[ kara dreams of only one thing tonight: home.

not the earth that she came from, the job and post she's effectively abandoned, but home. her real home. the world that was lost. the one she can't go back to.

she dreams of a krypton that's still intact; of long talks with her aunt astra while waiting for her mother to come home from a long sentencing, and especially of running through the long, winding halls of her home, hand-in-hand with a boy of about ten or twelve, laughing all the while.

the boy lets go and darts past her, rushing ahead. ]

Kal-El, wait—!

[Bruce has never been to Krypton, knows little of it beyond the necessary like it's where Superman came from. And there's a green rock from it that can hurt him. The people from Krypton can be dangerous. Godlike.

They can also be kind. Sacrificing. There's a lot he doesn't know and for someone like Bruce, a detective in every sense of the word, that idea chafes him.

It takes him a few minutes to piece together that this is where he is at all. It's not until he hears Kara calling after a young boy that it clicks.

Kal-El.

This must be what her world was like before it was destroyed. How they are here now he isn't sure.]

[ similarly, it takes the not-so-super girl a moment or two to pick up on his voice, frozen in place while caught up in the confusion that lies somewhere between familiarity and a lack of recognition. that's a voice that kara knows, but not one a girl who never left krypton should. and although the name bruce wayne eventually attaches itself to the sound, bringing a face along with it, her subconscious mind decides not to pay any attention to the finer details: earth, national city, gotham, clark kent, batman, supergirl—

bruce wayne is superimposed against the backdrop of krypton, as if he was there all along. ]

There you are! [ kara turns and reaches for his hand. ] We were looking all over for you.

[ her grip is gentle, lacking both the force and restraint of a kryptonian's earthly grasp. on krypton, she's about as powerful as your average human. there's no need to be deliberately careful, to handle other beings with care for fear of accidentally damaging them. in this state, on this world, bruce could easily take kara out — without his batsuit, gadgets, or kryptonite. ]

Kal wants to know more about your Earth. He's fascinated by tales of this bright, blue world. Of these birds that fly through the sky on nothing more than wings they flap, of all things.

	That would make sense. [Interstellar travel is something he's heard of, but in no way is possible where he's from. Although space travel in general isn't common in the first place. Maybe it had been back before civilization had fallen once before, but that was thousands of years ago.] The idea of being able to visit different planets sounds incredible, though. [ kara drops to her knees and catches kal-el in a warm embrace when the boy tries to dart off in another direction after being shoved. likely in search for one of the people left watching them, even though kara insisted she was more than capable of entertaining her cousin until jor-el returned without anyone standing watch. ]

Why do you want to know? [ she pats kal-el's back in a gesture of comfort, then whispers something to him that has the boy darting out of her arms and down an adjacent hall. kara rises back to her feet. ] And for that matter, who are you and what are you doing in my home?
