day 377 - action
Open to All

[Nope, he doesn't do heat. At all. That means he didn't go to the waterpark or the beach or any other place where he suspects people might be carrying waterguns or balloons. In fact, most of Soushi's day is spent inside somewhere. That is truly the only way to beat the heat - especially if he doesn't want to end up the color of a lobster.

His time spent outside is extremely brief, simply to get from one location to the next and more importantly - to the air conditioners that are running inside each building. Soushi doesn't really deviate from his normal routine so he can be found in the library surrounded by books in the morning and afternoon, deciding to push lunch back a few hours to avoid going out in the hottest part of the day. Then as the afternoon gives way to the evening he heads over to Squeeze for a light meal and an iced coffee.

Both places will find him reading over various materials. He manages to multitask when eating, ensuring that he doesn't get any food on the book or that eating doesn't slow down his reading. Not even the occasional note-taking manages to interrupt the steady flow of his other activities.]

For Kazuki

[Soushi had managed to make it all day without a single incident. The moment he started home it was as if fate decided to play catch-up. When he felt the first splash of something cool break over his head, his first reaction had been to simply sigh. Right up until a stream of blue descended into his peripheral vision. He watched as part of his hair started to change colors. Tugging the rest of his braid of his shoulder produced more blue that now covered his hand.

Looking up provided a sight of the culprit but there was hardly anything Soushi could do about it from down here. His inaction only served up a second balloon, this time there was a bit of red streaking over his face. A shake of his head and then he hustled out of the firing range of the balloon bomber.

Before Soushi headed up to their shared apartment he attempted to wring out his hair and clothes to get rid of the dripping food dye. It wouldn't do to drip it all over the floor and furniture. That only resulted in the two colors mixing and creating strands of purple hair. With a heavy sigh, he closes the apartment door behind him and resolves to head to the bathroom immediately.

Soushi doesn't stop at the kitchen like he normally would but has every intention of breezing by it. He does manage a typical greeting to his roommate.]

I'm back.

[They had parted ways for the better part of the day. Naturally Kazuki would have loved to go out and about enjoying all that's being offered - including his first time to a water park - but Soushi had very stubbornly refused. It wasn't as though home was that much different, right? It's more so the actual temperature that was more intense here.

However at some point Kazuki needed to finally head back to the apartment. The air-conditioning was more than welcome. He didn't bother to call Soushi, assuming he would just make his way back soon enough.

At present he's putting away some of the groceries he had picked up on the way back. Of course appropriate for the current weather, which included a few bottles of coffee for Soushi. He could only assume he's been drinking the same throughout the day, but even so.

Kazuki feels his presence before he actually enters the apartment, but initially goes back to putting things away. . . except a second glance catches his full attention.

Eyes wide, he's both alarmed, but far more amused.]

Soushi. . .? What happened out th-

[Okay, he can't help laughing. What a sight!]

[Whatever his intent had been is immediately stopped the minute Kazuki starts laughing. Soushi freezes in place and is able to watch a drop of red leave the end of his hair and as it falls only to splat against the floor. A tilt of his head has him looking through a curtain of blue, red, purple and sandy blond hair. Even without their connection it's easy to sense his irritation at the situation... there's a silent it isn't funny thought that follows shortly after.

Yet under that there's something pleased at hearing Kazuki laugh, a feeling that he's trying to hide under his irritation. Because it's at his expense. Which is also kind of embarrassing.]

I'm going to get cleaned up before it stains.

[He doesn't offer an explanation as to what happened and continues on to their shared bathroom. If Kazuki really wants to know, he'll come ask again.

Soushi should have just stopped at the other bathroom in the apartment, then Kazuki wouldn't have seen him looking a mess. Well, a mess in a way that was different from his sleep-rumpled look.]

[Of course he picks up on how irate Soushi is. Sorry, but he can't help himself. No need to be embarrassed. This definitely is the more amusing type of being a mess.

It's too late for him to ignore now, though. He lets the last few groceries to sit on the counter in order to follow.]

Let me at least help with your hair, then.

[To make up for laughing, maybe?]

[Considering that he enjoyed the sound of Kazuki's laughter, he doesn't actually say anything about it. Enough was said over their connection without saying a word. And there's a huge difference between waking up a mess and being one in the evening - it's that Soushi hasn't yet had enough caffeine to worry about his appearance after sleep. He's hardly aware of what he looks like until after his second cup of coffee. Soushi is even prone to make it look worse over the first cup.

There's a small sound of agreement to Kazuki's words as he moves through their room and to the bathroom. He leans over to turn on the water and debates whether he should rid himself of the wet and colored clothes or if he should just get in fully dressed.

Either way he slips off his sandals, staring at them and wondering if they're salvageable.]

[He contemplates the same thing. Either could probably work, although there's also the fact that it's not as though there's any lack of clothing in this place. Ultimately if needed Soushi could simply throw them away. Likewise for his sandals.

Not that Kazuki can be sure he would even prefer that idea.]

They may further stain the shower.

[Possibly. It'll be enough just with his hair and skin alone.]

We can soak them later. Unless you want to just toss them.

[He just goes ahead then and takes off his own shirt, not bothering with his shorts since he hadn't changed out of the swim-trunks from earlier.]

[Soushi has to remind himself that his hair is still a wet mess because the urge to brush aside his bangs to rub his forehead is strong. It's a terrible feeling to throw away clothes. They were comfortable and he'd rather liked them and it's a complete waste but Kazuki is right.]

We'd have to ensure all of the dye was removed or they could potentially ruin other clothing.

[With a sigh he peels the damp shirt off and proceeds to place it in the wastebin. The same action is done to his shorts and he doesn't even bother to check whether his underwear can be saved, just dumps it in with the rest of his clothing. Even if they do attempt to clean them, at least they won't make a mess on their bathroom floor beforehand.]

[There's a fair bit more of it than Kazuki had initially assumed, if he's to go by how his skin is dyed as well, and not just where it had been bared to begin with. It shouldn't take too much to wash off, right?]

Yeah. We'd likely need to do so several times.

[With that in mind Kazuki goes ahead and just takes off his shorts as well. There's the chance that the would be affected as well.

He reaches over to test the water before grabbing a washcloth, then stepping into the shower and making room for Soushi. Luckily it's a sizeable one.]

[He's fairly certain that there was more dye than water in those balloons, plus he'd been more interested in getting away from more attacks than trying to wring out his clothes. The clothes were soaked in a few areas and the fact that his hair was coated had not helped.]

Just throw them away.

[No sense wasting time and energy on something they might not be able to salvage.

Soushi doesn't test the water for himself, trusting that Kazuki wouldn't lead him in if it was too hot or cold. Once in he ducks his head under the spray and lets the water seep deep into his thick, long hair.]

[There definitely was. Especially off the fact that almost immediately the water is mixing to make a rich shade of purple. The clothing really would have stained everything.

For the time being while Soushi lets the water run through his hair for a bit, he'll lather up the washcloth to begin lightly scrubbing down his arms.]

[Eventually he runs a hand through his hair, pushing his bangs back before reaching for the washcloth. Soushi isn't rejecting the help but turns so that his friend can start in on his hair.

There is only so much he could do on his own with the hair since he isn't able to see all of it without a mirror.]

[Handing the cloth over without a word, he then begins on the other's hair. He lets the water run through it more before wringing it out section by section. This is repeated several times over, while in between he cards his fingers through it. Even though the water is a little clearer, it's becoming more obvious of how much longer this may take. Not that it's of any surprise.

The bad part is realizing that this could actually completely dye Soushi's hair. Which, while still a bit entertaining to Kazuki, would be troublesome.

He reaches up to work more on Soushi's bangs before focusing on his scalp for a little while. His fingers work through the hair, nails lightly dragging.]

[While Kazuki is busy with his hair, Soushi starts on his arms - scrubbing away the color as best he can. The top layer is most definitely streaming off of him but it leaves behind a faint stain that's managed to peneatrate into his skin.

He sighs because if his skin is like this then he can only guess what his hair is going to look like after. Maybe he'll just hide away--

Oh. Oh. That feels extremely good and Soushi can't help but close his eyes, allow his head to tilt back to enjoy the sensation of someone else's fingers moving across his scalp. A soft, pleasurable hum escapes him.]

[Soushi's skin may end up needing more attention after all. At the least he may be able to find something in the Dome that can assist in more thoroughly get rid of the color in his hair. If not just an extended amount of time what he's in the middle of doing right now.

While he can't quite hear the sound over the rush of the water, Kazuki notices plenty enough how Soushi is more relaxed. It would probably be an accurate guess to say that he's probably never had someone else wash his hair for him.

So he simply continues on, quietly happy with how content Soushi seems to be.]

[He will just have to wash it a few times and possibly even just wear long sleeved shirts whenever he goes out. Not that he doesn't do that a lot anyway. What he does care about is the state of his hair so he may seriously have to go out in search of something to strip the color out of his hair. Though Soushi won't be venturing out until tomorrow when it's not so hot out.

It is an accurate guess. The last time someone washed his hair for him was his mother and they both know how long ago she died.

As Kazuki continues on, Soushi forgets what he was supposed to be doing in the meantime. The washcloth is held in loose fingers at his side and when those fingers move down to clean the hair at the nape of his neck, he shivers visibly.]

[Ultimately Kazuki will just do as much as he's able to help. Hopefully it really will be cooler out by tomorrow. Sure, the island could get fairly hot, but here feels worse.

He notices the way Soushi's actions begin to dwindle, as well as that chill, only a bit after the fact. It has him slowing just a little as well. His fingertips do continue to sweep over Soushi's skin now and again, gently running his fingers through his hair, before starting the process all over again.

For a moment, though, Kazuki does stall a little, leaning in just slightly to rest his forehead to the back of Soushi's shoulder.]

Everything okay. . .? [Is the water temperature still fine?]

[If not, he'll just stay in until it does cool in. It isn't as if he doesn't have a million things he could be doing around the house. After all there is a lot more to be cleaned than his room back at Alvis.

Soushi simply stands there, enjoying the gentle touches. Touching isn't really something he does a lot of and doesn't typically get touched in return. Maybe a pat to his shoulder happens in passing in celebration or Orihime will hug him (which is more awkward than anything) and the professional examinations from various doctors but otherwise physical contact is kept to a minimum. It's just something he isn't all that comfortable with.

Except for Kazuki. As usual, Kazuki is the expection. They can sit shoulder-to-shoulder and nothing feels uncomfortable about it. He even lets Kazuki touch his hair which is something no one else is welcome to do. Soushi hasn't examined the reason in any depth beyond that of the simple fact that they were connected for years in a way that created this sense of ease between them.

A warmth settles on his back and he's only vaguely aware of Kazuki speaking.]

Hmm? [He hums lazily.

It takes him a minute to process the words that are directed in his direction but once he does, he still doesn't respond with real words - just more sounds.]

Mmhmm.

[Even Kazuki, himself, has never been the most physically affectionate sort, despite how, yes, he was plenty so if in comparison to Soushi. That went for pretty much everyone and anyone. Only, with him, Kazuki doesn't even think twice on it. The want very present, but especially during the long while where their only connection was a mental link.

And on top of even that, another two years back home. Except this time, there really was no coming back.

So maybe that's why he's acting how he is right now. They've been here for two weeks, but he still wants to stay as close as he can to Soushi. Even though it's been a few years since he returned from the Festum's side, it's as if he still hasn't fully made up for the time they had that physical connection. Even if that simply does mean sitting side by side.

The way Soushi replies gets a quiet chuckle, both smiling and relaxing a bit more against him. Although one hand returns to his hair, the other goes to lightly rest against his arm.]

I'm glad you're enjoying it, then.

[A lot of things have changed since they were a pair of kids playing around with an old radio. They have certainly changed. But somewhere beneath all of the pain and hardships they've been through, they're the same. Soushi still shares everything with Kazuki first and foremost. He is still the one to pull away first.

That is evident by their future when Soushi is a reborn baby. It's his fate to leave first when he returns home.

It isn't fair, he knows that but he's saving his friend even if that means he has to hurt him in the process. What matters is that they're both here now and can enjoy what they can in the time being.

And if that involves Kazuki's hands threading through his hair - well so be it. Soushi is going to enjoy it while he can and not think about whether Kazuki has done this for the toddler.

He doesn't say anything in response to Kazuki, just hums in agreement and allows himself to lean into Kazuki just a little. Enough that he won't have to worry about attempting to keep his balance against the slick tile floor of the shower while his eyes are closed.]

[It's difficult to not want to explore this very different world (virtual or otherwise); to really have fun with it, even. He shouldn't, he knows they can't become complacent and not caring how long they may be here. But a part of him - possibly larger than he'd admit - really wouldn't mind. Almost everything about Marina Nova is something they've never once had before. Many things, experiences, and plenty more that only existed much before they had been born. So he does feel guilty over wanting it all, even while also not being able to help himself.

Of course he's helped the younger Soushi bathe and wash his hair, many times by now, but it really isn't the same. Neither is it the same kind of affection. He could stay just as they are right now forever.

Thoughtlessly Kazuki's hand slips down just a bit further until it covers the back of his own, their fingers very loosely threading. Of course he's easily able to support him for as much as Soushi leans back. Although it does cause his head to move a little as well, now resting in the crook of his shoulder.]

[ Rean wandered into the library at some point of the day, eager to get away for a bit from the sun. Thankfully, he hadn't resorted to stripping to get cool out in the sun so he's still clothed. (That and he'd avoided getting pelted by water balloons or hit by water guns in the past few hours). ]

I guess I'll read something.

[ He looks around the library and notices someone reading at one of the tables... he can't help but stare a bit. This person... feels different? But he's not so sure he should tell them that... ]

[He's completely oblivious to the comings-and-goings of others in the library. People frequent the library quite a few times in the hours Soushi spends here. However, he can almost feel the eyes of someone watching him and he glances up from his multiple books to cast his gaze until they land on an individual who is staring at him.

A slight downward tug at the corner of his lips.]
