[ morning ]

[Why couldn’t they give him letter writing? Or cleaning the toilets? It was something public last time too. He gets that it’s a punishment, but being up in front of people, presenting, it was humiliating. At least this wasn’t an all-day thing, or broadcast to the entire dome, like last time.]

So apparently my punishment this time is to give some kind of “respectable” lecture. I’ll try to have something thrown together this afternoon. You don’t have to come. [Please don’t come.] But it’ll be at the Education Center.

[He spends the morning cleaning up his store and working on his lecture.]

[ afternoon – lecture ]

[So, he really has so very little prepared. He has no idea what he’s doing. Even if he came with tons of notes and worksheets and materials, he would be lost, because this is just not something he can do. At least he has a topic. It’s dumb. The more he thinks about it, the more dumb it seems, and he should just not do it, but then he’ll catch hell for not doing it, and that’s even worse.

He winds up writing and drawing on the board.]

[This is going to be the dumbest lecture ever.]

Hades is the God of the Underworld. He is also known as the Lord of Death, and the God of Wealth. He rules over the Underworld, from Elysium to the Fields of Punishment. He oversees judgment, for the just and guilty.

He is one of the six children of the Titans Kronos and Rhea. He and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, are the three most powerful gods. He is married to Persephone, who will turn you into flowers if you annoy her. [He scribbles her stick figure out. She sucks.] He possesses a powerful Helm of Darkness and a Sword of Hades that can raise the dead from the depths of Tartarus itself. After World War II the three gods made an Oath to never have any more children. Hades was the only one to keep that oath. Up until recently he was barred from Olympus.

Thanatos is the God of Peaceful Death. He is the son of Nyx, the Goddess of Night, and Erebos, the primordial God of Darkness, and the twin of Hypnos, the God of Sleep. He is loyal to Hades, and has control over the Doors of Death. For a time, he was captured, and the dead were able to come back from the Underworld without him there to prevent their escape. He is frequently mistaken for Cupid. Love and Death are similar, but sometimes Death is kinder.

Keres aren’t gods. They’re spirits that feed on violent death. Disease, bloodshed, famine. They are also daughters of Nyx. They’re pretty awful. They’re like, part human, part bat, and poison. Death gives them power. They are the antithesis of Thanatos.

[That’s it. That’s all he has.]

Um...if you have any question you can ask them now...

[Sarah closed her notebook and made her way up to Nico.]

I really liked it.

Um ... Really? [Total disbelief here.] Thank you. But I think I'll leave this sort of thing to the people who enjoy it.

Yes really. The Greek myths are interesting, but you have a view of them that none of the rest f us do. It's really exciting.

My view of them isn't all that favorable, or unbiased. [But...] I wouldn't mind talking about them. Just ... not like this.

Well, it was better than most lectures I've been to. But I can imagine not wanting to do them. I can't imagine giving a lecture about... anything.

[She laughs.]

Isn't everyone biased about things though? I mean, if you met Irene, you might like her, but I can't stand her because I live with her all the time.

[Would it be dumb to thank her again? It would, wouldn't it? He just blushes a bit at the praise.]

Who's Irene?

My step mom.

[She rolls her eyes as though that explains everything.]

[Oh, he knows that look. He shares the sentiment - in case you missed the scratched out Persephone.]

Oh. I have one of those too.

So maybe you wouldn't like Irene. But the point is, you might like people I don't and vice versa.

Well, sure. I don't like most people. [Shrug.]

I'm trying to make a point here and you're making it difficult!

[She's smiling as she says it though.]

Right. Sorry. [He sort of smiles too.] Something about bias?

Just that everyone has it and that not everyone views everyone the same way.. and I guess it's not really that important.

No, I get it. Even if my point of view might be unfairly negative, it's still valuable and unique information?

Right. And I think there are other people who want to talk with you, so I'll let them do that. Bye Nico!
