"They did," Frankie said with a laugh, "but they were helping more than anything." she said of the other two. Kiernan continued to speak and Frankie's legs felt less rubbery. "That sounds okay," she paused, for a few seconds. "One minute." she said hurriedly and moved to the table where the others were and grabbed the bottle of vodka, forgoing a glass, she poured a shot into her mouth without touching the bottle with her lips.
She returned to Kiernan and gave him a smile. "Okay, now is good." Why was she being so stupid? Frankie blamed Christmas. This time of year was always a little rough, but this one seemed to be a bumpier road. "So," she said after they'd gotten settled in a booth away from most of the people. "How're things?" It was a simple, but loaded question. And honestly she was feeling a little stupid, which wasn't something Frankie liked. "We just haven't talked in a while and I was just wondering where your head was about everything."
