Day 390| Open Action
[Waking up in a strange place was bad enough but without Ai's presence he felt nothing but worry. He could smell her somewhere, like something sweet that drew one to it. There were other smells - human and vampire alike. It was almost overwhelming, were he not so focused on Ai and only Ai.

As he wandered towards her scent he began to distinguish others, making him stop in surprise. He could smell his mother - that soft smell of sunlight that had always been hers - and his father. It made him press the back of his hand to his mouth as he tried to calm himself. Where was this place? Why was he here? Sure, he'd gotten the introduction upon waking up but it didn't make him feel all that assured until he heard everything from Ai.

Around him others moved about and he decides to stop in front of a food stand, picking up a neatly packaged sweet for his family to share, should they like. Anyone who might look at him from afar might mistake him for his father. He and Zero were quite alike, after all, but then if you could sense those differences - Ren was definitely more like his mother, as an aristocratic Vampire.]

Apartment Building

[Ren found the source of his mother's scent easily, overwhelmed by it and that of his father's that lingered in the air with hers. He would find Ai with her, surely. Where his family was, he would find all of them. Still he found himself pacing, wondering how to process seeing his father again. It had been some time, after all. He wouldn't want him to see it on his face - how he had missed him, how upset he was that their mother had given her life for their other father to live peacefully. He wished they could have all lived together, but that had not been the hand their lives had been dealt.]

Ah- you're here.

[He smiles, looking up as someone familiar approaches.]

Stables

[Ren could recall stories his father had told him as a child, stories of his days at Cross Academy with their mother. He'd loved horses and that was where Ren knew he too might be able to quite all the overwhelming senses to hit him, the thoughts that came with them.

Quietly, he moves towards one of the closest horses, smiling as he reaches to touch it's snout. It was rare that creatures could relax around vampires, but he hoped that his presence would not be a bother to them.

With the other hand, he holds up treats for the horse before him.]

[For a moment he's struck. Ai was determined to know him, regardless of their parents. It made his heart swell in his chest. It was enough that she was even here at all but if they could be as they always were he would be happy.]

Of course... I should have known that onee-sama wouldn't sit idly.

[He couldn't help but smile, color flushing his skin.]

Oh? Somehow the thought of mother having a green thumb seems a bit frightening.

[He's joking, of course. She already was a terrible cook but he couldn't picture her growing plants, even if it was a sweet thought. He wanted to imagine her surrounded by flowers, smelling sweet like the soil and the plants. He was nervous seeing her again, not knowing how she would react to a person like him whom she did not know.

As it was, it occurs to him that this should be about the time when Ai had feelings for his father, if memory served correctly.

Ah. Clearly he had some steep competition from his own father. How unfortunate.]

Is there anywhere else onee-sama likes to go? I want to see all the places you like.

[For now he could be patient.]

[If she didn't know how it felt to not be known by someone who had always loved her, Ai might not be so adamant but she did. It wasn't just going to happen to her once but it had happened twice and she knew there was once more definitely waiting for her when father woke. There wasn't anything Ai could do about not knowing Ren when he first appeared here, but she can try to know him now.]

Not when it involves something this important.

[She sees that flush out of the corner of her eye.]

Papa helps her out and she has two other employees so if mother has problems, there are others to help her out.

[Later Ren will see the single flowerpot in Ai's room that was a gift from mother. Chances are that he'll end up with one too but mother was definitely happy among the flowers. Really though, Yuuki was the most loving person ever despite that she was still so young. She accepted Ai after the situation had been explained to her.

!!!! Don't say a word on that matter, Ren!

Unless he wants to see his sister flustered.]

I like to go to the beach even if it's not the real one. The sunsets are still very beautiful there. Mostly I just like trying out everything available to us here.

[He really shouldn't be surprised that their mother had help, or that Ai was that adamant to know him. Both women had that determined streak in them.]

Maybe, after I see mother and father, when the sun sets... we could go watch it together.

[Honestly he liked being able to wake up early enough to catch the sunset with her, but walking about in the day time like this was just as good too. They could rest later, just as they always did - with Ai holding onto him or him holding onto her. Smiling warmly, he squeezes her hand gently.]

As long as it's alright with onee-sama, of course.

[He still felt as if maybe he should hold himself back a little. There were things she didn't know, after all - namely him. She didn't seem to mind and seemed more than eager to rush forward until she remembered, but still he felt as if he should take care to watch her. The last thing he wanted to do was upset his sister by being too eager to spend as much time with her as humanly possible.]

[Maybe when their mother was older she'd be able to do such things on her own but for now she's only just return to being a pureblood and has so many things on her plate. Ai was raised by Yuuki so it's only natural she got some of that determination.]

Hm, if I'm able to tear you away from mother and papa's grasp, we can. Otherwise we'll have to drag them along too.

[Oh no, now Ai has someone to drag into her plot of getting their parents to not be so stupid. Even if it's only for today.

No. No. Don't think about that part. Her grip on him tightens as Ai tries not to think about what it will feel like to wake up and know that her brother has been taken away. It's foolish to think that if she holds on to him when the day is over that he won't disappear but Ai can't get stuck in that thought or she won't be able to enjoy this day.]

Of course it's alright.

[There's a stiffness in her voice when she speaks, one that comes from holding back a deeper emotion and honestly Ai isn't sure if it's anger or sorrow. Perhaps a combination of them both. Yes, that was definitely it. Truly the wardens are extremely cruel to give her a brother only to take him away.]

I'm sure if I tell them I want to spend time with Ai, they'll understand.

[He can feel the tension rise in his sister and it makes him curious, but also worried. Had he said something wrong? He didn't know what to do, with an Ai who didn't know him yet. Trying to let these worries flow away, he decides to rest his cheek atop her head again as they walk together.]

I hope the wardens will help. I feel strange, not being able to know exactly what Onee-sama is thinking or feeling.

I don't know, they can be pretty selfish too. Would you be upset if they came with us today?

[No matter how much she wants it to just be the two of them all day long, Ai can't bring herself to be that selfish. Especially since today is all they might get with Ren for a long time.

His head upon her is comforting but she doesn't think she should tell him. Ren already has enough waiting for him when he sees their parents - for him to know that he'll leave tonight will only add to it.]

As do I. [Maybe she can demand to have her brother back instead of have memories of him. But then Ai can't wish that on him.] It's nothing.

[It anything but.]

Not at all.

[All the same, being out in the sun like this was making him somewhat tired and he can't help but suppress a yawn with the back of his hand. He was more used to nocturnal habits, after all.]

I don't mind either option.

[But in a way - how many chances would he get to see his parents again? That was important to him, but Ai was his most important person, no matter what.]

If it's nothing, why do you feel sad?

[Smiling softly, he releases her hand only to bring it to the opposite side of her head to rest it against his chest.]

Onee-sama can tell me what it is. I don't mind it.
