237 — PTSD group therapy
[ Trouble sleeping at night? Are you re-experiencing a traumatic event through nightmares or flashbacks? Are you avoiding certain situations or triggers? Have your beliefs and feelings changed in response to the event? Do you feel differently about yourself or the ones around you? Are you experiencing increased guilt, shame, or fear? A lack of interest for activities you used to enjoy? Are you feeling jittery or hyperaware of potential danger? Depressed? Anxious? Feelings of hopelessness? Are you drinking more than usual?

Welcome to the Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Support Group.

The group is gathered down at the beach. There are baskets set up with cold beverages and delicious picnic type snacks, along with a circle of beanbags for that intimate, trusting feeling. In the middle there's another basket with informational pamphlets and a list of assignments that the participants are encouraged to answer. ]

• When was the last time you had a full nights sleep?
• Do you avoid certain situations? Certain topics of conversation? Why?
• Do you feel stressed? Guilty?
• Do you find situations more threatening than you used to do?
• Have you had a change in interests lately?

((OOC: Feel free to use the questions as a jump-off point or come up with topics of your own! THIS is a good site for information about PTSD and the treatment thereof. ]

[Have a boyfriend joining you and bringing a nice cold beverage to go with that sandwich you're nervously nomming. He'll gently touch your elbow and give a small smile for support. They're here together at least?]

[ He meets that smile with an uneasy one of his own, finishing the sandwich and brushing his hand clean on his jeans before taking the drink. Not sure if it's a good idea that they're both in this group. He'd be much happier if Helix never found out about some of the things he keeps bottled up. ]

Thanks. [ A beat. ] This again, huh?

[Maybe he'd rather not talk of it but it's something Helix, of all people, deserves to know. If he can tell anyone, he can tell Helix.]

Looks that way. [Slipping an arm around his waist but keeping it loose in case Aidan was feeling twitchy or uncomfortable and not wanting snugs.]

Guess our wonderful wardens think we're still too fucked up not to be forced into therapy.

Ain't like that much has changed since last time.

[ Only, it has and that's why he doesn't want to be here. So much has changed and talking about it, opening up about it means that it really happened. Even more so if he does it with Helix who actually knows what home is like, who knew what he was like before all this crap. It would force him to accept and deal and confront and Aidan isn't a guy who's good with confronting like this.

So instead he'll try and pretend like nothing is wrong and slip an arm around Helix's shoulders, giving him a reassuring squeeze. ]

Gotta say, I didn't mind th' crayons so much. Can't we just go back and do that?

[ A small chuckle.] Well we could try to sneak out and find us some crayons to doodle things at home if you want?

[Though, in all honesty, even if it was hard for Aidan to do, it was something that should be done. Confronting what is bothering him and eating at him day in and day out. Realizing what's wrong is one step to trying to cope with it. He doesn't have to be good at confronting everything, there's no right or wrong to facing the things he's been through. It's gonna hurt and that's why Helix is right here with him, just like how Aidan was with him through his suffering and coping with the rape.]

[ Always did have an easier time taking care of others rather than himself. Only time will tell if he'll actually start battling this before it eats him up. ]

Pretty sure those guys wouldn't let us. [ Nodding towards the bots keeping guard. ] Unless you wanna add injury to insult.

Oh ye of little faith. [There's a mischievous glint to his eye but he'll just slip out of his grip to wander over to get himself something to drink before having a seat.]

Well, there is one definite way out. [A look to the other.]

It isn't really cheating if you talk to me. I'm here too and it might be easier than opening up to the random other people, right?

Yeah... alright. I guess you got a point there. [ Little sigh. ] Where do you want to start?
