Most of it was true. Sure, he tweaked a little here, left a little bit out there, but the over all gist of the events were true. It is a lot to take in and someone that wasn't Eric might be worried that it was too much for her to handle, but Sookie was tough. Eric knew that and he didn't believe in coddling people, not even Sookie. He would help her deal with it, if she wanted him to. There was a different between coddling and comforting. Eric knew exactly what that difference was.
He watches her while she copes, absorbs and deals with what he's told her. He knows it will take longer than that to deal with it, but it's a beginning.
"Then you don't know that you returned."
That puts him at a disadvantage. Most of the 'nice' things he did for Sookie were done while she was gone and after she returned.
