Day 390| Open Action
[Waking up in a strange place was bad enough but without Ai's presence he felt nothing but worry. He could smell her somewhere, like something sweet that drew one to it. There were other smells - human and vampire alike. It was almost overwhelming, were he not so focused on Ai and only Ai.

As he wandered towards her scent he began to distinguish others, making him stop in surprise. He could smell his mother - that soft smell of sunlight that had always been hers - and his father. It made him press the back of his hand to his mouth as he tried to calm himself. Where was this place? Why was he here? Sure, he'd gotten the introduction upon waking up but it didn't make him feel all that assured until he heard everything from Ai.

Around him others moved about and he decides to stop in front of a food stand, picking up a neatly packaged sweet for his family to share, should they like. Anyone who might look at him from afar might mistake him for his father. He and Zero were quite alike, after all, but then if you could sense those differences - Ren was definitely more like his mother, as an aristocratic Vampire.]

Apartment Building

[Ren found the source of his mother's scent easily, overwhelmed by it and that of his father's that lingered in the air with hers. He would find Ai with her, surely. Where his family was, he would find all of them. Still he found himself pacing, wondering how to process seeing his father again. It had been some time, after all. He wouldn't want him to see it on his face - how he had missed him, how upset he was that their mother had given her life for their other father to live peacefully. He wished they could have all lived together, but that had not been the hand their lives had been dealt.]

Ah- you're here.

[He smiles, looking up as someone familiar approaches.]

Stables

[Ren could recall stories his father had told him as a child, stories of his days at Cross Academy with their mother. He'd loved horses and that was where Ren knew he too might be able to quite all the overwhelming senses to hit him, the thoughts that came with them.

Quietly, he moves towards one of the closest horses, smiling as he reaches to touch it's snout. It was rare that creatures could relax around vampires, but he hoped that his presence would not be a bother to them.

With the other hand, he holds up treats for the horse before him.]

	[Ren laughs a bit fondly, rubbing the back of his head.] Yes, she did. I think she must have a sense of humor to have named us Ren and Ai. [Haruka shakes his head.]

It's because... your mother wears her heart very openly. She wanted to name you something she felt very close to her heart.

[At least, that's what he thinks. He doesn't know much about a daughter with children, or having grandchildren (what is even happening right now), but he thinks he knows Yuuki, from those short years together.

Or maybe she just found them cute. That could be it. It's not the strangest thing he's heard all day.]

I'm happy I am able to meet my grandchildren.

[Please to not be trying to trick him. Haruka's poor heart couldn't take it.]

[He definitely agrees with the sentiment, but part of him still thinks his mother took one look at the kanji and pouted until father let her have her way. And thus he was named Ren. Ren smiles a bit, not quite convinced that his mother would be so well thought as far as naming her children.]

I am as well! Mother loved you both very much... and made sure to tell us some stories.

[Not many, but the ones she remembered.]

[Haruka's smile fades. He doesn't know how old his daughter grows to be, or when she eventually has a child, but he doesn't expect 'loved', or the need for stories. But then, he supposes, he and Juri have already lived a long time, and when Yuuki's life is stable and she is strong, so strong, they can rest themselves.

The thought doesn't bother him so much, when he thinks about it, but this boy doesn't need to worry about the thoughts of an old man.]

I'll tell you and Ai all the stories you'd like, about your grandmother and your mother. Even your father, if you want.

[Haruka's pretty sure Kaname isn't this kid's father, but...]

[Ren can already tell he must have said something wrong, but he tries not to let it bother him. His grandfather is here in front of him, just as his mother and father were. It made him feel joy beyond measure. Ai must have been excited too, he thinks.]

All of it! I want to hear all of it.

[His eyes light up with excitement at the thought. He liked hearing stories from before he was born and he had many to tell of his own, having lived as long as he had, but he would omit the harder to swallow topics.]

[Ren would probably not be surprised by the skepticism. He's come to understand that his sister takes quite a bit after his other father in personality. She was rather capricious all on her own, of course.]

Ah... I did see her for a little while. It must have been a surprise.

[She cried and allowed him to cry on her. It still made his chest ache to think about it.]

As for hunger... I don't mind waiting.

[Starving would not be good but he wasn't going to push something like that onto Ai. It wasn't her responsibility to take care of him when she didn't even know him.]

I arrived only yesterday. It's been hard on her.

[For many reasons. One he wonders if these children know better than he does. To have a parent look at you without recognition, to not trust what is being said. If he had more faith in the world they live in, maybe it wouldn't have been so hard.

He tilts his head, staring at the young man before him. He's sure they all don't mind waiting but...]

Don't push yourself too hard. I will make sure all of you are well cared for.

[That's his job!]

You missed breakfast, sadly. Your mother made cute shapes out of the pancakes. [Beam. Adorable mother-daughter cooking team. It was so cute Ren, you missed it]

It was very good!

[But Haruka is a masochist and would eat anything Yuuki put in front of him with a smile. Maybe he isn't the best judge?]

They did well. [He's just a proud father. Yuuki doesn't get to do much, and he's never seen her interact with anyone other than their small family. He's more happy about the successful morning than breakfast, to be honest.

Hm.]

Ai is like her father, then?

[Kaname wasn't motivated unless by Yuuki. It was so endearing.]

[Disagreeable... ha. That sounds about right. He hasn't spent enough time with Ai to tell, but he can see the physical resemblance between her and Kaname.]

Kaname can be difficult. [But Haruka's words are only fond. He doesn't actually know much about his son in his later years, but he loves him anyway.] But he is a kind child.

[Sometimes troubled, but that's why they just make sure he knows they love him, no matter what. So far, the worst Kaname has done was be resistant to their affections, breaking his mother and father's hearts.]

Ai is probably much the same. It just means they need more affection.

Grandfather is very kind and smart, to see that Ai is special. She is kind... kinder than anyone. Sometimes it's nice to tease her about it, just to see what sort of face she'll make.

[He might be giving his grandfather a hint of a weak spot to prod, to get to know Ai more. She would definitely punish him for that.]

Ai is... very much like mother as well as Kaname otou-sama.

You're very fond of your older sister, aren't you.

[The brothers in their family are always very attached to their sisters, it's nothing new. Ren speaks so fondly of his sister, like Yuuki once did when it came to Kaname and he always has of Juri. They're so cute.]

She's a very kind person. You both are. I can tell what kind of people your parents raised you to be.

[He will, though, make sure to remember that. She must be so very charming when flustered.]

[It wasn't terribly hard to be indulgent, or attached, to their grandfather. It had always been their parents, himself, and Ai, with their other father entombed in ice. To meet someone who had also loved their mother very much was a blessing.]

Thank you... I think mother would be overjoyed to hear that.

[It hadn't always been easy but somehow, despite the war and the factions, the had managed to have a fairly decent and average childhood.]

[His grandson is adorable. His children have made him a very happy man. Speaking of resemblances...]

This morning was the first real interaction I had with them. [He spoke to them the day before, but, well. He still is worried about the time differences.] I think they both care about your mother very much.

It's difficult. [Though... that's less about them and more about the entire situation.]

But that's all I've really learned. Please tell me about what your family is like.

[He feels like there's so much missing, and he wonders if it's the reluctance to talk about Kaname or the truth about her and Zero, or just that he has no memory of his beautiful, precious little girl beyond the small child never allowed to see the world.]

I want to know everything about my precious child, and her precious children.
