237 — PTSD group therapy
[ Trouble sleeping at night? Are you re-experiencing a traumatic event through nightmares or flashbacks? Are you avoiding certain situations or triggers? Have your beliefs and feelings changed in response to the event? Do you feel differently about yourself or the ones around you? Are you experiencing increased guilt, shame, or fear? A lack of interest for activities you used to enjoy? Are you feeling jittery or hyperaware of potential danger? Depressed? Anxious? Feelings of hopelessness? Are you drinking more than usual?

Welcome to the Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Support Group.

The group is gathered down at the beach. There are baskets set up with cold beverages and delicious picnic type snacks, along with a circle of beanbags for that intimate, trusting feeling. In the middle there's another basket with informational pamphlets and a list of assignments that the participants are encouraged to answer. ]

• When was the last time you had a full nights sleep?
• Do you avoid certain situations? Certain topics of conversation? Why?
• Do you feel stressed? Guilty?
• Do you find situations more threatening than you used to do?
• Have you had a change in interests lately?

((OOC: Feel free to use the questions as a jump-off point or come up with topics of your own! THIS is a good site for information about PTSD and the treatment thereof. ]

[It's really no surprise BOTH boys wound up in this particular group. He and Aidan have helped each other through some hard shit and though Helix is through the thick of it (not completely healed, but functioning) he knows Aidan is still trying to fight those demons day to day. It may be easier for him to face them, but they're still there whether he likes it or not. Aidan's are just more angry and loud because the memory is much more fresh.

For Helix... he still loses sleep on occasion, still has nightmares or is triggered by specific things. He can't deny that fear is still looming there. He normally doesn't admit to it or talk to it to anyone but Reid or Aidan. So here he is... in an attempt to stop avoiding it.

Looking over the questions he can answer yes to a lot of these still, it's really no question at all why he's even here. It's not just for support for Aidan.

I don't want to talk about this shit. It's fucking personal for a reason.

[Though, the group isn't too massive... He'll suck it up at some point, thanks to the lovely stuff lacing his coffee and munchies.]

[That Lacus is here is probably shocking to anyone that knows her. She seems, outwardly, like the most well-adjusted, least traumatized person there is. Like Helix, she's not eager to discuss the reasons she's here, much preferring internal methods of coping. That doesn't mean she won't support her friends, however. And she hasn't talked to Helix since interrupting his heated discussion with Sougo.]

You're quite right. Not everyone finds sharing their troubles comfortable or helpful.

But I'm happy to see you nonetheless.

[It is somewhat surprising to see her here and though he doesn't know why she would be, it's somewhat typical that someone like her would be damaged in some way. She was so nice, kind, generous and loving... just an all around wonderful person. Bad things always seem to happen to good people and she was damn good at hiding it so others wouldn't worry. He's concerned, and maybe a little pissed off that she was hurt to the point of needing to be in PTSD therapy, but he wouldn't pry. She could talk to him if she wanted to though.]

Same here. [A small smile.] I mean, not happy with the reason why you're here but... you know what I mean.
