The entire idea was to learn as much as possible about him - the original request sounded a lot like what I first asked when I arrived, after all. Then it became clear that he was more likely to be a danger than an asset, which brought up the question how much of a danger. And as he is highly unlikely to kill me - which Lelouch is perfectly aware of - and obviously even if I was wrong about that, it would have been valuable to learn, as well - I judged it best to see what he is like alone.
Because a person is far more likely to reveal themselves when not fully aware that they are being tested.
