Day 419 - video - open
Hey... I have a question.

Is it normal for people to show up from the same universe but different points in time in that universe?

I think it might have just happened.

Live becomes very strange once you leave your home planet.

[Keith was a recent arrival to the idea of outerspace and the idea that there was way more out there than they realized.]

Was it better there or worse, would you say?

Does that mean that you leave your home planet often?

[Talk to him about space travel, it's his favorite!]

Not better or worse. Both are prisons and both have good and bad qualities. I would much prefer home to either.

Yeah... home would be nice.

[He could agree with Chekov on that one.]

Well, not so much that we leave it often, but more like we left it once in something of a crisis and haven't gone back.

[Keith didn't regret the decision, but he did sometimes wonder if the others felt homesick. He really didn't feel like he had much to go back to Earth for, but he knew Hunk and Lance had families to go back to, and he was sure Pidge would want to go home once she found her father and brother, so it would probably be nice to get back there at some point.

And it would be familiar, which was something he could actually appreciate. Familiar food, familiar surroundings, being able to read the signage, telling time in units he recognized... He was slowly getting used to things as they were now, but he understood missing something he knew.]

Ah. [This is one of those situations where Chekov isn't sure if it would be impolite to ask for elaboration or not. Sometimes people are vague because they don't want to share, at least not with a stranger.]

I'm sorry that you haven't had a chance to return. Even when I'm content where I am, part of me misses home.

Yeah. [Keith shrugged a little.] I mean, it's been fun, but really weird, and kind of scary all at once. But, I know a couple of my teammates really miss home.

What we're doing is important, but it would be nice to go back to something familiar.

How long were you in space?

You will all have an opportunity to return home, I'm certain.

Five years... but it has only been three since the last time I was on Earth.

We were close when I got pulled here. Well, close to being at a point with everything where thinking about it was possibility. I don't know if I'll go back just yet, but I know two of them want to.

[Keith had already decided he was going to go looking for Shiro, see if he could locate more about his mom and her family, and probably help Pidge find her father and brother. Though, if Shiro was here... he wasn't sure exactly what that meant back home right now. Going back to Earth would be nice, but it wasn't a priority for him. But, he wouldn't be angry at Lance and Hunk if they decided to go.]

Seems like a long time. Even three. How do you do it?

You have no reason to want to return? [a beat] No, there's no need to answer that. It was much too personal.

[It seems like they're in similar situations--away from home on a mission with a close-knit team. It's easy to overstep boundaries.]

I was doing what I have wanted to do since I was very young, and my ship is home as much as Russia is. Being here is much more difficult.

[Keith just shrugged at Chekov's apology.] It's not really a big deal. I don't really have anything to go back to. Not like the others do. [Beyond that, he'd never really thought about it.]

I guess that makes a difference. We left because a destructive alien race was probably going to destroy Earth to steal the weapon we'd found hidden there. So, we took the weapon and ran, hoping they'd follow us and leave Earth alone. So far, we think it's worked, but we don't want to risk going back, yet. If Earth is safe right now, then going back could potentially mess that up.

[Though, if it wasn't, then things could be a lot worse already, and Keith had considered that. But, they weren't in a position to mount an all out attack like that, so it was better to wait until they were stronger, and had all the Paladins back.]
