{392} action - closed to Yuuki, Mika, and Yuu
(slightly post-dated to later afternoon)
____

[Both Yuuki and Zero hate that they have to do this, even despite knowing that it should be done now. The more they put it off, the more difficult it will become. Yuu and Mika have already begun to grow attached to them— or, rather maybe to go so far as trusting them. Granted, Zero is aware it's (likely) more so Yuu with that part, but regardless. He and Yuuki (as well as Ai) hate how they've been dancing around the subject; to a degree Zero is almost surprised that the boys haven't been able to guess when it comes to Yuuki, especially, with how her fangs are often more visible than not, and how she often smiles.

Just a bit earlier Zero had contacted Yuu to invite he and Mika over. To a degree it's with the pretenses of having lunch together; it's not a lie, seeing how there's the fixings to make sandwiches set out in the kitchen. First, though, comes the difficult part.

Zero lets the two inside once they show at the door and then gestures to the couch for them to sit. He and Yuuki will remain standing for now, and briefly does he glance to her, as if they're really ready for this, regardless of the decision they won't back down from.]

There's something we want to talk to you two about.

[Zero almost wants to stall (already), but Yuuki agreed to let him do the talking for right now. Ai and Haruka are also aware of what's going on.]

[It's only been a matter of days since they found themselves in this prison... only days since they met Zero and Yuuki... only days since they'd reunited with one another.

There's a lot for them to get used to, still. For Yuuichiro, it's waking up next to Mika -- whether it's him having crawled into the blond's bed, or vice versa. Having the other boy back in his life is both a source of happiness and a source of pain. Pain that is self-inflicted; he still blames himself for the fact that the other boy is a vampire, after all.

After a morning of being kind of... lazy, he'd found himself a little surprised at being invited over for lunch. Naturally, he doesn't think anything of it. In fact, he's eager to let Mika know, and even more eager to drag him over to their neighbor's for a meal. He'd expected that they'd get right to eating, so it's a little... surprising when Zero has them sitting on the couch. With a slight frown, he tilts his head and glances at Mika.

But, with a hand very loosely gripping Mika's sleeve, he makes his way over to sit down.
]

Oh... is that why you invited us over, then? [Aw, so they can't eat until they hear them out? Ugh. In any case, there's a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach, but he's glancing over at Mika with a small shrug, and then looking back up at Zero and Yuuki.] Okay, what is it?

[Their first two days were rough on the both of them and yesterday had been... well, the easiest. Really not enough time to process the whole situation but Mika no longer feels like he's constantly on the verge of crying all of the time. So that's progress, at least.

Neither of them are wearing the stupid orange jumpsuits anymore which definitely helps Mika not feel like livestock or just like all the other vampires they're used to. Being able to pick what he's going to wear is definitely nice. Having Yuu by his side to do such normal activities is even better. Waking up to have the other there is good too - even if Mika isn't the one who snuck into the other's bed.

He's afraid too. Afraid that one morning he's going to wake up so thirsty and Yuu will be there. So far he hasn't gone to the Blood Shack to quench that thirst but Mika knows he'll have to go and soon. It just... isn't something he wants Yuu to do with him - that's what he tells himself anyway. They'd always gone to have blood drawn together and the idea of going to get blood for himself, by himself is a little terrifying. At the same time Mika doesn't want Yuu to witness this side of him because he knows the other is blaming himself even though he shouldn't. Everything was Mika's fault.

The invite to lunch isn't that surprising to Mika, their new neighbors seem rather intent on looking after them. What he doesn't expect is for the two older teens to want to talk first. As Yuu drags him to sit on the couch, Mika's expression is one of suspicion. He's watching both of them carefully - noticing when Zero looks over at Yuuki briefly. A frown forms because nothing good comes when two "adults" say such serious things and exchange looks like that.

He doesn't say anything, letting Yuu talk for the both of them as Mika glances towards the front door and wonders how fast he can drag the other boy away should anything unpleasant start. So far they've been nothing but nice to the both of them but it isn't as they know Zero and Yuuki very well.]

[To be honest, Yuuki feels somewhat reluctant in the moment. It's not for lack of wanting to be honest, or because she thinks it's somehow amusing to keep the children in the dark. But she has to question how much good it might do in the moment. One of the most difficult things she's experienced is the frustration of being left in the dark.

But that is different from this.

Neither are looking for a past that by rights should be theirs. Neither are they related to the events of her own world. What they have are two children who have been hurt in the past, and she knows that by revealing what they plan to right now, will hurt them more.

The question isn't really about honesty. So much as how right or wrong is it to deceive them, knowing that the children assume them to be human.

While Zero stands, she wonders if it wouldn't be less intimidating for them to sit or be moreso at eye level. Hands folded, she tries to smile reassuringly at them, but isn't sure how they'll take what's to come. At the least... she hopes, that in Zero's case, Yuu will be able to see the connection they share.

Even if she may be what is the most frightening of all.]

We'll still have lunch.

[Zero starts with, as if to lighten the situation. Although he imagines none of them will feel like eating after all of what comes first.

The tension within the room only hangs more heavily by the moment, and every second where he puts off speaking. It's almost enough to make him feel ill. He's sure that Yuuki shares that as well. Maybe even more than he does, because why shouldn't she? At least he has a reason that may be not as much of a blow as it could be. However there are no pretenses when it comes to Ai and Haruka.

In retrospect he feels that maybe he and Yuuki should be sitting.

For as honest, and even more so blunt as he is, Zero is finding it difficult to choose on a starting point.]

There's something we've been keeping from you. Something you deserve to know now, instead of us putting it off.

[A neutral beginning. Good. He manages to keep eye contact with them for now. However one of his hands balls into a fist, not as tight as it may grow to be.]

. . .I'm like you, Mika. My home was attacked by an especially vicious vampire. I was bitten and laid helpless as she slaughtered my family right before my eyes. When she left, my brother had gone with her.

[He adds in the latter more so because it's something of an automatic when speaking about what happened that night.]

I know what you're going through. I was thirteen when that happened.

Although, Yuuki, Ai, and Haruka. . .

[He stalls again. Maybe Yuuki should take that part.]

Hate us if you need to. Run away. Be scared.

[This time his fist does tighten, and his gaze shifts away, bangs falling over his eyes. It's more than clear (once more) that he hates having to do this.]

We'll understand if you do.

[-something we've been keeping from you. Just like that, he's tensing a little more. Bracing himself, as though he can possibly imagine what's about to be said next. Maybe it will make it easier to take it -- whatever it is. Only...

Suddenly, he can't seem to take in the next breath without thinking hard about it. It's almost like someone's squeezing his chest real tightly, forcing him to remain still. Perfectly still, unmoving, not even taking those words in their entirety. The rest of the room fades away for just a split second -- Mika, Zero, Yuuki... It's only them, nothing else. A tense air hangs around them, and he's left staring at Zero as though he's speaking in another language for a moment. Until...

Mika.

It's like the words are finally clicking into place. Finally working their way through the fog, and he's turning his head, looking at the blond with somewhat widened eyes. So, Zero... felt pain kind of like Mika's. But, then... if Zero was stabbed and bitten... that makes him...
]

H...eh... What are you... saying? [But, then it's like a switch has been flipped, the second he hears the last three sentences. Did he just tell them to run away? Be scared?] You lie to us... hide the truth... You're just like-... Is this how all adults work?! They think they can keep the truth from us until it's convenient to talk about?!

[Really, he's barely thinking about what's coming out of his mouth. It's not until after that, however, he does think about something. A bitter, trembling smile appears as he opens his mouth to speak the next thing:] ... I knew you were too good to be true. What were you planning to do, huh? Get us to trust you, just so you could use us for blood, too?

[But the second the last sentence escapes, so do the tears -- bitter, angry tears that might make it clear he doesn't... truly feel that way about them, at all. This hurts. Not as much as learning that Mika's a vampire, but... close enough to have it feeling like his chest is being stabbed with a dull knife.

Without thinking, he's rushing forward, fists raised and aiming to slam into Zero's midsection the second he's close enough.
] Don't you dare tell me to run away, damn you! I'm not scared of you! But, don't you ever lie to us, ever again! I thought we were-...gonna be... family...

[With that, he's just going to continue crying, head lowered.]

[Mika tries to not let himself get caught up in the first part of Zero's words - before the confession even comes. Because he has to take it all in. Can't feel betrayed by a pair of people who's he only just met because somewhere inside of him... he expected this. Everyone he's ever cared for has either died or did something horrible to him before they died. Only Yuu is the exception, as he always is.

Truthfully he couldn't care less about a vampire's existence. He doesn't hate them like Yuu does and he certainly isn't going to go out of his way to protect one. There's just indifference when it comes to having feelings towards vampires.

It is terrible that Zero lost his parents to a vampire, that one had fed from him... that he'd become like Mika is now. Mika doesn't even care what Yuuki and her family are.

What does matter is how Yuu is feeling. He's confused at first, angry and upset - understandably. Betrayed and Mika doesn't try to stop the younger boy when he moves to hit Zero. It is surprising to hear that Yuu thought they were going to be family and that... hurts.

When they first met it took the other boy four years and the deaths of the other kids for him to say they were family out loud. His head dips until his face is shadowed by his hair.

One hand reaches out to grab the back of Yuu's shirt and haul him back with his new vampire strength - away from Zero and Yuuki, closer to him. It's only when the other boy is by his side does Mika speak up, getting to his feet as he does so.]

I told you. I told you not to hurt Yuu-chan! [He glares up at Zero, absolutely no tears here for this boy. Just protective anger.

This time Mika's the one moving forward with a speed he's never used before, aiming a fist towards the hunter's stomach preparing to use a strength he's never fully tapped into.]

[It hurts. There's no way around how much it hurts to see the betrayal and anguish in their eyes. But where Yuu is an open book, his devastation and anger written across his face in plain words, turning her attention toward Mika offers something else. He's not happy, clearly, but it's quiet, muted in response.

But their emotions play out so fast, and there's little to no time for her to explain herself, or say much at all. While Yuu pounds upon his chest, she doesn't move- knowing that it doesn't hurt him much. But it's the speed and force behind Mika that does.

Sliding in front of Zero before it can find home, the blow hits hard, and she feels herself pushed back by the force, and pinned against the hunter behind her. She winches, her face twisting in a moment of pain. But while it hurts, it hardly lingers, only the memory of such actions lasting on.]

Zero is... not someone who I can allow to be hit.

[Not when his life has been affected by these very types of things so often. He isn't to blame, and if someone is to blame for wanting the secrets kept between them all, she feels its her.]

I'm sorry Mika, Yuu... [Her eyes lift to the blond, apology and hurt written across her face, before it shifts to the other boy. The last she had wanted to do was hurt them. They've already been through so much.]

You were both so frightened the first day. Frightened at first about Zero being a hunter, and then also frightened and upset about vampires. We didn't want to scare or alarm you more.

[They would never have felt comfortable enough to settle, even a little bit.]

Both of you only deserve happiness. We're telling you now, because we don't want you to grow closer to us, and to feel even more deceived if you find out later. [And it's clear they're already both so hurt.]

No one in this house would ever seek to hurt or harm either of you. And we'd like to continue to be there if you'd let us. But we wont keep you here, or force our presence upon you, either, if it only hurts and upsets you.

[He knew this was going to be the reaction. Maybe even down to the waver of Yuu's voice and the strained rage within every word. It's a different sort of anger than how Mika's was cold and sharp.

For the moment his attention catches on something a little different, however. Building up their trust so they could use them for blood. . .? Wherever Yuu and Mika were raised only further sickens him (and Yuuki, alike).]

We've never once consumed human blood.

[The tablets don't count. Even Zero, himself, hasn't. He drank Yuuki's blood earlier on, but technically she's always been a vampire. . .But that isn't what matters right now. It does hurt, but that, too, isn't something that he and Yuuki have the right at this moment.

What also gets him is the way Yuu mentioned that he had begun (so soon) to feel that they even were going to be like a family. Which he naturally would have accepted— maybe especially so after Ren have come and gone so quickly.

He also could have seen the way Yuu came at him, fists pounding against his chest. And he let it. He braced himself for Mika's blow as well, but just at the last moment did Yuuki interfere. ]

Yuukii—

[While a little tempted, Zero doesn't catch Mika's wrist just as quick as the boy had moved. Instead he tugs her to the side again, as if to tell her in silence to stop. This is not her fault.]

It's as she says, though. We didn't know how to bring that up when you first arrived. Not with how worried and scared you were. It wouldn't have helped. But we couldn't let it go on and on without you learning the truth.

[. . .it wouldn't have mattered though, would it? Maybe it would have made things easier, then again, maybe not.

A bit more quieted, then.]

There were a reason why I mentioned a few times about how our world isn't simply black and white. . . and of how there are vampires who only want to live quietly. None of how we - nor Ai or Haruka - have been acting towards and treating you so far has been a lie. Not even a moment of it. The only thing we want from you is that you find some kind of peace, here. It doesn't need to involve us at all.

[When his back hits the couch, he releases a loud "oof!" before glaring at the one who threw him -- Mika. Guess... he shouldn't be surprised he was able to do that so easily, considering what he now is, but... for a moment, he'd been shocked. And for that moment, he can only stare as the blond begins lashing out at Zero.]

...Mik-

[He's hitting Yuuki. With a small grunt, he hurriedly moves to stand and rush forward, not even hesitating before throwing his arms around his friend. He attempts to pull him back, in spite of being... well... the weakest person in the room, in terms of physical strength.] Mika, wait! It's fine -- I'm fine! Just stop, okay?!

[All this because he'd cried...? What the hell, Mika?! Yuuichiro's burying his face in the blond's shoulder for a moment, though his ears are still taking in Zero's words. Those words... as much as he can't begin to know what Zero and Yuuki's world is like, he... almost wishes that he and his family had been born there. Is it really possible that there's a world where vampires aren't like the ones that they've known?

But... he can't say that he really cares about the vampires on Zero and Yuuki's world. He doesn't know them at all. But he does know that the two standing in front of them right now have been nothing but good to them, even if they did hide something from them. They took them in, fed them, even... offered to teach them and help them grow. They've done more for them in a matter of days, than...

...even their own parents did in a matter of years.
]

... Mika, I feel like they're... telling the truth... [His voice is quiet, almost as though he's trying to prevent the pair from listening. Though, they likely hear his words. His next words are directed at Zero and Yuuki. It's something he'd wanted to ask on the first day, but never really got around to it. Now it feels even more significant.] Why do you... care so much about our happiness, anyway?

[The hit that had been meant for Zero is taken by Yuuki and there's nothing Mika can do to take it back. He hadn't wanted to hit her - but he'd warned the hunter not to hurt Yuu. That was the only reason Mika had to strike out at anyone. Yuu was his reason for living, he didn't have another goal like the other boy.

By the time Yuu grabs him, Mika is completely compliant... though more like putty in the other boy's arms. He stumbles back when Yuu pulls on him allowing himself to be moved away from the two teens but the glare is still fixed on Zero for a moment longer. It's only when Yuu's head is buried in his shoulder does he heave a sigh and lift a hand to ruffle the dark hair. A sign that he's okay now, he won't try to hit anyone else.

He knows Yuu was hurt by the confession and knows it wasn't as big a betrayal as it could have been but Mika can't help but feel protective of the other boy. Since they first met he was the older one, the one who kept Yuu out of trouble and welcomed him to their little family made up of orphans, he'd nearly given his life to make sure Yuu was safe. Was it really a surprise that he would also be protective of the boy's feelings as well? Especially after all they'd been through.

There are so many things he doesn't know about this world... about any of the worlds other people come from. Mika has to be more cautious. Not being cautious enough had cost him the lives of thirteen of their siblings and he wouldn't make the same mistake again. And that had been in a world where they'd grown up, where he'd known what the vampires were like.]

I don't care what they are. [And he honestly doesn't. They could be the nicest humans in the world and Mika still wouldn't allow them to betray Yuu.] All that mattered is that they were keeping it from us.

[A small shrug of his shoulders. Now that the truth is out there it's not a big deal.] We probably would've taken it badly if you'd told us when we first got here. [They were both extremely vulnerable.] And it would've been worse if you'd waited too long to tell us. You've been nicer to us than anyone ever has but we're not gonna be around you if you keep things like that from us anymore.

[Mika's not asking for their life story here and now but them being vampires is kind of important. Life-changing important information that they absolutely need to know sooner rather than later.]

[Tugged back to Zero's side, she's still a little tense, her heart in her throat as the children speak. But Mika makes no movement forward again, and instead Yuu holds him. That atmosphere, while still charged with emotion, seems to have calmed, even if only a little bit. Which is good. It's a start, which is more than they can ask for. Settling back upon her feet, she nods, finding and meeting Mika's gaze. Whatever their decision she can respect. But she'd like for the rest of their talk to go smoother.]

We understand that. [The request is more than fair, and she doesn't think there is anyone in the household would disagree with such a thing. Now that what they are is in the open, there's no reason for them to hold back.]

That's why, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them. I don't want you to have to doubt us. For me, it's been a happy experience getting to spend time with both of you, and I'd like that to continue in the future. [Truly her heart goes out to them and all they've been through. It's sad, but...from all she's heard, this place surely is a safer environment for them, no matter that they've all been kidnapped. For the time they spend here, she wants them to at least feel as though they can relax, even just a little bit.]

[It hurts both he and Yuuki much in the same way. (You've been nicer to us than anyone ever has.)— he can't even begin to imagine all of what they've possibly been through. It can't be strictly from what Yuu has already told him about in regards to his family, or what Mika was put through, as well.

He's glad, though. Also like Yuuki. Now that the information has been let out, there's less tension in the air. However he doesn't fully expect for the boys to simply return to how things were on the day they arrived.]

Why do we care so much. . .?

[Zero slightly frowns as he considers the question. Maybe there isn't much of a reason at all.]

Kids should be able to be kids. You deserve to be happy, to be cared for, and treated kindly. [he pauses again in simply recalling the past.] Or maybe, for me, I've been thinking a lot of my brother around your age and earlier on. And that I've been thinking of when I was that age as well.

[There's so much that Ichiru had gone through. Yet altogether, there's no way to compare the life his twin had, and that with Yuu and Mika have experienced.

He lets out a silent breath.]

It's just as Yuuki says, though. Ask us anything at all that you want to know, be it now, or whatever may come to mind at any point. We promise to give you nothing but the truth.

[His expression softens a little when he feels the hand in his hair. After a short pause, he lifts his head and moves to stand next to the blond. He's glancing at Zero and Yuuki for a moment, and then back at Mika. One hand lifts to return the hair ruffling, and he manages a small smile. It's his attempt at maybe making his friend feel a little better. Though, he is fully aware that it will take way more than that for them to come back from everything... They still haven't even recovered from losing their family, after all.]

Your brother? We... remind you of him?

[Ask them anything, huh? Well, this kid certainly doesn't have a problem with that; he has a list of questions, now. It's as his hand is dropping to his side, he takes one step in Zero's direction.] When we first met, you said you were a hunter. How is it possible to be both? And... did you refuse to give us a list of the vampires in this place because you're vampires? Or... is it because you're the only vampires?

[Basically: "Are there actually other vampires here, or not?"

He narrows his eyes for a moment, brow knit together. For a moment, he's looking at Yuuki... then back to Zero.
] How do you deal with the need for blood? You said neither of you have had human blood... Do you only drink the blood of other vampires, then?

[If it weren't for Yuu, Mika would probably walk away without asking anything. Just because he doesn't care they're vampires, doesn't mean he wants to be near them at the moment. He needs time to process the whole situation before really making a decision because Mika got close to one vampire already and it had ripped their family apart. Literally.

But since it seems as though Yuu isn't going anywhere just yet, he flops back on the couch - propping an elbow on the arm and then placing his chin in his hand. Mika doesn't look at either one of the "adults" in the room and leaves Yuu to ask all of the questions he knows is burning inside the other boy.

Zero has already offered to help with anything and Mika has pretty much turned him down already. He's standing by that at the moment but he does have one single question that he simply can't pass up.]

[For a great number of the questions, there's little she can offer in way of explanation. Clearly the question in regards to Ichiru's brother is only something that Zero can answer himself. However... ]

I would say that you each are more similar to Zero than the opposite.

[Very much so. Ichiru, despite all his flaws, has never shown very much hatred toward vampires in general.]

I can't answer much for Zero and his brother. [She'll leave that to him, and rightfully so.] But I can tell you more about vampires within our world.

[After all, she very much understands the needs and desires of a vampire herself.]

We aren't the only vampires within this place. But we are in the majority, and recently outside of ourselves, numbers have dwindled. There are certainly more humans than vampires, but we aren't the only supernatural creatures.

[Demons and other supernatural beings have and do inhabit the dome. She pauses, looking back and forth between the boys before continuing on]

In our world, there are different types of vampires but in general our consumption and need for blood is the same, with a few exceptions. Blood tablets are widely used, and while I don't find them very sating, they help curb the thirst we experience for blood.

[They certainly aren't a cure, but in a pinch can be useful, even if she finds them unpleasant.]

If done with consent a vampire can feed from a human, which may be done among most the vampires classes. But most humans are not aware of the existence of vampires, so it is also considered a little taboo. [Well... more likely, vampires that drink from humans erase their memories after.]

More often, the most sating blood that one can drink is from their significant other, friends, or family. So I tend to believe that it is more likely that vampires drink from other vampires. That's the case for all of us within this house. And for my father, myself, and Ai, our fangs are poisonous, so we would be unable to drink from anyone other than another vampire without various consequences.

[The pureblood certainly have various difficulties when it comes to such. She glances to Zero...]

Your other questions though, I can't really answer for him...

It's all as she says. And yes, we don't need to necessarily consume human blood if we don't want to- if we have family or close friends who are also vampires.

[He'll start with. It's easier; they're straight up facts, and nothing (ultimately) directly having to do with either of their personal lives or what kinds of opinions they have. Mostly.

For the record, too, as he imagines either of the two asking about Yuuki's remark about her family's fangs, he'll explain further-]

There are different classes that a vampire falls upon in our world; it's like a pyramid scale. The higher the level, the less human blood the vampire has in their lineage. Which also dictates just how powerful they are. At the very bottom are Level D's, who are ex-humans. Level C are the common vampires, which make up a fair amount of society. Level B's are the noble class. They typically have a particular ability in addition to the usual heightened senses, inhuman speed and strength, accelerated healing, and long lifespans. Some of the nobles Yuuki and I know have such skills as ice and fire manipulation, creating illusions, and manipulating their blood to use as a weapon.

Level A's are the purebloods. They're at the very tip of the scale, and while they make up the least number vampire society, they're by far the most powerful out of them all. It wouldn't be far off to consider them godlike. [He glances to Yuuki for a moment.] That's the kind of vampire that Yuuki, Ai, and Haruka are. Purebloods have not even a drop of human blood within their lineage. They also live the longest- even well into the thousands. They're the only vampire capable who can turn a human.

Technically there is also another part to different classes, but it's lower than a Level D. It's the Level E- or the End Level. If a human who doesn't drink the blood of the pureblood who bit them, thus completing the process, the individual will eventually drop to this level. These vampires lose their sense of self and attack indiscriminately. They aren't meant to exist. That. . . is something that should have happened with me. But for a couple of reasons it didn't.

[Looking to Yuu, then.]

In our world, to be a hunter is something one is born into. It's not like following in the footsteps of those before you, but an actual bloodline. Hunters are not one-hundred percent human, but instead have traces of vampire DNA within them. This grants them extra strength that allows them to level the battleground a bit more. We also possess special weapons which aren't capable of harming humans. Like the gun I used, which I told you about.

As for me. . . I was born into that lineage. I was raised and trained as such. I identify as a hunter even now, despite how I also acknowledge being a vampire, and have also accepted it. [just a faint smile, although not especially amused] Actually, I'm in line to be the president of the Hunters' Association. Plenty of them don't like the idea in the slightest that I'm also a vampire. It's completely unprecedented.

[He stalls, however, in regards to Ichiru. His attention shifts to Mika.]

. . .You're right about Ichiru. Twins are a curse among hunters. If they're conceived, the outcome is always one of two: either both are stillborn, or one of them absorbs the strength of the other while still in the womb, resulting in the birth of only one. I was that one, yet my brother was born, anyway. [one of his hands balls into a fist.] He was chronically weak, and deemed unfit to be a hunter. He consistently would tell me that he wished he had been born as a part of me, or ask why he had to be the way he was. Ichiru, he. . . at some point, a darkness began to spread through his heart. There's a much longer story behind it, but, yes. He had a direct hand in both the death of out parents, and me being bitten and turned by the pureblood whom he fled with afterwards. Yet, the first time I saw him after four years, he had been cured of his weaknesses and ailments because of that woman.
