Spike has chosen whiskey as his last meal, which seems about as on-brand as anything. He's nonchalant about this, though on the inside there's a tight knot of anxiety - facing the apocalypse usually means dying or surviving, not picking a course for the rest of your life. He thought he had it figured out, but now on the day..?

He shrugs.

"Seemed like a good idea, but..."

"Why don't we start small, and decide from there?" Ianto suggests gently. Jack he isn't worried about; it's an adventure off to unknown worlds and when has he ever been able to resist that? Spike's reluctance is expected as well but he can't help remembering that conversation they had about forever, the one they both meant. He isn't going to walk away from a future that might hold that for them.

"You'll be needing your soul back. We can help accomplish that the right way this time and then decide where we go. We don't have to plan our whole future at once."

Oh yeah, Jack'll be happy wherever they decide to go. Even if, to be honest, even if they start off just sightseeing, they're bound to start stepping in and starting to save people again sooner or later.

He looks round at Ianto's comment, chuckling. "Do you know, I'd almost forgotten about the soul. In that case, you're definitely coming with us, Spike - at least until we've got the soul sorted out!"

"And just how do you propose we do that?"

He quirks a brow, getting a Bad Feeling about all of this - he's a liability and will continue to be one until he has the soul sorted, which he might not even bother with doing once they're home. So much of this is unknown and he's antsy to get to it, fight the problem head on rather than speculate. Following through on plans was never his strong suit.

"Last I checked, Sunnydale was the best place for it so unless you lot want a California vacation, might be better if I go at it alone."

"I've never been to California." Ianto replies with a faint smile. It sounds like a good first stop and while he has his own vampire plans that they've sort of tentatively discussed those aren't the priority now. Like he said, one step at a time. And as much as a risk as a soulless Spike might be they all know he isn't leaving him.

"What do you think? I imagine you wouldn't say know to a state known for its beaches." He adds to Jack. Souls, sand, there's something for everyone.

Well. That turned from an off-hand suggestion to an actual plan really fast, didn't it? The details are still fuzzy, but heading back to California to tie up some loose ends might be the best course of action right now. After that, who knows. He wouldn't mind reclaiming his soul the demon-bashing way rather than with a curse, but perhaps there are other ways to go about it.

"Guess that's settled, then. Though I got a feeling I'd still be better off leaving you two in LA, before Jack shags the entire high school."

Then again, that would be perfectly in line with all the other shit that happens on the hell mouth.

"We'll just have to come up with some way to keep your attention," Ianto shoots back to Jack with one of his trademark smirks that, if he's honest, is really more of a smile just now. Being here always felt temporary, like some sort of holding pattern but this is the first time he's felt genuinely hopeful about the future in a long time. They have a plan, they have each other, and for now he can't think of anything else he might need.

Making up plans on the hoof is how Jack tends to work. Think of something and go for it, and if it doesn't work out, improvise some more!

"Please, high school kids are a little young for me!" he protests, and then grins at Ianto. "I'm sure you'll think of something," he assures him, voice rich with promise.

"And of course we're coming with you," he says, turning back to Spike, sobering abruptly. He gives Spike a serious look. "The least we can do is be there for you, help you through it."

Try to get it right this time.

"Sure they are." he quips back with an eyeroll, the mirth soon dying out as Jack gives him that look. It's- weird. Not because it's Jack but because Spike keeps realising that he hasn't really had this before, someone who's really got his back and not just until the going gets tough or they're sick of playing with him. This is for real. This is solid, terrifying, serious, with no room for fuck-ups and honestly, at this point he's up to the task.

"California, then... and if that fails, Africa." He remembers as much. The chip is a different set of problems entirely but for now it's probably for the best not to think about it - might actually help the process, a bit.

"Hell, if you got time to kill there's plenty of places worth stopping by."

They can make it a vacation, a world tour under the cover of darkness - at least for him. Man, he'll miss not being set on fire soon as he steps out the door.

There's a lot he wants to say; hat he loves both of them, that of course they have his back, that this is just the first of countless adventures he imagines they'll have. But that all seems rather sentimental and a bit unnecessary. They all know it at this point and while this may be an ending for this place it's just a beginning for the three of them. So he settles on a fond smile as he replies, "I had better start some of my lists, then. One for places to see, one for things to entertain Jack on the way. I think I can manage some interesting suggestions on both accounts."

He grins round at both of them. "Sounds like a plan!" He winks at Ianto. "Got a few places I can think of to show you too - especially if I can get the time travel function on my wrist strap working again!"

The more he thinks about it, the more excited he feels for their future together. Spike is only a very recent addition to the plan of showing Ianto the universe, but the idea of all three of them heading out together, not only for sight-seeing but to tackle the task of getting Spike his soul back first... yeah, it's exciting. He grins. "Feels a bit like when I started out with the Doctor and Rose, this. No idea what's coming, but that's what's exciting about it!"

Try as he might to play it cool, he can't hide the excitement creeping in now that it seems like they may actually be on their way and even if he ends up back in Sunnydale alone he'll have places to go. He won't be stuck in the same small circle of streets and buildings day in and day out. He can steal a car and just go. He can stow away on a freight ship and head to China. He's not going to be trapped and that's exciting on its own.

Having company? Yeah, of course he's grinning, madly.
