A little experience. Sometimes there is no right and wrong in a conflict, only a lesser of unsavory solutions.

deanna won't pretend to know everything that happened with regard to this situation, and as much as she sided with the defense force on their handling of it, she won't pretend that it was the best option, a perfect option. it was just the only one they could come up with short of killing him. even though they haven't outright killed him, a part of him probably did die with it. the whole thing is complex and as much as she wants to be sympathetic to both sides, she can't. not really.
besides, maybe if she can get him to talk she can figure out how he's doing and what might happen next. ]
