[In the week that he's been here, Birdman has figured out what Food Allergies are the hard way, namely because he seems to have every possible food allergy in existence. This was never a problem that came up back home where raw nutrients were just supplied without them having to think about it. But in this place, everything was a crapshoot. Having to actually sit down and sift through what was and wasn't safe to eat was exhausting. And painful.]

[But he thinks he's got the hang of it now.]

[Some of the grocery stores here apparently have options for people like that? He had no idea that was even something widespread enough among humans to warrant special treatment.]
[That's one more notch against humans for him, them and their bodies (and thus the human-derived body he inhabited) even having the fucking capacity to get that sick from food.]

[Anyway, he apparently seems to have tracked down something designated "safe." He's got some nondescript plastic bag sitting nearby.]

Hey, Cain? Are you out there?
[Soft voice.]
I heard about the food thing.
Where are you? Is it alright if I come over?

[Suddenly not caring about Cain having touched it, he grabs it up and takes a great big swig before he has any time to think that this was flavored water and maybe more flavored things wouldn't be a good idea if he had such a strong reaction to that bite of food because holy fuck what is happening in his mouth.]

[He sits there for a second looking like a normal person who'd witnessed something horrible like a violent 50 car pileup or something, then turns away a bit and there are possibly some ptoo-sounding noises of maybe him spitting everything out back into the super cute teacup.]

[Birdman's eyes shift back to Cain; he sees the kid getting ready to laugh at him and his first instinct is to launch across the coffee table and strangle him until his face looks like it's about to explode and blood vessels are bursting in the whites of his eyes.]
[Again.]

[But Cain smiling is a good thing here. It means he's at ease and growing comfortable with him again.]
[Birdman looks hurt for a brief moment, then smiles and laughs back gently, swiping at his mouth sheepishly with the back of his hand.]

I guess not.

[He winds up scooting the cup under the skirt of the chair he's sitting in.]

Yuck.

Rice mostly.

[The real answer is rice and then whatever fruits and vegetables he can stomach, which aren't a lot. The "taste" and "texture" things are both a little bit of a problem for him, and by a little bit he means so much of a problem that half of what he chokes down winds up coming back up. He wonders if he can make a request to have his tongue removed or the nerves leading to it severed or something.]

[Either way, it's not like he's going to tell Cain. He can drop dead of malnutrition for all he cares.]

I'm thinking of just asking for nutritional supplements like what we had.

[He eyes the tea Cain is holding somewhat suspiciously, but.]

Is there a second cup around, by the way?
Maybe it's not horrible on its own.

[Anything to get the pumpkin taste out of his mouth.]

	Oh! Yes. [Cain hops up, the whole bag disconcertingly bouncing as he goes to the kitchen and pulls a second cup] [he comes back and hands it to Birdman by the ear. [Birdman looks strangely unenthused by the time Cain gets back, as if he's just had to stare directly into his brother's Crotchal Region and has consequently realized that everything ever is complete bullshit.]

[He takes the cup and just sets it down immediately on the coffee table because suddenly he is not hungry anymore and the pumpkin taste has somehow become the least disgusting thing in the room today.]

So what've you been up to.
[There's very little humor in his voice anymore.]

	Besides that, I have just been in the hospital. I was out for a couple days under sedation, so I checked the archives. [he leans his head heavily onto his palm, and his palm into the arm of the chair.] Bad idea, I know. Good call. But the A.I. here have their archives on watch all the time. Just try and be more careful in the future about that sort of stuff. Find someone else to do it for you if you can.

[He's slouched a lot and is practically laying flat in the seat with his own arms flopped over the chair's arms.]

On top of that, the Yuuki girl that walked with us sounds like some sort of telepath. I didn't consider that there may be more like us here. She's with that defense force bullshit too.
[He rubs at the side of his head and sighs.]
Should've just Shorted on her when I had the opportunity, but.
Oh well. Live and learn.

	Oh, yes. [he cinches his brow, making a face that is hard to decipher. It looks most like he's thinking. He spoke to Yuuki, and learned quite a bit about her.] She isn't a human.
