Day 390| Open Action
[Waking up in a strange place was bad enough but without Ai's presence he felt nothing but worry. He could smell her somewhere, like something sweet that drew one to it. There were other smells - human and vampire alike. It was almost overwhelming, were he not so focused on Ai and only Ai.

As he wandered towards her scent he began to distinguish others, making him stop in surprise. He could smell his mother - that soft smell of sunlight that had always been hers - and his father. It made him press the back of his hand to his mouth as he tried to calm himself. Where was this place? Why was he here? Sure, he'd gotten the introduction upon waking up but it didn't make him feel all that assured until he heard everything from Ai.

Around him others moved about and he decides to stop in front of a food stand, picking up a neatly packaged sweet for his family to share, should they like. Anyone who might look at him from afar might mistake him for his father. He and Zero were quite alike, after all, but then if you could sense those differences - Ren was definitely more like his mother, as an aristocratic Vampire.]

Apartment Building

[Ren found the source of his mother's scent easily, overwhelmed by it and that of his father's that lingered in the air with hers. He would find Ai with her, surely. Where his family was, he would find all of them. Still he found himself pacing, wondering how to process seeing his father again. It had been some time, after all. He wouldn't want him to see it on his face - how he had missed him, how upset he was that their mother had given her life for their other father to live peacefully. He wished they could have all lived together, but that had not been the hand their lives had been dealt.]

Ah- you're here.

[He smiles, looking up as someone familiar approaches.]

Stables

[Ren could recall stories his father had told him as a child, stories of his days at Cross Academy with their mother. He'd loved horses and that was where Ren knew he too might be able to quite all the overwhelming senses to hit him, the thoughts that came with them.

Quietly, he moves towards one of the closest horses, smiling as he reaches to touch it's snout. It was rare that creatures could relax around vampires, but he hoped that his presence would not be a bother to them.

With the other hand, he holds up treats for the horse before him.]

[Don't think that he doesn't catch the way you close your eyes like that, Ren, or the flush. It's more endearing than not. Not to mention very much like how Yuuki can be.]

We'll have to do both of those here, then. Although I could have guessed the latter, seeing how I found you in here. There's many different types of food to try in the Dome; all kinds of ethnic ones, too.

[If only Ren had been here this morning when he, Yuuki, and the others all had breakfast together.]

You might enjoy the shooting range anyway. There's guns but also bows and arrows. [just a little exasperated yet wry] The ammunition is made of foam, though.

[Zero then notices (maybe even more so) how his son seems to be struggling with himself, even while he just knows Ren is doing the most he can to not let it show. A father's instinct, maybe, regardless of ho they're from such drastically different points in time.

Without a thought he gets down on his knees before Ren to, this time, much more fully bring him into his arms. Getting rid of the height difference altogether. Pressing a kiss to his temple, he speaks soft and warm.]

I'm so glad to have been able to meet you here, Ren.

[It honestly made his heart feel heavy, just having a normal conversation with him, not unlike how they'd always been. The only difference was that Zero had none of the memories that Ren shared with him.]

Hm... it might be nice to try something different.

[At the comment about the foam bullets Ren can't help but let out a bit of a snort as he tries not to laugh. Clearly some things would never change in the future. As for that hug, the way he spoke to him and tried to comfort him... Ren takes a deep breath, hugging his father back just as tightly. His hair still felt tingly from the warm feeling of having his father run his fingers through it and now his temple did too. He wanted to give in to the urge to cry, just from how familiar all of this was, but that would be giving his father too many clues that his father surely was going to pick up on if he wasn't more careful.]

I'm glad that father is here... because it would have felt worse being alone... without mother or Ai or father.

[Ren wanted to say it was because his father wouldn't be there when and if he might go back, but that was a truth that he didn't want to impose on his family. Ai would eventually see it for herself, should she somehow convince the Wardens to give her memories of their time together or she drank his blood. Whichever came first, really.]

There's... there's so much I wish everyone could remember...!!

[A note of frustration because he honestly feels so out of place, being the only one. Ai would probably scold him should she find out he said anything that he shouldn't have to either parent but it was all he could do to keep his feelings from spilling out.]

[Zero's feelings over being in Marina have become more and more of a double-edged sword. On one hand, no one belongs here. There are things they all need to return to. On the other, there's so much less stress; there's no resentment aimed at he, Yuuki, and the family they now have. He can't imagine going back to a life where both Ren and Ai have yet to come into the world, and he knows that they along with Yuuki feel the very same, maybe especially as she's been able to meet her father again. . . Although with all of that aside, Zero can't not think of Ichiru as well, knowing that he's been unbearable miserable.]

I'm sorry.

[He says again. In a way it's as though he can practically feel Ren trembling. He's hurting more than any of them. It was one thing with Ai, with there being around twenty years between she and himself and Yuuki. With their son. . . a thousand have already passed. Such a great length of time that it's almost impossible to fully comprehend. So very much can happen even within a single year.]

I'm so sorry. I wish I could, too. Me, Yuuki, Ai. . .

[The embrace tightens. Even though Ren has already said that he and Yuuki are just as much his parents as they are in their future.]

I know it's not at all the same, but if you want to show me through your blood. . .

[If anything, he was hoping to avoid his father seeing the future. There was a lot that he didn't know about. The war, his death, his mother's death and his other father's reawakening... and yet he hated having to lie to him. It wasn't right. Part of him wondered if perhaps lying was futile. His father wasn't a child, after all. He could take it.

For a moment, Ren stays quiet, pressed against his father with his eyes closed. He wanted to stay this way forever, but he knew that it wouldn't last forever.]

Alright... but... some of it might just make you unhappy... it would make mother unhappy too.

[And Ai would definitely not be happy Ren allowed this.]

I don't like keeping secrets, though, and especially not from Father...

[He isn't expecting it. Not this easily. Ai aside, he knows (even without Ren saying so) Yuuki wouldn't want it, either. Even though it's Zero's decision, and his alone.

. . .and it also leaves him remembering the conversation he had with Yuuki this morning. She's so determined to not tell Haruka about such a great many truths, even though the man deserves to know. She's been beating around the bush. It won't last for long, Zero knows.

The part where Ren says he doesn't like keeping things quiet is just like Zero could imagine. Seeing how he's rather the same. It's why he ultimately told Yuuki about Kaname. Even if in retrospect it also wasn't the most wise idea.]

All right.

[He decides to make a compromise, though. now that he's thought again of what it may mean.]

. . . when you want to, then. When you're ready. We don't have to do it right this moment. [He smiles a bit.] I think right now I want to show you around and continue talking.

	[Ren actually feels relief that it doesn't all have to come out right then. He didn't want to cause problems but the thought that he was keeping secrets from his family almost felt worse than that.] I think I'd like that. Talking more... and walking around with father. [Zero does know it's for the better. Himself aside, it's far more stressful and worrisome for Ren. It isn't the way he wants to start their relationship here.

He smiles to that. Something probably more cute (for lack of a better term) than maybe Ren, or anyone, has really seen. While all at once also so fond.]

To be called that. . . it feels amazing.

[For so much of his life so far, he's honestly never thought he would have a family of his own. While for a good part of that, he hardly felt deserving of something that would end up to be so wonderful.

He gestures to the entrance of the stables.]

Let's go, then.

[It might not be the same, but he's curious.] I mean... she and I are different, I suppose but father has always been on the same level as her other father. 	She does. [It's both different, but the same.] I'm not her real father, but she insists so, anyway. But you're right. She's said that I was around enough as it was when she was growing up that I'm still her father all the same. He's. . . eccentric, to say the least.

[Although if he's to be honest, The Ichijou he knew from earlier one was more so. Once he began spending more time with Shirabuki, he changed. This doesn't ultimately matter, though. Zero knows the aristocrat is on their side.]

That man was of course capable of scary things, but no. It's not that.

[Come on, Ren.]

He's the one responsible for all of the hardships and pain in my life. It wasn't Shizuka. He had manipulated everything. . . . and also, ultimately, made Yuuki miserable.

Why... why would mother be with someone like that?!

[He hadn't meant to raise his voice, but he was definitely upset.]

He's- he's a horrible person. Why would she just...

[He wanted to run and be angry somewhere else where it wouldn't hurt his father or his mother. He was younger than Ai so perhaps she already knew these things and didn't tell him? He didn't want to know that.]

[At the least he did see this sort of reaction coming. He told you so, Ren.]

I'm not even sure of how to answer that.

[It's true. There's so much of that relationship which he will never understand. All he knows is it angers him.]

Just as their parents were siblings, Yuuki was his fiance since she was born. He had 'saved' her when she had just been turned human. And until the time she had come to know him while still in that state, for ten years, she loved him without having any of her memories.

[It hasn't even been three years, yet it feels like a lifetime ago.]

She remained attached to him. That doesn't mean she agreed with his actions, though. Like how he was on the path to eradicate all purebloods. [Something which Zero had no issue with.] Even when she learned that he was not her real brother, and instead one of the very first vampires from over ten thousand years ago, her feelings did not change.

I— [One of his hands balls into a fist. He tries to not let it show, but it does. Ren will see it.] . . .I genuinely felt she would follow along the same path with him. I constantly was discarding how I felt. If I'm to look back on those years and my time with her, I realize that I could say that I ended up loving her even so early on.

And yet, that man. . . after he tossed his heart into the furnace, and moment before he was encased in ice, he said how he wanted us to be together. He said he never expected for my feelings to develop as they did when he initially made me her 'shield.'

[His fist tightens, even while it isn't exactly anger upon his face. Only heartache.]

Yuuki, she— She knows how I feel about her, and I know she feels the same. It's in our blood. There's no hiding any of it, but. . . she blames herself, and thinks that it's because of her that my own family, and everything which happened to me as well as my family, was all her fault. I constantly remind her it's never been her. It wasn't her parents, either. Yet, still. . .

[He's almost desperate to be able to tell her with his own words that he loves her. Even if she already does know.]

But I wouldn't turn back. If given the chance, I wouldn't. I don't ever want to be without her in my life.

[Ren remains silent the entire time he speaks. He knew some of the story, about Kaname putting his heart in the furnace and sacrificing himself to protect humans. He doesn't know what to do or say to help. He only wants his family to stay together.]

Father is too forgiving. Though, if it was the same for me I'd probably forgive too.

[Seriously, how does he handle all of this? It's somehow wound with the shoe on the other foot - he's the one with information overload.]

	[In the end he's grateful that Ren doesn't in turn give a lofty reply. Despite how Zero just knows that's not entirely the case. They'll stay together. No matter what.] It's not forgiveness. I've begun to let go of my hatred for that man, and I'll accept that he's a part of Yuuki's heart. But I'll never forgive him for all of what he's done. Nor to Ichiru. (Reply to this) (Parent)
