Day 238 | Closed voice/Open action
[ As shitty as Dirk feels, he really doesn't like spending so much time by himself. It would have been fine, once upon a time, but now after having gotten used to interacting with his friends 24/7 (24/10? Marina seems to operate with ten-day weeks, he thinks, if the school schedule is anything to go by) it just makes him frustrated to be by himself.

So after having spent maybe 18 hours shut up alone in a random apartment he picked out after therapy ended, he decides he needs to hang out with someone. Not Jake, though. Not Roxy, either. He likes Dave, but he can only imagine how Dave feels about him, having been raised by his Alternate Douchebag Self. Aradia would be a good choice, but she was there at that session the day before when Dirk went off on himself. Ugh, why did he even do that. Fuck fuck fuck. Not Helix, he keeps getting existential around Helix and he's sick of getting existential.

So that leaves the cherubs, who frankly he should have decided on from the start, because hey, he's been friends with Calliope even longer than Jane or Jake, and Caliborn's always good for a laugh. ]

[ Voice / Filtered to the cherubs / Early afternoon ]

Hey.

[ Action / Open / Late evening ]

[ Sometime after he and Calliope get done hanging out, he decides to go for a walk. It's evening, there shouldn't be too many people milling about. Get some fresh air. Yeah, that's a good plan. ]

[ Blink. He glances up in mild surprise, but gives a curt nod. He doesn't have any problems being around Data right now. ]

Yo. What's up?

[ His brow furrows slightly. ]

There is nothing of great significance which is 'up'; I am merely observing activity within the dome.

[ A little tilt of his head. ]

Is there anything 'up' with you?

[ All sorts of things are up, but ha ha ha. ]

Nah, not a lot. Just hangin' around. You know. Ain't a whole lot that goes on here outside of the major upheavals every few weeks.

Indeed. I would consider said major upheavals to be more than adequately eventful.

Agreed there.

[ He shifts his weight awkwardly. ]

So nothing interesting?

I would not say that; there are always items which I would consider to be of interest. While at this particular moment I have no particular agenda, I find my observations of activity within the dome to be of the utmost interest. The varying types of interactions between the highly diverse individuals present, many of whom would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise, are most intriguing.

[ A slight pause; he does believe that the interest is likely more particular in Dirk's case, and while he's not given to discussing the specifics of investigative efforts, he does briefly glance around to ensure there is no immediately apparent surveillance. ]

Insofar as items which would be of interest regarding the dome itself are concerned - that is a consistently ongoing effort.

[ Blink.

For once he wasn't even thinking about "items which would be of interest regarding the dome itself". Data's reminder makes it evident just how much Dirk has been slacking.

Oh well. He does appreciate the information. ]

Right, got it.

Security's pretty damn thorough. Sometimes I wonder if there's a point.

[ It's impossible to stop Data from pursuing his duties, so the investigating is not likely to let up anytime soon. Even if it hasn't been as successful as they would have hoped. ]

I have heard similar concerns expressed upon numerous occasions. However, given the option between accepting the proposition that we will remain here indefinitely, or continuing to pursue information in an attempt to learn enough to successfully gain control over our situation, I would choose the latter.

Right. Of course. Same here.

[ He would, really. ]

So, uh, thanks for keepin' an eye out. Or an optical receptor or whatever you call 'em.

[ He arches a brow, and tilts his head just a bit. ]

I most frequently refer to them as my eyes. In my experience, I have found that it is simpler to use terminology with which others would be comfortable, and though my vision is not biological, that is the purpose which they serve.
