[ The tone is immediately identified; it's interesting how the combination of that and the simple feeling of his friend's hand on his shoulder affects the onslaught of emotion. Through the incessant hyperactivity of his neural transmitters, the blur of information in his matrix, there is something to ground him. It's remarkable how effective it is, and for a moment Data wonders what that sort of comforting grasp would feel like if he were able to process tactile information as a human would. It's hard not to, after his experience with the Borg - something Geordi, of course, doesn't yet know about.
It is not surprising when he finds himself producing tears - not unlike a human crying, it does provide a release for emotion beyond a certain threshold. ]
