to Nate's letter, having felt a flicker of hope, but had still simply gone through the motions of her day with the general funk of uncertainty she'd been harboring. Her heart ached, but she had done her very best to haul up a facade, even if it required the use of a barricade to keep it upright.
The hour had come faster than she'd imagined it would, but still, the queen had counted the minutes when she had free ones to count. Without ceremony, she opened the door Nate had made note of and her chest swelled with happiness and inhaled air at the sight of him (who had been early on purpose, no doubt). She shook her head 'no' in agreement that he was right - she shouldn't be denied decorator's rights. Her face had been even but pleasant, until he looked up properly and was smiling, proud of himself. "It should," Zap agreed, hopefully telling her ex-Hand that he needn't explain the concept to her. The student had long-since become the colleague.
"It's the first pocket universe I've created."
"It's a good first try," she gave him an encouraging nod like she might've one of the children, teasingly, then sighed again at the sight of him. They had their own space, now. Her eyes were half-lidded in a dreamy expression as Nate extended his hand for hers. She met him halfway. "I feel underdressed..." she mused as her eyes took in the nooks and crannies of the room (taking notes simultaneously). She locked their fingers of the hands they held together and leaned against Nate's shoulder just before they came to a stop. This was her nursery's door...
The air in the room that had been opened to them smelled perfect. It was exactly right. It was real. "Monsters Incorporated..." she whispered distractedly to Nate as she smirked at the sight (and sounds) of Omen. Zap extracted herself from the waist up as the door was shut again and she turned to face her... Who needed labels? "It is perfect. This is..." she closed her eyes at the feel of his fingers on her face, "what I needed. What we needed," Zap corrected herself. Her hand had slowly risen and finally came in contact with the chest of Nate's smart coat. They danced there lightly for a few seconds, as if making sure it was all a reality. "I want to sleep here every night," the queen said hastily, then wrapped her arms around his wide waist and held the new king against her. She opened one eye and it focused in on the bed. "After I change out that duvet." She sent a loving wave of static to his hair, which effectively ruffled it, then drew back.
