[439] video

[The camera opens up on a dimly lit room, only the sight of a man's hands hovering over the keys of a piano. He cracks his knuckles and then his fingers glide over the keys, starting into and playing out a solid rendition of Für Elise without error. The further into the song the faster his hands move, until the end where he abruptly shuts the lid of the piano closed.

He leans down to look in the lens, offering a wide (and wicked?) grin.]
I'm up for taking some requests on what to play next.

Many would say I'm really bad at making wise decisions. [ And this is practically like taking off his flak vest, a weight he hasn't felt on his body in months now. This is probably the stupidest thing he can do, but... ]

This doesn't seem like a conversation that should be had over the network.

[Well consider himself intrigued.] Where would you like to meet?

Does Sector 0 work for you? [ Public, out in the open, but easy enough to step aside and not be quite so visible if there's need for privacy. He's not getting himself trapped, that's for sure. ]

I won't take up much of your time.

Alright. [Tyki says after a moment of contemplation.]

Now?

If you're available. [ He's already on his way. ]

That works. [But he's still suspicious of you, but he'll take your bait with interest.

He takes his time, throwing on a suit jacket before making his way to Sector 0 under the well tailored guise of his old self and looking out for Reid along the way.]

[ He's waiting by one of the picnic benches, nursing a take-away cup of coffee in an effort to seem casual and not at all scared to death. Tyki terrorised him for more or less his entire time in prison. They have history. Meeting him alone is a really really bad idea but what can he do? Without Kitty, without the Defence Force he feels like he has some level of responsibility for what happens now.

Spotting Tyki, he nods in acknowledgement, eyes looking for anything that would give away his state of mind. ]

[Tyki wanders right up close, looking Reid over the same way before casually unbuttoning his jacket and sitting down at the bench. Perhaps it's a subtle show of neutrality, as he has to then look up at Reid as he hides a yawn behind his hand.]

You wanted a word? [He asks, while taking out a cigarette.]

[ That he's sitting down is a sign Reid can only interpret as a show of peace - for now. Power by elevation isn't any great big secret and in an effort to keep this on neutral, equal ground Reid sits himself down opposite Tyki. ]

I wanted to see you. [ With his own eyes. ] It's been awhile.

It has, hasn't it. [He smiles, surveying Reid almost pointedly - before reaching inside his jacket for a pair of glasses. Maybe this is another sign of neutrality but he puts them on rather than continuing to act like shapes outside of a certain radius are anything but blurred.]

I've been missed, it seems. I had a rousing welcome back.

[ Has he ever seen Tyki in glasses? He can't remember. Certainly not enough to make this something mundane. ]

What did you expect? You made quite the impact on this place.

[ And Reid might be one of the few who remembers just how big of an impact. ]

[Maybe once, too many moons ago when they met at a card game - when Kitty was his, before she left them both.]

I'd predicted the threats, too. It's been fun.

Again, not entirely surprising. [ Though he has to wonder. ] Anyone give you actual trouble?

No, not really. A lot of empty threats, dogs barking at a knocked on door. [Nobody's come hunting.]

Kitty would've been the first on my doorstep, I'm sure. Almost miss her misguided attempts at order and justice.

I'm sure she would've. [ Short, tense, like he wouldn't have agreed with that strategy. ] She always liked to rush in without thinking about the consequences.

Tell that to my bar. [He misses that place.]

Still miss her on occasion but, ah. Did she ever know just how to piss me off.

...You and me both. [ He admits, quietly, not sure why he feels the need to tell Tyki this but he if anyone would get it. Kitty could be wonderful, or wonderfully frustrating and the last few months she seemed to be stuck in the latter. ]

This is depressing, talking about a girl you may or may not have loved. [He had. Did you know that?]

If I were my old self I would've killed her had I seen her, so perhaps it's best she's not here. [He's not sure how he would've reacted if she'd been here with him as he is, too.]

[ The jury's still out on that one. He suspects, maybe, but Tyki's always been notoriously hard to read and Kitty was always a factor that muddied the waters. ]

...I did. Loved her, I mean. For awhile.

[Does he have to admit it? With souring plans for his extended stay here, there seems no harm in doing so.

Plus, the good Doctor doesn't seem like a gossip.]
I would've loved her easier had she given me any reason to trust her.

[ He nods in agreement - can't help it really. Tyki's right and if they don't hash this out now, they never will. Might as well put the cards on the table. ]

You know... I always thought that her not cutting off contact with you was one of those things that made it hard to be together. There was always- stress. [ Of not knowing if she was done with Tyki or not, and even more so of not knowing if she understood how stressful it was that she carried on like everything was fine. ]

She did it again, you know. Two weeks after we broke up, she was banded with someone else.

[He laughs, rather honestly, because he's somewhat not surprised. It's almost as if she didn't know how to accept being alone.] And I caught her in mourning of her marriage.

Seems she had a habit of keeping her partners unsettled then moving on to the next when it didn't go great. Can't say I didn't take negatively to that. [His eyes flick sidelong to Reid and you know, there's something of a look going on. Remorse? An apologetic tilt of his head.]

[ That's a good take on it. He has a sneaking suspicion that was one of the nails in the coffin of their relationship — him needing space and Kitty being completely unable to be alone with herself, no matter how many friends she made. ]

Sometimes... sometimes I wonder how things would've gone if she hadn't been here. She had such a huge impact on the prison, on everyone... she was one of the first people I talked to.

[ And without her to push him along, maybe things wouldn't have gone so fast. She allowed him to be bold, but that's not always a good thing to be. ]
