Day 442 / Video and action / open
Video – 9 am

I assume it doesn't need to be said, but everyone get yourselves and anything you want to hang onto to Sector 0.

Anyone need help with anything, let me know.

Action – open

He spends the morning in Sector 2, picking up a few bits they might need in MAHR and then checking for anyone he needs to shoo out of the sector. He pauses to gaze at the Defence Force Headquarters where he spent so much of his time until the last few weeks, and the Library, where Ianto spent so much of his. A whole lot of memories there and who knows if they'll ever return.

The early afternoon is Sector 3, where he checks in briefly on the clinic, visits the hot springs for memory's sake, and then heads for the Bull's Eye store, where he starts loading sleeping bags and other equipment onto trolleys and shuttling them through to Sector 0.

Sector 4 is more personal. He's lived here the whole eight months he's been here, and built up a lot of memories. Bean Crushers, where he gets the last perfectly brewed coffee from his pet bot Taylor. The Daffodil Dive, with the conflicting emotions it invokes. The little row of restaurants called Little Earth where he and Ianto have eaten so many meals. Captain Jack's Exotic Emporium, a more recent venture but one he's put of effort a lot into; he bags up a few of his favourite items to take with him, just in case. And then there's the apartment he's shared with Ianto all this time, chock full of memories, and quite a few little mementoes he's determined not to leave behind, things like the little book of photos Ianto gave him at 'Christmas', and the box of photos he'd lost in the Hub that the wardens had thoughtfully recreated for him.

Come evening, he can be found in Sector 0, mentally checking people off to make sure everyone's there, and wandering around to see if anyone needs a hand setting up.

It's odd to be saying goodbye to the apartment that's been their home for the last 245 days. Ianto isn't one to get sentimental about things like this but even so this one is particularly hard. He doesn't have much worth bringing with him either. The pocket watch Jack gave him for Christmas, Spike's engagement ring, the small stuffed bear he and Kitty won at ring toss on day 200. The plant Chuck gave him after he died won't travel well so he leaves it behind but he does bring the diary he's kept during his time here. Everything else in his bag is all business; clothes, a torch, first aid kit, toothbrush. Despite the fact that they'll likely be camping out tonight he's in a suit just now. Wouldn't feel right to face trouble without one.

He pauses at the door, taking one last, lingering look around the place that unexpectedly became their home. "Remember our first day here?"

He watches Ianto sorting through what to take, amused by his choice of clothes, but understanding it too. He's in his own battle dress, after all, so why shouldn't Ianto be in his. (Of course, his battle dress is also his seduction dress, his 'vaguely appropriate for quite a few periods of history' dress, and his 'standing looking enigmatic on top of tall buildings' dress, but that only makes it even more important to be wearing it.)

He's about to join Ianto at the door when he remembers the disc the wardens made him of memories of the Doctor, and he dashes back to retrieve it from its drawer, stowing it away safely in his rucksack. Then he comes to Ianto and slides and arm around his waist, taking a long last look round their home, and chuckling at Ianto's question. "Heh, quite a day that was! Nude broadcast from the beach, reunion with the love I'd thought lost forever, spectacular sex, and finishing up with getting black banded for it!"

Watching Jack collect sentimental objects is a bit strange. He was always so good at hiding those sorta of things at the Hub that Ianto never pictured him as someone who would collect any mementos of his past. It's funny how much he's learned about him here, how much he's been allowed to see. He never would have imagined it when they arrived.

"Not all of us were nude on the beach," He points out dryly, his own arm wrapping around Jack's waist as he takes a moment to say goodbye to all this. "This was only supposed to be short term, wasn't it? The idea of actually living with me seemed to frighten you when we picked out this place."

"Shame," he grins, because Ianto nude on the beach would have been yummy!

Then the grin turns a little self-conscious at Ianto's observation. "It did," he admits, with a little shrug. "The idea that it meant committing to something, when I'd already just lost you once... Hell, it still scares me to death."

Especially given their seemingly unlikely future in this place.

It all seems so long ago. They were different people then, at least when it came to their relationship with each other. When they arrived he was still hard at work pretending to himself this relationship was never going to be anything more than just sex and some good times. That he had to hide his feelings from Jack because surely they must be one sided. That this was never going to be anything real. All of that has changed and a great deal of it happened here and even though he doesn't know what the future holds leaving this place that became their home feels like the end of a chapter. Like there was be something final about closing that door.

There's so much he wants to say but in the end he just smiles, turning his gaze away from their surroundings to Jack's face. "These last eight months have been the best of my life. I'm glad we both got our second chance."

((I've been rereading some of our old threads in some end of game nostalgia. We did a dang good job with these boys here.))

Kanji is loitering around Sector 0, and under any other circumstances he'd look like a teen whose looking for trouble to cause. He's got his favorite folding chair weapon slung over his shoulder and is hanging out staring into the nothingness that used to be the other sectors. The effect is sort of ruined by the pet bunny he's got on a leash but whatever.

He gives Jack a nod as he passes by. "Sup?"

The image Kanji presents sometimes amuses him, but today he's mostly just glad to have him around. Not that he's expecting physical trouble, but Kanji seems like a useful sort of person to have around if it does manifest.

"Hey, Kanji," he says warmly, and grins down at the bunny. "Who's this? I don't think we've been introduced!"

He is useful at times like this. He might not be able to problem solve what's happening to them but he can sure do his best to punch it.

"Huh? Oh. Mochi. I didn't wanna leave her behind." So he brought her and basically nothing else. He didn't even remember a sleeping bag. "This is some freaky shit huh?"

It doesn't seem likely that any of them are going to be able to problem solve what's happening this time. And he hates that, which means he's being aggressively cheerful right now in defiance of his frustration.

"Pretty damn freaky, yeah," he agrees, crouching down to give the rabbit a stroke. "And of course you shouldn't leave her behind. We've all brought along what's most important to us." He grins. "In my case, that's Ianto, but pets are important too!"

He gets it. Rise kinda does the same thing when times get rough. Admittedly she's a cute teen idol so the aggressively cheerful thing works kinda different on her but whatever. Everybody's got a way to cope. For as frantic as he usually is Kanji's always been cool in a crisis.

"Dude you just compared your boyfriend to my pet rabbit." Even Kanji knows you don't do that and he's the most tactless person on the planet. Mochi seems to take after him and sits there calm and friendly as Jack pets her. "Think they'll replace the old Sectors with some cool new stuff?"

Martha nodded to Jack as he came by. She had "set up" near the temporary medical center. Of course, she hadn't really brought much for herself. Just a knapsack with the few really special items and a couple other things needed for survival.

"We got most of the clinic out. Hopefully we won't need to use it."

This, he supposed, was the Martha the people of Earth had seen during that year he'd spent on the Valiant. Calm and collected, doing what needed to be done.

He smiled ruefully. "Yeah, I kinda get the impression there's not going to be a lot here that's going to attack us physically." Even if he'd rather it was that kind of threat.

He supposed right. This was exactly what she had done, minus the added journey around the world sharing stories and avoiding capture.

"Let's hope not. Nothing's going to come out of Sector 6... and there don't seem to be any cephalopods attacking."

Martha sat down, leaning against her pack. "Feels weird to have it all disappearing. I wonder how long this will hold out. ... I wonder what happens when it doesn't."

"Yeah, trying not to think too much about that," he agreed with grim humour, settling down beside her. It had been a long day and he'd been on his feet for most of it. He glanced about at what had been the entrances to the other sectors, now grey and blank. "Have to say, the signs so far haven't exactly been promising."

"No, they really haven't. Wasn't planning on going like this. Though maybe an alien'd get me in the end. Lost to a computer program?" She shakes her head.

"So I'll try to focus on the hope that they'll find a way to get us out in the end."

Whatever Spike's been doing throughout the day, he's managed to miss crossing paths with Jack until at the very end of it. He's been hanging out in Sector 0 for the last couple of hours, smoking and slowly depleting the contents of a whiskey bottle. There's a few more in a backpack next to him on the grassy patch where he's made camp, necks sticking out. A closer inspection would also reveal a few bottles of blood and as many cigarette packs as he could fit. No personal affects. This isn't his first time abruptly leaving a place.

He raises his hand when he spots Jack, pushing himself back up on his feet. There's a flicker of relief, but it disappears quickly - seeming unaffected in the face of the apocalypse is kind of what he does.

"So you found your way back here, finally."

He comes over, giving the bottles of whiskey an amused look (though he's glad to see some blood there too).

"Checking round to make sure everyone was out, seemed like the thing to do," he shrugs, and nods towards Spike's backpack. "I see you brought as much of the Blood Shack with you as you could!"

"Eh. Just raided the fridge at the apartment."

He shrugs. The Blood Shack was gone days ago and he didn't have enough foresight to pick it clean - had other things on his mind, to be perfectly honest.

"Hopefully we won't stay long enough for me to run out. That's one way for things to get real boring."

"Running out of blood or out of whiskey?" he asks with a grin, because both could be considered necessary in one way or another. "To be honest, though, as long as there's food around for us humans to eat, you're not going to starve either."

Even if he knows Spike would rather not feed straight from the source.

"Out of whiskey" He grins, because that is as far as he's concerned a much worse fate under the circumstances.

"I can manage without blood for awhile. Don't worry about that."

And if worse comes to worst, he has a never-ending supply standing right in front of him.

Chuck is still at the Daffodil Dive when Jack stops by. She's spent the day methodically cleaning and tidying up, as if she's closing up shop for an extended vacation. The place is spotless, chairs turned up on the tables, displays empty and washed out. As much as this place has some horrible memories - she'll never forget coming into work that day - it's perhaps the one spot in the entire prison she's come to love the most, even before she took it over.

She's hanging out by the bar when Jack comes in, the sound of the door bringing her out of all this reminiscing.

"Oh. I didn't expect to see you here."

Tidying up her bar is exactly where he expected to find Chuck, and a part of the reason he made the pilgrimage to the Dive. As hard as he's always found it to come in here since that dreadful morning, he respects that it means a lot to his sister and has come to pay homage to that.

He shrugs slightly, giving her a self-conscious grin. "Might be my last chance to revisit the place. Felt like perhaps I could lay some ghosts to rest."

"No time better than right now."

He might not get another chance. She's hoping things will be back to normal soon but it doesn't look good and for once, she'd rather err on the side of caution.

"I'd offer you a slice of pie, but for once I don't have any ready."

He smiles, shaking his head. "I don't think I could eat, anyway."

He looks about him, and draws a breath. "He's gone, you know. Tyki. It almost seems like he repented there, in the end."

She nods, solemnly. This is all so messy and she wishes she could tell Jack everything, how despite what he did Chuck could never entirely hate Tyki, how tortured he looked at the end when he came to see her, almost crumbled when faced with basic human decency. She can't, though. Not to him, not to Ianto. Not to anyone, she thinks, and maybe that's for the best. Maybe Tyki deserves to have some things private.

"I'm glad he got the chance to."
