Day 283 [Video + Action] [4th Wall]
[the video opens to a winning smile from a boy who looks about 13 or 14]

Greetings, fellow inmates!

I've an important question to ask you all. Two, in fact. [he brandishes a smartphone, the screen of which is blank]

First, my phone is in need of sustenance. Does anyone have a Starkphone 3 power cord I could borrow for a time? I'm willing to pay!

Two, what's the Wi-Fi password? Though I suppose I shan't need that if I can't get a power cord.

[Action]
[he's poking about section 4, idly fiddling with his communicator while taking in his surroundings. He's wearing his standard costume of tunic and leggings with cowl and hood]

[he comments quietly to seemingly no one] You needn't look so disapproving, the internet can be a very important resource! And what better way to get to know my fellows than ask their help?

[[ooc note: be warned, I may have to do lots of backtagging!]]

I hate to be the bearer of awful news, but...no wifi.

[Might as well get that crushing blow out of the way first.]

That is awful news. How are we to give our thumbs proper exercise now? I shall have to make a very strongly worded complaint.

Well, that's one way of doing it. You could always use your thumbs to write a strongly-worded letter to the head honchos.

But only if you record their reactions.

Alas, then I could not claim the exertion of thumb muscles as persuasion to bring us the wonders of the world wide web. Or worlds wide web, even. A doomed endeavour.

What methods have you found for coping in its absence?

[Now there was a loaded question right there; too bad it was sounding more and more like Loki simply didn't remember her from the last time they spoke. It would have definitely changed the tone of this conversation.]

Well, for starters, I actually go outside. Or as close to "outside" as you can get in an underwater dome with an artificial sun.

[nodding along, as oblivious to any recognition on her part as he is unfamiliar with her and everything else here]

And artificially sunbathe? Is the effect better or worse than the mind-numbing stupor of a thousand looped cat videos?

About the same, really.

[Though there were times when a girl could use mind-numbing stupor.]

Huh? [bonnie turns around from where she was standing to look at who had spoken to her.]

Sorry, I didn't hear what you said. Were you talking to me? [She doesn't recognise him and he wasn't wearing the orange jumpsuit- bonnie couldn't tell if he was a new arrival or not.]

[he startles and for a very brief moment his eyes track a magpie that only he can see and hear, winging away behind her into a tree with a disapproving twitch of its tail.]

If I wasn't, I should have been! [smiling engagingly, here's hoping she's a more amenable sort than Leah] Are you friendly and knowledgeable as well as pretty? You wouldn't happen to know where a fellow could find a charger, would you?

[he waggles his phone at her, but he's ready to make an escape if she turns out to be a threat]

[she gives him a smile in return, running a hand through her hair.]

Oh. Um, thanks. I'm friendly. [the pretty comment makes her smile widen a little.] And I know about this place.

A charger? [bonnie leans in to examine the phone for a few moments, taking a good look at it.] I've never seen a phone like that before so I'm not sure if there is a charger suitable for it.

You could try looking in some of the stores we have here. I can tell you where they are.

Could you really? That would be very kind.

So, what's your name?

Well met indeed, Lady Bonnie. [because why not]

[a little wary - this is after all a prison, even if she's friendly - but still outwardly bright and intrigued] Oh! That would be very kind of you.

[Ikol has only watched so far, not whispered warnings and dire predictions, so although Loki remains carefully out of easy reach he steps brightly forward]

[conversationally] You are quite familiar with our abode, then?

[Lady? Different, but she's cool with it.]

It's the least I can do. [She remembers being new to the prison once and having to rely on other people to help her get around without being lost.]

Mh hm, I do. I've been here for a while now and know my way around the place. [Bonnie starts to walk, waiting for Loki to catch up.]

Where are you from?

[following, still out of easy grabbing range, at a bouncy sort of walk]

I hail from Asgardia, which has terrible internet access. I have to go into the houses of coffee in Broxton to access their free Wi-Fi.

What's it like here? Are the other inmates of a sinister, untrustworthy sort, or are they more like you?

I come from Virginia and we have great internet access. But you have to pay for it though. [Free Wi-Fi was a god send and Bonnie was glad that most coffee places offered it.]

It's a mixed bag really. There are some sinister inmates around and some nice ones too.

[She looks at him curiously for a moment.] What kind of inmate are you gonna be then?

[noting her lack of reaction, either guilty or smug, to being implied to be neither sinister nor untrustworthy - perhaps she is as genuinely nice as she seems]

Quite un-sinister, perhaps even anti-sinister. And fun! I'm a very fun, cool sort of person.

How do the nice ones avoid the un-nice ones?

[bonnie felt that she was a nice person and fiercely protective of her friends. but crossing her wouldn't be a good idea.]

Fun and anti-sinister. Good to know. [she smiles over at him, then looks ahead to see where they were. not too far now.]

I don't know if you can avoid them completely. You just have to be aware of them, I guess.

[smiles back, a little warm feeling in his chest. It's nice to be around someone who doesn't automatically suspect the worst of him]

And be quick tongued or quick footed to escape if need be! Any of particular awareness-worthy note?

[taking in their surroundings as they go, eyes open for any obvious electronics-shop type signs]

There are a few vampires here. I don't know if you have them in your world but they can be pretty dangerous.

[If only Bonnie had full use of her magical abilities, she could easily stop them.]

But there's probably some shifty humans around too. I just haven't figured them out yet.

Ooh, complete with a craving for blood and aversion to sunlight and good Italian cuisine? Exciting! Or, er, frightening. A little of both?

Humans can be difficult to pin down. They run around and struggle too much. [possibly ill-timed pun but he can't resist]

Garlic doesn't have any affect on them. And some of them have found a way to work around the sun thing. [Using magic.] Both.

That's funny. [There's a pause.] You were joking, right?

Then you are missing out on a great deal. [holds it up to the screen] Look! A device with an application for everything! [including remotely setting off explosive devices!!] ... when it has power, anyway.

[small sigh, poking at the communicator.] This is an almost adequate substitute. Though it would be much improved by internet accessibility.

Sounds like it would be an interesting phone. It might be something that we don't have in our world though.

For what they are, the communicators are nice. It's better than nothing.
