There are many things that the wardens do that would be morally questionable, if they shared our morality or thought of us as anything more than subjects of an experiment. [That's just idle speculation about the wardens, of course. For all Chekov knows, they could be well-intentioned entities who are really, really bad at rehabilitating their inmates.]
