DARK SHADOWS
CHARACTERS: Two Murhpys, ah ah ah.
TOPIC: Dream On.
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, January 23nd, 2018 - 10:15pm.
LOCATION: Losing My Religion.
RATING: M for Murphy.
The text conversation between Mars and Reverie that day had been sparse, to the chagrin of Ronan and probably the vexation of Gael. The clinically paranoid Irishman had his reason, though, the reason he was sure the too-smart-for-her-own-good Irishwoman probably picked up on. The cell towers had ears and Saruman's spies were ever-present. Though, there wasn't really a Saruman was there? No. The only 'evil' that Mars feared was attention.
Ronan had done what he'd promised his brother, abandoned Westchester to give the other Murphys a chance to fill the void. He judged by their social media posts that day, it had gone as well as he'd imagined it. The bond the Irish cousins had formed wasn't simply based on their collective saltiness. They'd quickly become each other's person... for better or worse.
Mars had gone along with Grasp's plan only to keep up appearances. He'd intended an earnest attempt, but that was just hours before Gael's dream-crashing. Things had changed now, hadn't they?
Ronan pressed send on his final text of the evening, from a twin bed inside the sad Nebraskan motel room. A simple, not very articulate message to Gael. 'Turning in for the night. Have a good night.' What the text lacked in imagination, it exploded in intention. The expert on mutation had deduced that because Gael had already entered his mind while he'd slept, she'd have no problem making the return trip. Even with the extra distance.
Ronan laid his head down on his pillow, conflicted to high hell. Wouldn't it just be easier if it didn't work? No, he decided. Mars had thrown his lot in with Reverie, they'd stand back to back at some point to defend themselves, Ronan knew. But that's what you did for family, wasn't it? What you did for people you loved, which was the last thing Ronan Murphy thought before he slipped away into the aether.
