Closer to 9 or 10 PM

[With the exception of Jack, Martha hadn't talked to many people about this. Things had been weird between her and Gaeta in the end. They had talked about becoming closer and then never had. It seemed to happen a lot when she tried to get closer to people here. It was enough to give her pause before calling Reid. She considered a moment before scrolling to his name and dialing.]

Remember when you said maybe I should talk more instead of holding things in? I'm holding things in and I suspect you're holding things in. And maybe we should... hold things in or try to let them out together.

Okay, so Martha's the second one to call him out specifically but that's still more than he expected and it makes him wonder if he should feel worse about Kitty disappearing than he does. It's complicated. Hashing it out with someone who wasn't so close to Kitty might help. ]

Sure... that sounds like a pretty good idea. Want to meet up someplace for, uh... coffee or something? [ It's too late in the day for coffee, isn't it. ]

[Funny enough, here it's more apparent than back home. The Doctor never stayed places long. But here, there seemed to be a core of people who just... were.

She took a sip of coffee as he continued on, pausing and raising an eyebrow when he trailed off.]

Hasn't sunk in is a distinct possibility. What's the possibility for 'or'?

[She could come up with a phrase or two to finish that sentence, but she didn't want to put words in his mouth.]

Or we really had drifted so far apart in the end that I'm never going to feel sad about her being gone.

[ Relieved, more like it, which feels petty or even downright awful. There was a lot of endless drama and after that failed conversation with Chekov Reid felt more than ever that they were done for good. No chance of friendship. Even less so after she disbanded the Defence Force days after he brought her some complaints and suggestions, ways to make it better. ]

[ There's a pause here, because he actually has to take a moment to think about it, dig through all the endless fighting and misunderstandings and downright betrayals of her cheating-without-cheating or spilling his status as a drug addict to the dome at large behind his back. There's a lot of resentment at this point, which makes it even harder to handle the people calling him today.

At least Martha seems to get it. ]

...She saw me. Not a lot of people did. I don't know why, but she wanted to spend time with me, get to know me. Before that, I uh. I hadn't had a girlfriend? Not even close.

[ Yeah, he noticed that. It's kind of nice, knowing he's not the only one who gets hooked on something so simple. ]

Until I disappeared. Coming back... a lot happened back home. I was gone for a year and a half. [ Emily coming back, JJ getting married, Maeve. A lot. ] I don't think either of us handled it as well as we could've, but... I started to notice things. I'd ask for time and space and she'd agree and then not follow through. I started to realise that a lot of things, ever since the beginning... it had been on her terms.

[Martha knows the end of a conversation when she hears one, and so she nods and takes a sip of coffee. When he asks her about her own issues, she sighs.]

I'm not even sure. Felix Gaeta seems to be gone, and as I was trying to explain to Jack earlier, we had such a weird relationship? friendship? we had such a weird something that I feel like it's not supposed to hurt as much as it does?
