rebecca > cross
Rebecca doesn’t fret over the fact there’s a lot about Cross she doesn’t know. There’s a lot about her he doesn’t know in return, and while she’s a far more talkative person about herself—she respects the fact he has the right to his own secrets. There are things he’s told her, or she’s come to know, and while she is curious, she also understands that there are things she’s better off not knowing. So as tempting as it is to be nosey sometimes, she’s capable of putting up her hands and saying “alright”.
It’s part of how they work, in a way. It’d be a lie to say it’s entirely casual at this point because she has gotten to the point of caring about him. And she’s got the feeling he’s not without returning a similar feeling. But when people talk about ‘loving someone’ there is usually two defined types, the romantic and intensely tunneled towards one person type and the platonic, friend type. But Rebecca, in a sense, loves everyone she likes. It’s just how she cares about people; she’s quick to really develop a bond that includes tons of friendly compassion whether or not attraction is also part of the mix. So theoretically, if you are friends with her, she loves you.
Yet “Love” is always loaded word. But another thing about Rebecca is her openness? She’s capable of monogamy, make no mistake, but her life has lead her down a certain road where dreams of white picket fences and living with your soul mate forever and ever just don’t happen. Hell, living to thirty is still something she’s shooting for. Open relationships just work for her, she’s not a jealous person and she doesn’t believe people have one singular soul mate either. She believes people fit together like puzzle pieces, and when one piece changes, another is always there to fill the space. People’s energies and attractions just naturally happen, and she just shrugs. If you want to go sleep with someone, go do it. She’d do the same thing. (And of course they have that unspoken respect that the house is not for booty calls that aren’t with each other.)
Cross’ life and job and home world are all fucked up, for the record. His world is fucked up. It scares her. Her own world is as terrible as it can really get, and yet she knows his is ten times worse. She really admires him, because despite all his ego and stubborn, she’s seen him to be an actually really… selfless? What he’s done with his Innocence is dangerous, and yet he’s doing it for everyone’s sake against the dumbass Noah of Dicks. She hates not being able to do anything herself in that respect, except pick bloody bits from his mask and give him a drink.
