day 293 [backdated] » open / voice
Well, given the state of things today, I doubt that it comes as much of a surprise to anyone, but Forensics class will not be meeting as scheduled. I'm sure we could all use the day to finish wringing ourselves out, so we'll meet again on 298, heading into lab work.

[ With that taken care of ... ]

Personally, as much as I'd like to go home, I can't say I entirely appreciate the wardens bringing a demented version of Miami's weather to us here. Interesting that the systems here have this potential, though - and that so many of the systems are so drastically lacking in failsafes. Certainly does a lot to instill one with confidence.

I just hope we all made it through this one as safely as possible.

Miami? Never actually been there myself. [Far too sunny for a vampire like Rose.] And I didn't appreciate the weather either. Nor the sea creatures that came along with it.

I was fine, once I got to a shelter. What about yourself?

We tend to see our share of hurricanes, but typically there are considerably less sea creatures involved in them. Price of prime ocean floor real estate, I suppose.

Fine, thanks. Almost dry, even, which I'm considering an accomplishment at the moment.

Falling sea creatures would probably put off a lot of people from living in Miami.

[She laughs a little, amused.]

Glad to hear it. I found that bundling up in a lot of layers helped when I moved from place to place. [Rose had to keep up appearances after all.] Makes me wonder what the next freak weather outburst will be.

Anyway. I'm Rose, what's your name?

Great to know the systems are so well-maintained and monitored, isn't it?

[ As if he hadn't already found the reality of this place dubious. ]

Dexter. Pleasure to meet you, for whatever value of meeting the communicators qualify as.

Indeed it is.

[ Sometimes, she questioned it. But it did feel quite real. ]

Lovely to meet you as well, Dexter. I think it counts as a sort of meeting. Maybe more of an introduction.

I think it qualifies.

Have they had you in here long?

It's been close to three and a half months now for me.

What about yourself?

A little under two months. I don't imagine you've seen much more in that time difference?

Probably not that much but enough. [Kind of vague of her.] That being said, I'm rarely bored here.

Did you ever see sealife mixed up in your weather back home? That was new for me.

Thankfully, no. That would be where the 'demented' angle comes in.

There is a lot of water nearby. I was starting to wonder if this kind of thing really happens outside of snowglobe prisons.

Well, unless a funnel forms and happens to rip up a bait shop or a fish market...

[ There's an audible huff as he purses his lips and takes a quick breath in and out. ]

Definitely not anything like that, though. I'd guess that the phenomenon probably unique to snowglobe prisons.

[He gets a little smirk out of her.] Some people might pay for the kind of ride we're getting in here.

I don't doubt they would, though I think an important qualifier of that is that rides tend to have a defined ending.

They defined it. They just defined it as never and we can see for ourselves that some people check out.

I'm not sure 'never' counts as an end. Not that I have any intention of actually living out the rest of my days on this particular ride.

You think the people who vanish have gotten out?

[ Dexter doesn't much care. Not because he lacks empathy - though he does - but also because he's still not buying into the reality of much of this. ]

You mean instead of lost in the stabilizer? I don't even know what that means, but I think if they did get out the wardens would want to hide that from us so we'd stop trying. [And she'd rather think of Robin back home working on a way to get them all out of here instead of "lost" whatever that means.]

Instead of whatever that's supposed to mean. Cryptic, but in their position, I would be too.

I'd imagine the ideal circumstance for them is that we all become complacent.

I don't know about you, but want to make it hard for them to get what they want. [Even if she has gotten more complacent by the day. It's hard not to fall into a routine of sorts.]

I can't say I'm inclined to be particularly cooperative.

[ Which is true - he's not. Though he's just been ignoring the wardens rather than giving them a particularly hard time. ]

You do get a sneak preview. Which could be considered an unfair advantage - if I were inclined to grade anything.
