Day 407 / Action / Open and closed
Action – closed to Ianto

He's finishing getting dressed and bending to get his boots out of the wardrobe, when the sight of something at the back of the wardrobe, sitting innocuously right behind his boots where he'd swear it wasn't yesterday, gives him pause. A box. A box he had for decades. A box which couldn't possibly be here if this existence wasn't virtual and/or outside of time.

Hardly breathing, he scoops it up and takes it through to Ianto, who's already in the kitchen, getting coffee.

"Hey. Look what I found!"

Action – open

Jack's gift is a box of photographs of past lives and lovers, incredibly precious since it was blown up along with him and the rest of the Hub over a year ago and (in real life, at least) lost forever.

Find him sifting through the photos, or just gazing fondly at one of them, at various points through the day – at the Defence Force HQ, in a restaurant at lunchtime or dinner time, wandering along with a coffee in his hand etc. etc. etc.

((OOC: NSFW content in the thread with Ianto (surprise surprise)! ))

Yeah, Jack was aware of some of the Doctor's granddaughter stuff. Everything that was on file at UNIT, at least, plus a few things he'd been able to glean via other means. Enough to be aware that the Doctor was no better at parenting than he was.

"You were adorable," he said, grinning a bit at the memory. He'd deliberately avoided actually speaking to any of the Doctor's former incarnations, but he'd managed to watch him sometimes from a distance, in various regenerations.

He quirked an eyebrow at the Doctor's last comment. "What were you hoping for?" he asked, and chuckled. "They're hardly going to give you the TARDIS!"

"Ehhhh..." He's tugging at his ear lobe looking a little sheepish, "I was hoping for my screwdriver." Often the optimist, but with everyone flooding the network in excitement over their gifts, he momentarily thought he'd be ever so lucky.

"I'm glad others have gotten something precious to them. Really, I am. For many to have some happiness while being trapped, it's a nice touch." And for a dark second, the Doctor wondered if it was a precursor to anything particularly bad about to happen. Old habits die hard.

"Ah. Yeah..." He couldn't imagine how hard it must be for the Doctor without his screwdriver. At least ten times harder than it would have been for him without his wriststrap.

He tilted his head, curious. "Have you tried just asking them for it? If you had enough points, they might let you have it. I mean, they'd probably remove most of the useful functions, but it would still be better than nothing, wouldn't it?"

The Doctor mulls over his answer. Would it be better than nothing? If it wasn't fully functional, it wouldn't be very useful and pretty much all the settings had a particular purpose. He didn't have the tools to alter it himself here, unfortunately.

"Having it without its complete functions would be useless to me. As useless as nothing, really." Did that even make sense?

He scrubs at his face and slouches in his chair in a pout.

"Really? You'd rather not have it at all?" No, it didn't make sense, at least not to Jack. To a Time Lord mind, though, who knew?

He shrugged. "I guess it's all kind of pointless, really, since none of this around us actually exists anyway. I mean, even these photographs... they were destroyed when the Hub blew up. When I eventually get out of this simulation, I'll never see them again."

Well, you know, unless someone with a working time machine were to take him back to snatch them out of the Hub just in time...

The Doctor could be accommodating to that plan, certainly!

"Well that's one way to look at it." Meaning the Doctor probably should relax on his holding out for hope and stop wishing for it to happen. It wasn't going to.

He fixes himself in the chair, no longer slouching, "Give it some time, I'm still coming up with a plan, Jack."

He might hold you to that, if they ever get out of here, Doctor!

He watched the Doctor sit up again, in one of those abrupt mood changes that seemed so characteristic of every regeneration the Doctor had ever had, and couldn't help grinning. "Yeah? Well, let me know if you need any input, won't you?"
