237 — PTSD group therapy
[ Trouble sleeping at night? Are you re-experiencing a traumatic event through nightmares or flashbacks? Are you avoiding certain situations or triggers? Have your beliefs and feelings changed in response to the event? Do you feel differently about yourself or the ones around you? Are you experiencing increased guilt, shame, or fear? A lack of interest for activities you used to enjoy? Are you feeling jittery or hyperaware of potential danger? Depressed? Anxious? Feelings of hopelessness? Are you drinking more than usual?

Welcome to the Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Support Group.

The group is gathered down at the beach. There are baskets set up with cold beverages and delicious picnic type snacks, along with a circle of beanbags for that intimate, trusting feeling. In the middle there's another basket with informational pamphlets and a list of assignments that the participants are encouraged to answer. ]

• When was the last time you had a full nights sleep?
• Do you avoid certain situations? Certain topics of conversation? Why?
• Do you feel stressed? Guilty?
• Do you find situations more threatening than you used to do?
• Have you had a change in interests lately?

((OOC: Feel free to use the questions as a jump-off point or come up with topics of your own! THIS is a good site for information about PTSD and the treatment thereof. ]

[Talking is good for friends--not so good for people you kind of know but aren't that close with. Still, this is what they're stuck with and at least most of the people seem chill.

He looks back over the questions himself.]

Uh...start with whatever seems the easiest? Or not talk if you don't want to. They can't make us, right? It's like the therapy version of a closet with a seven minute timer.

I don't know... maybe they won't taser us or nothin', but I'm pretty sure they ain't gonna let us go before we talk either. [ Looking over the list... what looks easy? What looks manageable? ]

Who would feel stressed 'round here?

[Richie snorts.] Sure, what would people who have been kidnapped to a dystopian paradise prison have to feel stressed about?

[He can't help the urge to rub his neck, already feeling the tension getting to him there.]

This place is nice, but I'd take the chaos of home over it any day.

Guess that depends on what you got waitin' for you back home. Ain't no one tryin' to blow us up here... an' I haven't had to help out with an amputation since I got here. Gotta say, that's pretty chill in comparison.

[Well, when he puts it that way...] Uh...I don't have a war waiting for me back home, so prison really is not the better option. Guess that's a big difference for us.

I've got friends, my parents, and a city to keep safe from crazy supervillains. Being stuck in a prison on your own? Not nearly as good.

[ Nodding some. ] It's different for everyone. I can see why you'd wanna not be here.

So... 's that why you're stressed out? Cause you wanna get home already?

[His neck itches, like fingers walking up it, and there's a weight in his chest, making breathing uncomfortable, but Richie tries to ignore it.]

That's probably part of it. Longest I've ever been away from home was spending a few weeks at summer camp. At least I don't have to share bunkbeds here.

[There's an awkward smile.] There's a lot of things here that just...you know?

Yeah, I guess it's tough to get used to if you've never been livin' on your own before... I keep forgettin' a lot of you are still kids.

[ A few weeks ago, he would've considered himself one of the kids. That doesn't apply anymore and it has nothing to do with his age. ]
