[Mary Poppins looks quite displeased when she pops up. She primps her hair once before speaking.]

I see the wardens have felt the need to pull be back here, though I'm sure I don't know why. I woke up in my charges' nursery the next morning and no one was the wiser. However, it seems I must play their silly game. If anyone would care to join me, I'm going to have tea in the butterfly garden in the center of the smallish labyrinth.

Action

Mary Poppins indeed sat at the center of the butterfly pavilion with a neat little table set perfectly for tea. A small tray of sandwiches and another of biscuits sat in the middle of the table, along with the cream and sugar. All that waited was some company. But Mary herself looked quite at home, sipping the tea and conversing with the butterflies flitting about her.

[Sebastian's complaints about this sudden predicament are pretty much the usual ones: who dares presume to interrupt the fulfillment of his Faustian contract, once he gets his hand on the ones responsible he'll inflict terrible things on them, just wait until he finds a way to break the glass dome and watch the whole place collapse on itself... Normal, understandable thoughts like that.

He'd even been in the middle of preparing afternoon tea - how terribly rude of the kidnappers to delay that. Small mercies: he at least got to keep his impeccable butler's uniform.]

Pardon me, ma'am? [A hand to his heart, very proper, as he stops a little way off.] What a charming tea set.

[It's no brand he recognises. Might as well talk to someone with a sensible look to her instead of yapping into the ether, right.]

[Mary takes in the butler's uniform. She gives him a polite, but proper nod.] Thank you.

[Normally she doesn't cavort with staff, but this isn't your typical household.]

Would you care for any tea?

[It's topsy-turvy day today, indeed. According to his pocketwatch afternoon tea isn't for twelve more minutes (not that the time back home matches up the time in this world), and yet here we are. The sacrifices they make.]

I couldn't decline such a kind offer. Thank you very much. [But first:] Sebastian Michaelis, butler of the Phantomhive household. It's a pleasure.

[She gives a curt nod.] Mary Poppins. Nanny to the Banks children at the moment. Whenever it is I get back to them. [She almost asks if she can see how he measures up, but Mary doesn't have her carpet bag with her.]

[The measuring tape might just have curled up and hissed on close contact with Sebastian, so maybe it's just as well.]

Dear me, several children? It must be quite an undertaking. [Meanwhile, Sebastian is taking care of one brat-- er, little ray of sunshine. That alone is a handful. Now, since introductions are out of the way, he takes a seat opposite her.]

Two actually. Quite lovely, though they do have their fits of fancy. Still, they are quite attached to me. [She gives the slightest of smiles as she pours the tea.]

[It feels all kinds of wrong and backwards, just sitting there and being served instead of the other way around, but then, you can't really wrangle a teapot out of a stranger's hand and insist on doing it yourself - that would be terribly rude. Suffering through this inactivity (for Sebastian, there are few things worse than being inactive) it is.]

As largely well-behaved children are wont to, I imagine... on both accounts. [Both being little rascals occasionally, as well as growing attached to their caretaker. Sebastian's isn't well-behaved at all, so it doesn't apply in his case.]

And do you know any unruly children? [Her smile turns just a touch mischievous. She indicates there is both milk and sugar on the table.]

[Human food and drink taste awful to Sebastian no matter what you put in it or not, so he goes with his default action: take his tea the same way his company does.]

One terribly unruly boy, I'm afraid. [He exhales a soft laugh in response to her smile.] Unfortunately, my position grants me only limited ability to correct his behaviour.

[Mary puts two sugar cubes in her cup. She does like her tea sweet, and there are no children around to set an example for. She'll indulge just this once.]

Ah... yes, the butler does have limited responsibility. The banks do not have one. Just a maid and a cook. And me. Have your employers no nanny then?

[Well, then. No judging from this apparently-fellow-sweet-enthusiast who also takes his tea with two sugars. And excuse you, he has plenty of responsibility. All of the responsibility. Just... not always as much authority as he'd like.]

My employer is of the opinion that a nanny is not necessary. [Life is difficult when your employer is the child who'd require a nanny.] The household does employ a maid, a cook and a gardener as well as myself, for what it is worth.

But then, I take it your household is of a quite manageable size?

[A nod]

My employers live in a lovely, but very manageable house in the heart of London.

[She smiles primly]

Mr. Banks was not entirely sure I was the correct nanny for his children. I was able to convince him.

Ah. [He nods, understanding.] My master and I visit London only occasionally, but doubtless there are some quite lovely areas to be found there. [At least the ones that aren't crowded and filthy...]

My, my. I am certain you were most persuasive. ["Do tell."]
