Both the sass and the looking up at the sky are things he can't actually help right now. The sass is as instinctual as breathing is for her and looking up at the sky...well he hasn't seen it during the daylight in a while.
He doesn't really react when she drops his hand. He expected as much. He does look down at her comment though, frowning a bit. It's not that he's forgotten what pain feels like, but now he's curious.
