Millicent's eyes immediately shifted to the book in Charlie's hands. It was a habit she'd kept from her school days when the Slytherin girls made a game of stealing library books borrowed by students in other houses. Each week they'd pick a new title to pursue. Millicent had been good at the on-going scavenger hunt. Only Pansy had more points than she. Snape had known all about it, of course.
"I don't for a moment believe you are actually reading, but at least you're making an effort to improve your observational skills," she remembered him remarking after noticing her rifling through a neglected Gryffindor book bag and stuffing a charms treatise under her robe. He'd taken points, but had done nothing about informing the wronged student or returning the book. The memory of the incensed girl complaining about her missing book brought a smile to Millicent's face, making the expression she turned on Charlie much friendlier than usual.
"Excused," she replied lightly. "I see you found a book. I don't know how you managed it. This shop is completely mismanaged."
