Day 296 [Voice | Open]
Hello, everyone. I know it's dark and we're all worried about what's going on, but it's getting later and maybe it would help if we took a minute to just relax and talk to each other.

I had an idea. People tell stories around campfires, right? I'm not sure how many people have tried building one today, but even if you haven't I think we could still tell the stories. And maybe it would be more fun if we take turns and just see where the story goes. I can start and then just jump in and we can make lots of different stories together or lots of people can add to a couple of stories. Whatever feels right. And please feel free to make things up with each other too.

Ah, let's see, it should probably start with, Once upon a time there was bright and and sunny land full of wonders.

But then a giant stole sun and everything went dark.

[Nico's found a place to sit still and not trip on things. He's found a small flashlight, and that helps.]

[She smiles even if no one can see it.]

Everyone was scared and upset at first, but they knew what they had to do.

[Oh, she wasn't turned off by his sarcastic reply. He wasn't sure what to do with that. Also, he sucked at this. Greek. Hades. He wasn't very well versed in happy endings.]

Theeeey gathered their supplies and weapons and went on a quest to find the giant.

[It doesn't have to end happily, but those are the best kinds of stories, aren't they?]

There were many brave soldiers on the quest, but a younger boy and girl and both insisted on going with them. They were told no, so they hid themselves on one of the supply wagons under a blanket.

[Are they?]

Unknown to everyone, the boy and girl had special gifts. They were both stronger and more powerful than they appeared.

[Of course!]

They had kept their gifts hidden from everyone but each other for as long as they could remember, but they knew if they could use them to help others they had to take the risk.

After many days and nights of travel, the army came to the giant's domain - a great mountain. At the mouth of a cave, they made camp and prepared to attack in the morning.

The boy and girl had to keep themselves hidden, but the smell of food over the campfire was making them very hungry since what they had brought had already run out even with careful rationing.

[In a bored sort of voice.]

I don't know how this is going to help anyone.

You'd have to try it to find out, wouldn't you?

I could, but I'm still doubtful. Maybe it's cynical of me.

Maybe you have reasons to be cynical, but it doesn't mean we stop trying. What do you think would help you instead?

Remain safe until all of this goes away? Like I usually tend to do when things like this happen around here.

What else do you do in times of crisis?

Of course, but you can be safe and still spend your time with others and try to enjoy that time. For me at least it helps me feel safer.

Fair enough. You have your methods and I have mine.

I'm just not used to spending a lot of time with a large amount of people. When things got bad back home, I just kept on running.

I'm sorry. That sounds hard. And it must be even more difficult here where it's really not an option.

Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. For the most part, I have been fine here. Even with everything that can happen.

I'll be all right.

I'm glad to hear that. Have things been better with Spike or the Defense Force? [She has her own associations with both, but she knows Rose had been distressed over it when they met.]

A little better. I think there is still a way to go before things get back to how they used to be. [Except that it mightn't because Spike had a soul and that hasn't been easy for him to deal with.]

With a change like that, maybe they only get to a new way of being, but it doesn't have to be a bad way I hope. [Thinking of upheavals in her own life to draw from.]

I'm remaining hopeful. There's no chance that I will let this get the better of me or be negative. [Even if it wasn't easy.] Maybe you're right.

That's even better. I'm happy for both of you. And if Spike is listening he'll probably be cross at me again for saying so publicly.
