DARK SHADOWS SCHISM
CHARACTERS: Eva, Nate, Mikhail.
TOPIC: Hurtful things.
DATE & TIME: Monday, February 5, 2018 - 9:08am.
LOCATION: Eva's office.
RATING: M for Mikhail. You thought I was going to say Murphy.
Nathaniel Zale was the victim of an anticlimactic entrance onto the stage that was Xavier's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A victim, though the wound was very much self-inflicted and not without purpose. Nathaniel had traveled to the home Xavier had built to right a simple wrong, however, the mystical mutant had discovered much more than he'd anticipated.
With no desire to appear out of place or unfriendly, Nate had graciously met the Headmistress and her inner circle with the blessing of his often time benefactor Warren. The sometimes described as brooding man had made himself a fixture inside the school's library and had successfully blended into the backdrop. The shininess of his newness properly dulled, Nate hoped to cast much less of a glare when he requested a meeting with Eva Logan... alone.
Eva had been as hospitable as he'd come to expect and agreed to said conference, even with the offer of refreshments. Pleasantries aside, Nathaniel did not waste either of their time.
"I'm a father," Nate had begun with his low pitched and Midwestern vibrato, "with the full understanding of how this would sound if someone said it to me." Nate didn't gesture, he sat and his hands stayed purposefully still on his lap. "I believe your children are in danger here and I think I can help you. I was not completely honest about my reason for remaining in Westchester. While I would like my son to one day attend this school, that's only a small piece of it. I remained here because somewhere nearby is an ancient and malevolent mutant."
"Is rude to speak about someone when they are not present to defend themselves." Mikhail appeared from the darkest corner in Eva's office, not intentionally. He presented his hands in a non-threatening manner to the mama bear and nodded his head in a sign of respect.
"Not him," Nathaniel noted, annoyance spelled out across his brow. "This Rasputin is merely a nuisance."
"He says hurtful things?" Mikhail pointed with only his finger toward the seated man and the Russian's eyes never left Eva. "But I believe he is on to something. Which is why I took your text message very seriously."
Nathaniel clamped his tongue between his teeth and forced himself to show restraint, he hardly needed Mikhail's vote of confidence. "As I was saying..." he attempted to board his thought train, in their now less private meeting. "For over millennia, this mutant has traversed our world and the astral plane." Nathaniel watched the new mother, already aware of her newfound projection powers.
"You are shit at this," Mikhail added, not a fan of Nate's brand of foreplay. "We have to get your children to safety. Especially your daughter."
Nathaniel stood, but not to challenge Mikhail physically, but verbally. "Your daughter has extensive astral abilities and this mutant would likely want to bury itself into her mind and grow within her like a parasite. I know - it's done it before."
"Better." Mikhail gave notes. "I know a place you could go, somewhere astral beings cannot survive without a body." Though, his tone was less than favorable.
Nate should have snapped at Mikhail, but when Cosmo mentioned a location astral beings couldn't survive... Nathaniel knew it, but only from stories. "How did you find it?"
"I am... more than a nuisance, then?" Mikhail countered with a wide smile. "There is one problem." He started, then explained to Eva. This realm, populated by friendly people, was not in sync with their time stream. Years there would only equal moments here. If Eva took her family there for safety, she would certainly return with full grown children before they weeded out their problem. The positive side would be that all the children would be prepared to deal with such a threat. Not defeneless, adorable, newborns. Risk lay everywhere.
Tumblers snapped into place inside Nathaniel's mind when the existence of this place became a reality. Though he was hesitant to mention why. The Silvercloud-Logan children being older would explain several things he'd foreseen for the future, no, deemed necessary for the future. "Once your children are safe, I can begin the process of rooting out this being. Though, I warn you... either way the process will be unpleasant."
