Day 254 Audio + Action OPEN
[ Ah, what beautiful morning here in sector 4, the artificial sun, the little noises here and there around the amphitheater, the tall thin man in the bright orange jumpsuit that is sitting crouched next to a stone wall, muttering to himself. He turns the dial on the communicator. ]

What is this? You got the wrong man… I ain’t done half of that… [He taps the little headpiece in that light fashion everyone takes when trying to get something old to work once more.] Are you listening to me?

[ There is another tap for good measure before Facilier tries to reason with the Loa again and yes, that is a bit of a desperation in his usually smooth voice.] We had a deal! And I know that I haven’t really held up my end of the bargain but it was just a minor set back… Small part of a bigger operation..!

[ ooh: Facilier can be found wandering around sector 4, eventually ending up in 0 and 5. ]

[He won't find any. She could perform a few of those as well--what daughter of the most famed magician in her world couldn't?--but this time? Real magic. 100% legit.]

Thanks. I like to think so.

[She's also nobody's sidekick, tyvm. In fact, she literally belongs to the we're-not-sidekicks "club"]

Want to find a seat? We can start with a mock round so I can show you how the game's played. It's pretty straight-forward, I like to think.

[ The club filled with fed up sidekicks then?.]

Sounds grand, there are benches over there. [ He nods towards said benches with a smile on his face. Yes that had been a nifty trick indeed.] Dazzle me then Zatanna.

[That's the one.]

If you insist.

[She heads over to the bench, and forgoes the seat in favor of sitting on the table, using the bench to prop her feet up. While he's settling himself, she deals out two cards to each of them, sets another one aside, and places three more in between them.]

[The catch is that all seven cards are face up. Since this was meant to be a demonstration.]

Okay, so...if you've played cards before, I'm assuming you know the usual rankings? Two of a Kind, Three of a Kind, Straights, Flushes, etcetera?

I'm familiar with poker, yes. [ Sass for you, so much sass for you because he can't resist. he looks over the cards, adding one and one together he adds.]

So we each gets two cards, then try to have something with the three we share? [ Easy enough to cheat in really.]

[She nods]

The ultimate goal is to make the best five-card hand possible, while trying to guess out what your opponent has. After the first two cards are dealt, you peek at your hand and place a bet. Then the first three cards are turned over. We call it the Flop.

More bets are placed, and then we turn over a fourth card. [She discards another card, and flips over another one, placing it right next to the first three] We call it the Turn

More bets, and a fifth card is placed down--[The same process as previous is repeated. Toss one card, flip another over. Put it up next to the other four] One last round of bets, and the cards are flipped over. Winner takes the whole pot, unless you tie and it's split accordingly.

With me so far?

[ He studies the way she is doing this whole thing as well as listens to every word. He looks up and gives her a mischievous grin.]

Down to the last dots over the I's. Just one dealer? [ That could complicate the cheat quite a lot, not impossible tough, nothing really is.]

Actually, everybody takes turns.

The dealer button gets passed around after every hand. It keeps things fair, but it's also a part of the game; see, the two people sitting next to the dealer have to start the round by putting in something called blinds, which is either the minimum bet, or half the minimum bet, based on where they sit. It keeps the game moving.

That sounds simple enough. [ He looks over the cards one more time, memorizing the rules once and for all. He gives the girl another smile.]

Well lets play then.

I'll deal then? [ Have to show the teacher how much he has learned. The cards gets shuffled around just as expertly as when she did it, two cards for you and two cards for me. See he did not even cheat one bit.]

You in? [ See he does even know some lingo.]

[She had to pick up the cards to see what they were, of course, a feat done by just barely lifting the corners of each. Her face betrayed nothing, but she almost immediately tossed in two chips.]

Sure. Why not?

If that's what you want.

I should warn you though; preemptive raising before you even see the Flop is usually a sign of one of two things: either you've got a horrible hand and are trying to buy the pot, or else you've got a super strong hand and want to buy the pot before anybody else has the chance to beat your top pair.

[She tosses her cards his way.]

Best way to get a person to fold, yes, but you're only going to get a couple of chips for your trouble. Not worth it.

Yes, I assumed as much... Just wanted to make sure I understand the rules. [ He takes her cards, shuffles the deck ones or twice before passing the whole thing over to Zatanna.]

Naturally the whole thing is to bluff your way to the big pots, just like in normal poker.

Assuming it's a bluff.

The unique thing about Texas Hold 'Em is that, with three to five cards on the table, it's entirely possible to know you've got the best hand.

[She takes the cards and also proceeds to re-shuffle. Less of a distrust thing and more of a habit. Have cards in hand, will shuffle. One way of keeping her fingers busy while she spoke.]

It is entirely possible to know if you have the best hand in normal five card draw too. [ He lets one chip travel from knuckle to knuckle before with the tiniest of wrist flicks he makes it disappears.]

If you have a royal flush no one can beat you. [ He smiles, he knows it's technicality but it's fun to tease.] The can only tie at best.

Yeah, sure, if you somehow manage to get that lucky. But those hands are super rare. Even if you end up drawing one, that's just one hand out of an entire game.

Really, some of the best poker players can bluff with nothing but a pair of pocket twos. I've seen it.

I have seen that too, I saw one guy once that lost for an hour then all of the sudden won hand after hand after hand. [ His fingers make two piles of chips into one the divide them again since there is a lack of cards.]

Sure he didn't start cheating?

People get desperate. Especially if there's actual money on the line. Or they're losing to a ten-year-old girl.

No no, he spent that hour getting the other players tells, so that he could see if they had good or bad hands. [ He takes his cards and sneaks a peak and since those cards were good enough he put in the minimum stakes.]

I reckon pro, if he would have gone to fast the others could have gotten wise about it.

[ He takes another look on his cards, just a tiny glance before he looks over at the little pile of chips.]
And now the turn yes?

Yes.

[The next card was flipped over accordingly.]

Debatable. And it depends on who you're up against. The stagehands who taught me...some of them would actually brag about being able to read each other. I mean, they'd never actually admit what the tells were, but it was another kind of technique, I guess. Either that, or they just liked being a bunch of jerks to each other.

It's all about smokes and mirrors, like the fact that if I always give a smile and chuckle when I look at my hand no matter what I have you can't use that against me.

] Said smile is there and he throws in a tiny little raise, was that a good card for him perhaps?]

Well, no, but if it's something that obvious, people probably aren't going to use it to judge you anyway.

[She sees his bet. And raises.]

Actual tells are much smaller. Hands twitching. Tone of voice. Eyes. Things you don't even realize you're doing.
