[The Hub]

[It's a boring dream by Torchwood standards, an interesting one of your work doesn't consist of a top secret science fiction bunker, complete with mysterious alien gadgets lying everywhere, incomprehensible computer programs running on most of the screens and a pteranodon nesting high up near the roof and occasionally squawking to herself.

As for Ianto he's not doing anything as exciting as his surroundings. He's just cleaning up at the end of the day, throwing away empty pizza boxes ordered under the name of Torchwood, washing coffee mugs, dusting off keyboards, putting away discarded firearms. Maybe he's dreaming about this because he organizes thing even in his sleep. Or maybe he just missed his old routine.]

	Jack comes out of his office, and blinks for a moment. "You dream about tidying up the Hub?" he asks, somehow not as surprised as he feels he ought to be. (Reply to this) (Thread)

They still exist for him. He hasn't lived to see it destroyed yet and even knowing it will be it still doesn't feel real. It hasn't sunk in, not in the same way his own destruction has. It's hard to imagine all this being gone, and right now he isn't even thinking about it.

"Bad times, too." He looks around, smiling and giving up on his dusting. "It's a mixed bag, this place."

"It's where we lived our lives," he says, as if it explains everything, as perhaps it does. None of them ever had much of a life outside the Hub, after all.

He comes forward as Ianto straightens, now that he's no longer interrupting the tidying. "I spent over a hundred years in this place, on and off. Sometimes, when I look round, I can see it all, memories overlapping each other, one face after another. One death after another."

True. This place has become his life. He doesn't go out with friends - not that he has any to go out with - or take vacations or even really have days off, but he's never minded. This place is home.

"You've done well with it," He glances around too, taking in the darkens corners, the silent work stations. "What we do here is better than what they were doing in London. I don't know if I ever told you that, at least out loud. The way you do things here is the right one."

He comes and leans on the stair railings, watching Ianto appraisingly. It's somehow not odd seeing him here, because the Hub disappeared at the same time as Ianto did. There are other ghosts here for him - Gray, Owen, Toshiko, Susie, Alex - but not Ianto.

Though he is starting to find it jarring that Ianto keeps using the present tense, while he can't help but use the past. Another reminder that this too is doomed to end.

"Thanks," he acknowledges, with a tiny smile. "I did my best. Tried to do the right thing." He looks round at the Hub, empty now of anyone but the two of them. "Not sure how well I managed it, in the end."
