[ Two-hundred and ninety-six days

He never thought this day would come. A couple of months back he even hoped he'd get to stay, but as time moved on that hope turned into a slow, soul-killing dread — they're never leaving. And now here they are, even if he's far too cautious to actually believe this will end well. The possibility is there, in this place where the unexpected is the most common outcome, but the variables are too unknown.

There's a restlessness in him as he paces the sector, an anxiety about what happens next — will he remember? Or will he forget all about this? A bigger question is which outcome he'd prefer, if they really do go home, and how much he'd try to change the outcome if he does remember. Will he call Nathan? Will he move on from Maeve, or is he simply returning right back into the worst moment of his life, or - another sobering thought - are they dropping him off at the dinnerparty at Rossi, the taste of red wine lingering in his mouth, a year and a half ahead of him that he could maybe change..?

He doesn't know, and so Reid paces. Time drags on. 426 240 minutes. 426 241 minutes. 426 242 minutes... ]

[Seeing Mickey again never entered Martha's mind until that morning. That she was going home to him was... unbelievable. And yet, there were people here she was going to miss. She watched Reid pace a moment or two before walking up, stopping short of his path so as to not completely disrupt him.]

Is this pacing for anxiety to leave, or anxiety as to what you'll find out there?

Of course they always could be saying it to calm us down. Maybe they're actually taking us to a worse prison. Maybe we're all going to die. Or maybe we're actually getting to go back to our lives. Or other lives.

I want to believe we're going home. I want to be somewhere where things make sense. Where I have a purpose and people who love me.
