[439] video

[The camera opens up on a dimly lit room, only the sight of a man's hands hovering over the keys of a piano. He cracks his knuckles and then his fingers glide over the keys, starting into and playing out a solid rendition of Für Elise without error. The further into the song the faster his hands move, until the end where he abruptly shuts the lid of the piano closed.

He leans down to look in the lens, offering a wide (and wicked?) grin.]
I'm up for taking some requests on what to play next.

[Of course he reacts. He shouldn't, but how can he not. He knows who it it the minute the camera clicks on. He's familiar enough with those hands and what they can do to recognize them anywhere. It's useless telling himself he's safe, that they know he's returned, that he has Jack and Spike for protection and that it's not as though Tyki has any reason to target him again. Sitting alone in the library like he is now none of that really seems to make much of a difference. He's still terrified, and tries to cling to the desperate hope that the man on his screen doesn't remember his time here, or that their attempts to take away his powers were successful. He swallows hard before speaking, not trying to keep the fear out of his voice. There doesn't seem to be much point.]

You're back.

[And like a pool of honey, all the flies are drawing in to his little entrance. Tyki takes a moment to consider his replies, especially in regard to Ianto. When you've been a Noah like he has for as long as he has, there are just some things you know. Things you sense, you pick up on and pull out like a loose thread. The sound of fear in a man's voice is one of them, something acidic and sweet. He can close his eyes and still hear that tone of voice, still feel the resistance of flesh as it tears. The hot run of blood across his palms...

He abruptly lifts the lid, playing with the keys absently.]
So it would seem. Good evening, Ianto. I trust you're well?

[He feels sick, stupid for even beginning this conversation and yet at the same time it's inevitable. Why avoid him? This place is too small for their paths to never cross. There is place is too small to avoid each their. Better just to get this over with even if he feels like there isn't much more to say. At the same time there's no point in dodging his question. There's an odd sort of transparency here. No need to be polite or indirect with someone who took you apart piece by piece. He can ask what he wants.]

Am I safe from you?

That's a pretty open ended question. [Tyki muses, fingers floating over keys.]

Is anyone truly safe from death and harm? Could I harm you if I wanted? Would people put themselves between you, protect you like a child? Could you defend yourself this time? So many questions, so many reasons I can't even begin to answer that for you. A man can kill a man, there's no safety in life. That's why it's called life, an opposite to death.

Two states of being. Natural order? Balance... [A little manic, he pauses in what becomes something of a rambling monologue.] A better question would be: Do I want to come after you?

[He wishes he could say he's forgotten how much Tyki liked to talk but of course he hasn't. He hasn't forgotten a single thing about him. He talked a lot that night, too.]

Do you want to come after me?

To be fair, someone I've killed has never risen from the dead. Never had that second opportunity for a redo. [Allen doesn't count because Tyki didn't ensure he died, like he should've. It was a mistake at the time, the only kill he left unfinished. Ianto is a different story, someone whose blood he saw run cold.]

You weren't picked for a reason - there are others I would more sooner kill instead.

[He knows there wasn't a reason. He knows it was random. Not that it helps. You'd think the longer this conversation goes on the more he'd relax but that isn't the case. That fear is still very much present. It's never going to leave where Tyki's concerned. He wishes someone else were here with him for his. Spike or Jack or anyone else, really. Talking to him alone makes him feel isolated all over again, like he was that night and for the days that followed when he had to disconnect to live with how much everything hurt.]

Please don't hurt anyone else here.

[Tyki has to take a pause to suck in the feeling of pity that courses through him, the conflict in him that still remains. He hates being pleaded with, being begged - too many men have done this, only a few proving their worth enough but in the end he killed them too. He's already this far into the conversation that he laughs, crisp and clear.]

Or what? [What can you threaten him with, what can you promise? There's nothing here he wants anymore. Why you folk still try, he's not sure.] Fear me if it pleases you, fear for the lives of others too - I'm not about to reassure you. No promises. Life doesn't give you any promises, it allows you no safety. Only the illusion.

[Or what nothing. They both know how completely powerless he is here. He isn't in a position to beg or plead or even hope things will be alright. If Tyki wants to harm someone else he will and that's the end of it. There's nothing Ianto could ever do to stop him. There's nothing he can even say to that response. They both know every word out of Tyki's lips is the truth.

He looks like he's considering a response for a minute and then abruptly changes his mind, switching off the camera and ending the conversation. There's nothing more to say here.]

Have a nice day. [He says with amusement when he's hung up on, carrying on to play a tune to say goodbye.]
