Day 385 | Action | Open
The first sense that came to the Doctor was the sound of the ocean, roaring as waves ebbed and flowed at a leisurely pace. Dark brown eyes blinked, trying to process how he got here, but the only thing that came to mind was how much he hated oceans this very moment. Oceans that contained beaches that brought back too recent memories he didn't want to dwell on any time soon.

"Yeah? And how was that sentence gonna end?"

"Does it need saying?"

Blinking once more he's out of his reverie, glancing downwards to his -- orange jumpsuit? It wasn't one of his that resided in the TARDIS for limited oxygen adventures or being out in space. "What?" He's startled, thinking perhaps he truly has lost track of time and apparently changed clothes? But these weren't his trainers either.

All his senses are registering that this certainly wasn't the TARDIS, nor his clothes, nor anywhere he recognized immediately off hand. Gradually he turns, seeing little huts and BBQ stands, and in the near distance a large building complex and a stable of sorts. Hastily he makes his way towards these buildings in hopes people could explain where he might be, during which he's being informed by his communicator a quick run-down of his current situation and location.

His affinity for shops took the edge off his irritation and confusion as he approached the convenience store. Popping his head in, he's relieved to see other people before he steps in. "Has anyone seen a big blue police box anywhere?"

"Yup!" He pops the 'p' on his reply before snapping his head back to Jack as he asked his questions, "Yes, yes, yes, and... yes." The Doctor's face fell slightly at the mentioning of Donna. It was all very recent, despite going on a couple travels since leaving everyone and saying goodbye to Rose.

"Go through all of that and seem to misplace th'TARDIS. You'd think I'd be more careful." But in truth he was more reckless, especially now after being told of his prophecy of knocking four times. It hasn't happened yet, but the Doctor assumed he's in the clear until then.

"What have you been doing with other... 'me's?" Assuming there had been other regenerations here.

Okay, so after Donna, then, judging by that look on the Doctor's face. Which narrows it down quite a bit, although he's well aware that the Doctor probably got up to a lot between losing Donna and regenerating. He has no idea, really, how long he travelled on his own before turning up in a bar and match-making him with Alonso Frame.

"They probably took you when you weren't in the TARDIS," he points out. "You wouldn't have had a chance, I'm afraid."

And then he lifts an eyebrow, grinning easily. "What do you mean, what have I been doing with them? Do you think they'd let me get up to anything with them???" He laughs. "To be honest, none of them have ever really hung about very long. The first was was here the longest, and he was half-human one, with your face. He was shacked up with Rose when I got here, but he vanished pretty soon after. Rose was here for quite a while, though." A rueful smile. "I miss her."

So they had been here too? Interesting. The Doctor dwelled on the possibilities of how they possibly arrived here from their world before he heard Jack's final sentence of sympathy.

Licking his lips, "And how did they leave?" If he had been here before, even with a different face, it was a good indication that it wasn't his fault he had misplaced his TARDIS and was brought here. Unsettling, certainly, but it brought some relief to him.

"Well, looks like I'll have to get used to this place for a while, eh?" His hands are tucked away in pockets, as he tended to do while wearing his long coat, and rocked back and forth on the heels of his feet.

"Uh." Damn, really shouldn't have opened his big mouth, should he? "It's complicated. The wardens say people 'get lost in the dimensional stabiliser' but no-one really knows what that means."

He pauses, studying the Doctor. Should he elaborate? The Doctor, of anyone, deserves to know the little they've found out about this place, but he doesn't want to overload him within minutes of his arrival. On the other hand, this is the Doctor. Pretty impossible to overwhelm.

"You should know something, Doctor. This place - this whole dome--" spreading his hands to incorporate as much of it as he can "--isn't real. It's virtual, all in our heads, and we're all actually lying in pods somewhere, dreaming this."

Well that certainly was a bomb drop. For a moment, the Doctor didn't even know how to respond to that, other than glancing around them one more time as if answers would produce out of thin air for him.

"I thought something felt off." He commented, but of course he didn't have any answers to that.

If only he could speak to the other Doctors that had been here, maybe they could explain more to him. "They must be pretty good if you haven't been able to get out." As much as Jack irritated him at moments, he did carry a large amount of respect for the man. He wasn't one to be easily fooled, making the Doctor realize the difficulty of the situation.

"The others, do you think they woke up?" But he didn't want to know what happened with them afterwards if they hadn't returned.

He couldn't help a little smile at the news the Doctor thought something was off. If there was anyone who might manage to suspect something about the virtual nature of this place, it was the Doctor.

"The whole thing seems pretty infallible so far," he agreed ruefully. "And no, I don't know what happened to the others, but I strongly suspect they're still lying in their pods. Some people come back. I did. Went missing from here for two days and came back with eleven months' worth of new memories in my head. But I have no way of knowing if I actually went anywhere, or if those memories are even real. We really only have conjecture, stuck here as we are."

He grinned, tightly. "But perhaps now we have your brilliant mind here, you'll be able to think of something no-one else has yet!"

The Doctor ran his tongue along the front of the top of his teeth pondering all this. Did he have a brilliant mind? You bet! Did he think he could think of something the other Doctors couldn't? Well, he couldn't say, but perhaps there was something they missed. Or maybe not since they weren't here anymore, judging by the reactions he's gotten from others.

"Care to help?" He grins manically to Jack.

No-one could resist that grin, and certainly not a certain Jack Harkness. He grinned back with genuine enjoyment at just having the Doctor here again.

"Thought you'd never ask!" he said glibly, sliding his arm through the Doctor's so he could lead him off down the stree. "Ultimate tour guide, that's me. Let me show you around!"

((OOC: Leave it there, and let them meet again sometime that's a bit more current?))
