[Day 390 | Video | Open]
[The video feed turns on to reveal Wally sitting in a booth at what appears to be a restaurant. It probably looks like that since The Rusty Spoon happens to be just that. On the table in front of him, there's an assortment of food laid out that one usually associates with breakfast: pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, french toast, and eggs among them. People might think it would be impossible for a single person to eat all of it, but not everyone has been blessed or cursed— depending on how someone wanted to look at it—with the super-fast metabolism that he has.]

Okay, maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a lot more people here today than there was yesterday. [Which is strange since today isn't a newbie day.] And I'm guessin' the wardens going all quiet on us too isn't just a big coincidence.

[He jabs a pancake with his fork and stuffs it into his mouth. Watching him devour an entire pancake probably isn't a pretty sight, but on the bright side, at least he waits until he swallows before he speaks again.]

So has something like this happened before? Because if it has, I would really like to know what I'm dealing with here. [Is it temporary? Are the people staying? Should he be preparing for the end of the dome as they know it?]

((ooc: If anyone prefers action, feel free to encounter him at the restaurant while he eats.))

[Isn't that a familiar face! Bart's gonna hold up his coffee mug in solidarity.]

This whole thing happens every so often. People come, people eat, and people leave. [Teasing, since he's not sure how much the kid remembers:] Nothing mega-exciting.

[Meanwhile, there' no such familiarity with faces or anything else on Wally's end. Sorry, not!uncle.]

So it's just the normal amount of craziness that goes on in this place? [Which he just had his first real taste of a few days ago.] That's good. It would have been just my luck if the place broke less than a week after I got here.

can we all be bros y/n?

Dude, nice spread. I was expecting those like, Frankenstein food pellets.

Color me surprised when I found them handing twinkies out for free. [Not that he ever paid for twinkies before in his life, but. Nuances.]

(Reply to this) (Thread)

it would be a crime if we weren't

Frankenstein food pellets? If that was the case, they might as well have just kept me in the pod.

[Well, he's still technically in the pod if what he's been told is true. But at least this way, he gets to experience the pleasure of eating among other things.]

The best thing about the free food though is that you can practically get whatever you want whenever you want it.

Pod? [Wait what.]

Yeah... that's great. But that was never really a problem for me.

[It wouldn't be much of a problem for him either if he wasn't such a stickler for obeying laws when he can.]

Yeah, pod. [He twirls his fork around while he tries to figure what he wants to say next.] It's....probably something you're better off not knowing about right now.

Dude, if I'm about to get my brains sucked out by aliens or something-- I deserve the right to know.

[Okay, that's a really good point. Still, he's going to use the private feature on his communicator since he doesn't want to potentially freak out any of the other one-day visitors.]

I don't think you have to worry about that. [Though he really can't be sure.] But, this place—the dome—is supposedly just some sort of virtual reality.

Like a video game?

Kinda? Think of it like all of this is in our heads and we're all hooked up to the same network.

[Everything feels so real that it might be hard to believe it isn't but the same thing happened when he and the rest of his team were stuck in the telepathic training simulation back home.]

[Very Tron-sounding.] Uh. Okay.

That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Dude, you're telling me.

[The fact that there's apparently been so many "glitches" doesn't exactly instill confidence in those running the place, either.]

So it might not be as bad as getting your brains sucked out by aliens but it's still not good.

[He tried to warn him that he was better off not knowing.]

I'm Wally. Wally West.

And, everything's not all bad. Most of the people around here are pretty cool. Not to mention there's more than a few babes.

I gotta give it to 'em for the food, definitely.

But, yeah... this has happened before... with all these new people showing up. All of 'em will be gone by the morning, but sometimes, they come back in the next wave of real arrivals.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]flashboy
2016-08-23 09:05 pm UTC (link)
Then everyone who showed up today won't be here tomorrow?

[He'll have to keep that in mind if he happens to bump into anyone he knows.]

So it's kinda like how some summer camps have visitor's day. But instead of family and friends, it's mostly a bunch of random strangers from different universes and realities. [This is his life now.]

Preeetty much. Kinda sucks sometimes. [It sucked being the one odd ball that didn't get someone, but it also sucked having someone and then losing them, but it also sucked because they might come back and get stuck, and who really wanted their friends to be stuck in a prison, even if it meant a familiar face? So many confused feelings.] You get used to it after a while.

You say that like it's a good thing.

[It's so not a good thing.]

Then again, it's not like we can really do anything else.

It can be... if you know what I mean.

We make do, I guess. But, there are worse things, I think.

[Most definitely not video because so many things could go wrong right then.]

Lot of people and no wardens sounds like it would be the perfect mix. Until you try to take advantage of it.

[He almost got a little sick from running around this place. His powers aren't as up to snuff as they'd been before he woke up here.]

[Wally doesn't quite know what to make of those words since he doesn't recognize the voice who spoke them.]

Take advantage of it how, exactly?

Bustin' out, obviously. [He says it with a light laugh.] The watchers aren't watching, but they left the place locked up pretty tight.

Oh, yeah. That. I should've known.

[He kinda figured escaping was what the other guy meant but you can never be too careful. It is a prison after all.]

They've apparently had a bit of practice with this. I mean, I've been told this has happened a few times before and we're all still here.

That's a lot of glitches for being so high tech. Maybe they spent too much of the budget on restaurants and food kiosks. [Some sarcasm? Yes, but he wonders if it's true considering all the eateries he's run by today.]

[Hey, all the eateries are necessary.]

Or maybe these glitches aren't quite as accidental as they'd like people to believe they are. [Which is what he thinks the other guy was hinting at.] Though I'm not sure what the point of bringing people here for just a day would be.

Hard to trust an A.I. you don't understand to always tell you the truth. What if it's not really just a day?

[Just because it feels like a day in here--or so he assumes based on what he's heard--doesn't mean it's really been one.]

Things are definitely more complicated than they seem.

[If he sounds quite certain of that it's because he knows it to be true.]

But everyone who showed today will be out of the dome tomorrow according to those who have gone through this before.

Tomorrow? Not sure I'm patient enough to wait around.

[Or the fact he'll have to leave so many people behind, if this kid is right. This kid who is so familiar in a way that makes him wary to turn to video.]

How long have you been here?

[That's another thing more complicated than it should be.]

I've been here for about a week so far this time. But I was here for about three months before. Or so I've been told. I don't remember it.

Yeah, pretty much. And it's not just my memories of this place, either. I've lost about a month's-worth of memories from back home according to a friend of mine.

[His last memories of home took place in early December, but M'gann said he remembered things that happened all the way up to New Years during his previous stay.]

Though I've heard some people return to this place with all their memories of being here before intact, too. Guess I was just unlucky.

Or you're a time traveler who showed up here after future you so neither of you could be in the same place at the same time. [He says it lightly, but he's a little serious. Time travel is a mess, and he would know better than most.]

Gotta admit, it sounds a lot cooler. [...Did he just say "cooler"? God, he is too young and too young at the same time to be talking like that.]

[That gets a chuckle out of him.]

Definitely cooler. Except I'm not sure the rules of time travel matter here. [Not that he's had any real experience with those "rules" before.]
