[The feed opens to a cheerful smile and a wave.]

Hi, everyone. I'm sure it doesn't need to be said that something odd is going on again around here, but that's often how Marina is, isn't it? It can be frustrating and unsettling, but we can get through it. Like always, right?

[A beat or two. Although confident, he also feels a little awkward.] Anyway-! Um- I guess what I'm trying to get at is how it can be important to try and stay calm throughout this kind of thing. So I'd like to invite you to Bean Crushers, in Sector 4. Whether you're new [quote-unquote], just want to relax a bit, or anything else. Everyone is welcome to come and have a drink.

action
It really has been A Day, and right from the very start. His heart had been shattered just minutes after waking, what, with how Soushi suddenly regarded him with a heavy loss of familiarity. Things were off in a general sense, too. People, their memories, how they were behaving. It was was worrisome, but there were still slivers of hope. And Kazuki was good at holding onto those. If they're lucky, maybe it all was simply Marina being Marina. Something which would end soon enough.

In the meantime Kazuki will have been where he very frequently can be found at: Bean Crushers. His home away from home, and workplace since practically the day he showed up here. With how clean and quaint the place is, it shows that Kazuki really takes pride in working here. Along with the espresso machines and other such gear, there are also a couple of siphons on the counter.

Just as addressed a moment ago, any and all are welcome to stop by. Whether a straight up espresso, hot cocoa, wine, or any of the countless options in between, he'll be more than happy to serve.

[OOC: Coffee-shop AU, anyone? Event!Kazuki is very subtle. His friendly personality is pretty much unchanged. Basically he had a normal upbringing, rather than filled w mechas, angst, war, and lots and lots of death. For this he's a college student, (still) an ace athlete, and makes one mean cup of coffee, foam-art included! One of his specialties from home is a particularly spicy chai tea latte. — This Kazuki does believe he's been working at Bean Crushers since arrival. (ps: coffee siphons are like this!)

Feel free to switch style/tenses. I'll match.]

[While he's been largely unaffected (or so he believes), Kija has noticed some of the strange differences today as well. New individuals-- some forgetting they've been here already, while others are recognizable faces from home, but clearly different.

It's fully frustrating!

MarinaNova never fails in being infuriating. However, he supposes he's lucked out-

He's the same as usual and doesn't feel different at all. In fact, he has someone else here with him who can verify it.]

I suppose that if the wardens are playing with us again, people will return to normal in a day or two.

[Kazuki could say the very same. He doesn't like how he now is so unsure of his own self with this situation (almost) all of them are in.]

Mm. That's what I've realized. [So very well. . .] Things like this usually only last that long. I think three was the most, at least when it comes to how long I've been here.

[He belatedly recognizes Kija, brightening a bit.]

I remember you! Have you tried out riding a bike yet?

[Today has been really strange. Bonnie can't quite put her finger on it, though - maybe it's because she's unaffected by the weirdness? Or maybe it's because she slept in way too late?

Either way, when she walks into Bean Crushers, she's a little nervous. It takes her a moment, but she'll walk up to the counter and give him a hopefully normal smile.]

Hey. Can I have a London Fog latte?

[It really has been weird. Which is why he's putting his whole self into the task at hand. Otherwise, if he's thinks too hard about everything, he'll end up confused (and with a broken heart) all over again.

So naturally he's going to be pleasant with her.]

Of course.

[Tea isn't exactly a staple, here, but there's enough to satisfy. Although it does take a few moments to recall the more specifics of her drink.]

Are you new around here? I don't think I've seen you before. . .

[He asks while beginning.]

Kind of? I've only been here for a few days, but nearly everyone's said that I've been here before.

[An unsettling thought, and one Bonnie doesn't like dwelling on. She can't control her past, but she sure can control how people perceive her here and now. So she shrugs, like the sudden memory loss is no big deal.]

I'm Bonnie, by the way. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of me from here on out.

That does sound like an odd situation. . .

[That's just like he is, too, though: simply looking and moving forward. There's no use in focusing on the past.]

I look forward to it, then. [He's always enjoyed having regular customers.] My name is Kazuki. It's nice to meet you, Bonnie, even despite these circumstances.

Nice to meet you too, Kazuki.

How long've you been here? A lot longer than me, it sounds like.

Coming up on a month, actually, though it feels like much more. There's others around who have been around for quite a bit longer, though.

Really? I know I was here for a while last time, but there's that whole amnesia deal.

[Or alternate timelines, or whatever this place liked to call it. Bonnie's head hurt every time she tried to make sense of it all.]

How long has this place even been around?

Well, today is day 387, so, it's been a little over a year. I've heard that there was another dome before this one, but I really don't know any details about that.

A whole year... [She grimaces.] I can't say I like the thought of being here that long.

I mean, the people are fine and the vast array of stuff to do is also fine, but it's not like we signed up for this.

[He doesn't entirely mind being here, but only when his and Soushi's memories actually match up.]

Not at all. They don't take our crimes into context at all, either. Two of mine were because I was late to return a book to the library, and that apparently I'm a drug user because I work with caffeine. [In other words, it's completely ridiculous.]

Hey, if it makes you feel any better? I'm in here for jaywalking, and for ripping off a mattress tag. That belonged to my grandmother.

I'm pretty sure no crime is too small for them.

We could poll everyone later. Ask them what they think is the weirdest or smallest crime around here.

Breaking off a part of a tree can count as property damage. I think even self defense can get you punished.

They really don't play around, do they? I'd hate to see what doesn't count as property damage.

[That does make him pause to think.]

I don't think it matters if it's something in the Athletic Center. Like if you puncture a basketball, or if the punching bag breaks from its chain.

[The day has been extremely strange. He'd woken up naked with an equally naked pilot running his fingers through his hair. To say he had panicked would be an understatement. After listening to Kazuki and realizing that they were indeed wearing blue bands around their wrist, Soushi can only assume that he's been affected by today's event. It seemed he wasn't the only one.

While he can't say for sure if he was the only one in the relationship affected, Soushi also can't say that he isn't. Maybe this life of normalcy is how they're both living. Maybe there isn't giant mecha that are being created with Soushi handling the manufacturing of the pilot-mech systems and dealing with the pilots (Kazuki) hands-on.

After Kazuki left for work (strangely as a barista), Soushi wandered about his (their) apartment. Mostly poking about to see if there were any clues as to what life he might have had. Kazuki's (their) room showed signs of two people living there - two sets of clothes, notebooks filled with Soushi's handwriting, objects that certainly weren't his. The bathroom too contained everything in sets of two - two toothbrushes, two towels.

One of the spare rooms contained books. It was like a study of sorts and even more notebooks held his handwriting. Information he'd been collecting since first arriving. One held recipes and inscribed on the inside cover was a memo to Kazuki. Clearly something he'd worked on but didn't remember doing.

Eventually there is nothing left to look at in the apartment (they seem to be living fairly sparsely) and he dresses appropriately to go outside. After checking the network, Soushi heads out to the coffee shop where Kazuki is currently working. His arrival is announced by the jingling of a bell above the door and he pauses momentarily as he debates this coming interaction.

Deciding to go ahead, he moves to the counter.]

What do you recommend? [Coffee-wise, not with whatever situation they're currently in.]

(Reply to this) (Thread)

No worries~

[Kazuki has been thinking somewhat similarly. After speaking with a couple people already, he's only begun to question himself, and whether or not he's actually affected by this all. In a way it's hard to tell; he honestly doesn't feel like there's much that's off, at least personally speaking. It's Soushi who is solid proof.

. . .Right?

The other had been alarmed from the start when they had woken up, while Kazuki felt nothing different. Not even their wrist bands. So clearly he's just fine. Doesn't that make sense?

Either way, he isn't entirely expecting Soushi to stop by the coffee shop, so he tenses upon his entrance. Although for some reason, he also felt his presence before the other even opened the door, and even how tentative he initially is.]

The cold brew is rather good.

[A somewhat new addition, or so he believes.]

Unless you prefer a hot drink? Then I'd suggest the triple shot coconut milk latte.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[The only way to make it through this with their relationship intact (whatever it might be) is to be aware of all the possibilities and not do anything they may regret come morning. Soushi is sorry for freaking out this morning but he can't take that back. What he can do is attempt to make amends for it.

It isn't his fault but he is aware that his actions may have hurt the other and no matter what was real there was one thing he was certain of - Kazuki was his friend. The world he believes in, the world Kazuki believes in - anything in between or outside that box. Soushi firmly believes that they are friends no matter what the circumstances.

He considers his options - the coffee, not the relationship. The weather in MarinaNova is nice today, warm as if it were summer rather than cold. That's what decides it.]

I'll have the cold brew.

[It's consoling in its own quiet way. He knows in the end, no matter what differences there may be now, that Soushi is still himself. At the least he wants to allow himself to believe that. So of course he wasn't intentionally trying to hurt him with such a reaction earlier today.

Kazuki still trusts him, both with his life, and everything else.

. . .and if he really did happen to end up wrong, then so be it.]

Coming right up.

[Although the drink is probably one of the easier choices. Although it takes much longer to brew than typical coffee, it was prepared much earlier on, and already in pitchers in the fridge. He doesn't ask if his friend wants any sweetener, already aware of his preferences. All he has to do is pour it over ice and set the glass down before Soushi, the straws in a cup on the counter.]

So. . . [He pauses, maybe a little anxious in spite of himself.] What have you been up to today?
