Day 420 / Action / Closed to Ianto
He's digested a lot of advice over his and Ianto's relationship problems and the chief idea seems to be to spend some quality time with Ianto in a public place to try and avoid sex getting in the way of actually talking to each other.

So on this particular day, in a vein rather similar and yet surprisingly a lot less kinky than when Ianto invited him to the library, Ianto will find a little note waiting for him when he gets back from the library at the end of the day: The Bistro - 8pm

When Ianto gets there, he'll find an unexpectedly nervous Jack seated ready at a table, dressed in his usual outfit but it's all impeccably pressed (i.e. brought home brand new from the store), and he's even been over to the Sector 3 salon for a hair cut and style and the closest shave it's possible to get.

The lighting in the restaurant is all turned down low except for a pool of light illuminating Jack's table, which is also sporting a wine cooler with a bottle of champagne waiting to be popped, and there's soft, classical music playing in the background to add to the ambiance.

"I can't answer that with any certainty, I know you two have a very different dynamic." True, this is all normal differ conversation with him, isn't it? He won't pretend he hasn't grown to love it over the years. "I don't know if he'll say yes, but I do think you can get away with asking."

He chuckles. "Oh well, in that case I might have to try it! I'm not in any real hurry, but if it's something else he might enjoy..."

He glances round as a bot comes over to clear their plates, and uses the break to top up both their champagne glasses.

And, in the interests of trying not to prove that sex isn't the only thing he can ever talk about, he asks, "So, do you have any plans for filling the gap left by the dissolution of the Defence Force yourself? Beyond having more time to bonk Spike, of course!"

Okay, so still not managing entirely to keep sex out of the conversation...

"I intend to divide my time equally between the two of you, thank you." A dry smile although it's true he could probably use some new hobbies.

"I don't quite know what I'll do with myself. I suppose I'll still try to keep records of new arrivals and events here to try and uncover any patterns. It's something at least." He doesn't want to admit it but the Defense Force meant a lot to him, particularly being trusted to run a section of it. It's the first time anyone has given him any sort of leadership responsibility and he's embarrassed by how much it meant to him.

He grins at the first part. He strongly suspects Ianto actually has a spreadsheet somewhere with a log of exactly how much time he's spent with each of them, to make sure it's absolutely fair!

"Records of events sounds very useful, especially now the Defence Force is no longer doing it officially. Someone needs to keep track of these things. I mean, even though the Investigative Team is gone, we still need to investigate things!"

There is an incredibly detailed spreadsheet in his diary, it's true. He more or less expects Jack to snoop on it since the whole diary concept has never stopped him in the past. Sometimes he peppers in particularly sarcastic comments for his benefit.

"It might be better if it's just the two of us in any case. I suspect that will simplify things a great deal." That was always one of the problems with the Defense Force after all. No real command structure. It might be better to keep it just as Torchwood for now.

He hasn't actually peeked at the diary for a while, though admittedly it's probably mostly because there's been so much drama lately he hasn't had time to think about it! The spreadsheet will certainly get an amused chuckle when he finds it, though.

"Perhaps," he says, rather doubtfully. "I think we really need some other people as well - people who are a bit more invested in actually getting out of here. Or even just people with a different viewpoint, who can come at things from a different angle, see things we haven't thought of before."

He will have to start adding more detail to the accounts of his sexual exploits to lure him in then. It gives him an excuse to pretend to be annoyed when he catches him reading it and it never hurts to have Jack feel like he needs to make something up to him.

"It's not a bad idea. Maybe nothing as formal as he Defense Force, just some sort of system where people who might be interestied in gathering information can do so." It might not generate as much ill will as the Force did, either.

He is an evil, scheming man.

"Yeah, especially because the first thing new people always ask is why haven't we got got out of here yet. They're the people we need to have on board."

He quirks an eyebrow. "I guess there's your project, to keep you busy. You were heading up the Investigative Team - why don't you head up that too?"

Isn't that what Jack loves about him?

The suggestion actually catches him a bit off guard. He's so used to Jack taking charge, and his surprise has nothing to do with what he said days ago about him always acting like his boss. Jack is simply a more natural leader than he is. "I don't know how good I'd be at it to be honest. Perhaps we could work together on it?"

Actually, he doesn't want to admit how nice the idea of doing something as a team sounds.

Well. One of the things, perhaps!

In a way, Jack's still leading with this suggestion - it could be construed more as delegating a task, but he is also suggesting Ianto take charge of this.

He grins, though, at the way Ianto immediately turns it back on him, and grins more at the actual suggestion. "Perhaps we could. After all, we're never really going to stop investigating, are we? Just like the demise of the Defence Force doesn't mean we're going to stop throwing ourselves at any threat that occurs!"

It feels good to have it be just the two of them again, even if he knows it's an effort that will grow. They work together well on this sort of thing, they always have. So he smiles and clinks their glasses of champagne together in approval. "An underwater version of Torchwood. I like the sound of it."

"Torchwood under the sea," he agrees, and clinks and drinks too, grinning.

((OOC: Leave it there, to make way for newer threads? Unless there's anything else you want to cover?))
