DAY 358 ★ ACTION, CLOSED TO REID & ELENA

[ leia doesn't stop. once she's out the door of the squeeze, she heads directly for the next sector. she knows that spencer lives in sector three's apartments, but she doesn't know which apartment — but she doesn't need to. it's easy to seek out and find his distinct presence once she's on the grounds of the complex. she follows it until it leads her to his door.

she takes a moment to school her expression, expertly pulling back her rage and replacing it with something much more neutral. whether her mask will work on a criminal profiler is up for debate, but leia can't bring herself to care.

raising her hand, she knocks on the door. ]

[ it's strenuous after all her bursts of force use today, but she keeps a close eye on elena's presence until she can feel the other girl drifting towards her. focusing on elena keeps the temptation to check in on a man she gave a black eye to. a man she was still cross with. a man who was going to have to earn back her trust. ]

Hi. [ soft, and accompanied with a tight-lipped smile that isn't quite as warm as she intends it. ] I could use an ear, if you wouldn't mind lending one.

[ elena doesn't comment, nor mind, the failed attempt to smile. her own, however, is certainly warm and encouraging. she feels a great deal of affection for leia already. she hasn't adjusted fully to life in prisneyland. bouts of grief and loneliness threaten to consume her. leia's company is very much welcome, whatever mood the princess finds herself in. not to mention, leia is one of the few who has no previous impression of her. it admittedly helps, sometimes. she likes blank slates. ] Not at all. [ elena tips her head to the side. ] I know a quiet path we can take. C'mon.

[ she'll be quiet while she leads, so that leia can say what she wants, when she wants to. this is elena lending an ear. ]

[ leia follows in silence at first, withdrawing her attention from the force and refocusing it to their surroundings. leaves crunch beneath her feet and there's the dull chirp of something that sounds like birds (or, perhaps, the wiring servo-gears of droids) in the distance, but they appear to be alone.

good. and while she really should start at the beginning, what tumbles out of her mouth when she finally feels up to saying something is situated somewhere in the middle: ] I'm pretty sure I gave him a black eye.

He knew.

[ it sounds like such a silly thing to be upset about, but it's a big deal to her. leia's lived the majority of her life unaware of her true identity. everyone from her adoptive parents to luke himself lied to her and withheld information. it's not that she doesn't understand why she was hidden, why she was told only when absolutely necessary. she does. really, she does. but understanding and liking are two entirely different things. ]

You told me about those films and given that there are multiple variations of your world represented here, I didn't assume that their existence was so widely spread. But perhaps I should have. He knew exactly who I was this whole time and he didn't say anything.

[ elena's steps threaten to slow down again. she doesn't think it's silly at all to be upset. you expect honesty from the people you care about. at the same time, she's been in reid's shoes. time and again in chicago. it's partially why she came forward with the truth from the start when leia admitted to being a princess. hesitance follows as elena gambles in the dark. ]

... Doctor Reid? [ he's the only person leia has spoken of by name, and reid's reaction to elena speaking of leia at the party conveyed a growing closeness. ]

[ a grimace. was it that obvioius? probably, though hopefully not for the worst case scenario reason leia assumes. nobody knew he kissed her. maybe she would have brought up the kiss to elena if kitty hadn't enlightened her in the most terrible way possible. it's possible she saw them dancing, but everyone was dancing at quinn's party.

I'm sorry, Leia. [ and she is, truly. it's hard enough to be here, to accept the reality of how they are brought to the prison and why. she doesn't need to deal with the fact she's fiction in another world, much less that she was kept in the dark about it. ]

In Chicago, that - that happened a lot. The rifts pulled us all from so many different worlds. People I'd only ever seen in movies or read about in books - they were suddenly real. It's okay to feel how you feel. [ she should get to feel however she feels. ] But I doubt he kept it with the intention of hurting you.

No. [ immediate, but— there was sincerity in his words as he tried to justify his actions. and her mother's name... but what good is one truth in the face of so many lies? how many stories did she tell him that he was already aware of? how many questions did he ask in hopes that she'd talk more about her supposedly fantastical, fictional world? ] I don't know.

[ dropping that topic, leia stops walking. ] Yes, Kitty. They were together for a while. [ and it didn't end well, but that's not her tale to tell.

she lays a hand on her brow. ] Kest, I can't believe I kissed him. He knows about— [ han. dear force, han. ] And he still kissed me.

[ but she kissed him back. she encouraged it. where she had come to terms with the reality of her situation before, of her options, she's nothing but unsure now. there's a sick, twisting feeling in the pit of her stomach that feels a lot like betrayal. ]

this is fairly more complicated than she anticipated. she could tell that kitty wasn't over reid, just like she could tell there was something, a connected at the very least, between reid and leia. if leia wants to drop the previous topic, elena isn't going to doggedly pursue it, for now. it feels like this may be important to sort through, if she's going to determine if she can really trust reid or not. ]

Do you have feelings for him?

[ a shake of her head that quickly turns into a shrug. she doesn't know. mostly, she was lonely — leia's been lonely for a very long time — and getting close to someone whose friendship wasn't formed on the foundations of her loss was a nice change of pace. but of course, that delusion is shattered by reality: reid knew exactly who she was and what she lost, and chose not to tell her about any of it. ]

[ elena's lonely too, honestly. she misses chicago and the respite that it gave her. she misses the people she had to say goodbye to. she misses the familiarity of those from her home world. she understands how quickly a line can blur when you have that kind of longing. sometimes it isn't even about the person themselves. just finding a safe haven for as long as you can have it. it's difficult for elena to grasp every angle here. she's spoken with reid and kitty before, but they're vague conversations at best. she doesn't know them, or care for them the way she does leia. ]

It's okay to give yourself the time to figure it out. [ and not just what she may feel for reid, but how she wants to proceed, and if she can really trust him again. she deserves that time. elena can understand being in the difficult position of knowing more than you ought to, and whether or not you should be honest about that. but it doesn't take away from leia's feelings, or her rightful anger. they're valid, and elena isn't here to tell her how to deal with it. ]

[ this isn't something leia's had much of in recent years: someone telling her that her feelings are valid, that she can take the time that she needs to sort through them. war and the positions she held didn't leave her with much opportunity for either. she had too much responsibility, too many lives that depended on her decisions to allow whatever complicated, tangled mess her personal feelings were to get in the way. there's so much that she's ignored, compartmentalized, and tucked away. so much that was left unaddressed. ]

I'm just— tired. [ so tired. she's exhausted, but mostly: ] Tired of being lied to, especially when someone thinks they're protecting me by not telling me the truth.

[ elena is guilty of that, isn't she? oh, she is more than used to being protected - that's what being a doppelganger means. to be protected, and ultimately the knife and the slaughter. but elena herself is guilty of taking away people's choices, claiming it was being done to protect them. jeremy, especially, has been a victim of her decisions. her stomach clenches, though she's not entirely aware as to the reason. ]

This is about a lot more than just Reid. [ her voice is soft. cautious. ] Isn't it?

[ it isn't, but he's certainly contributed to a preexisting problem. something she'd barely begun to contend with when she was brought to this place. alone and without her twin — who, in a way, had lied to her, too. ("what is it?"/"ask me again sometime.") ]

I don't know how much you know about those movies or what they contained, but the good doctor isn't the first person to keep things from me, because they thought they were protecting me. People have been doing that my entire life. I just didn't know about it until recently.
