[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

How old are you exactly, if you don't mind me asking?

[Because talking about a couple of centuries just like that is strange even for him.]

Not at all. [ It's a point of pride back over. ] Over a thousand. I was turned in 930 AD. You can imagine how the world has changed since that time and with it attitudes on vampires.

[ He pauses a moment. ]

Yourself? [ It's hard to determine for Eric because Stefan's world and the vampires within it are so very different from his own. He estimates no more than a few centuries, but he could be very wrong for all he knows. ]

[He nods slowly, letting that sink in. He might be older the the Originals, which meant in his world, vampires went back even further than theirs did.]

I'm 164 years old. I was changed in 1864 when I was 17.

That is...young, both in human years and in vampire years. I understand your lack of control in the presence of Sookie's blood even better now. [ And in some ways, he forgives Stefan that slip. ]

There are few vampires in my world that could control themselves around her blood without some sort of emotional connection, or an order from a more powerful vampire.

[ He takes a sip of his blood. ]

Did you have any idea what you were getting into?

My brother has never had these same control issues. You're saying it might be partially due to the fact that I was younger when I was changed?

[He nodded at that though. Now that he knew her, he might have an easier time. It was hard to say.]

When I became a vampire or do you mean involving Sookie's blood?

Perhaps. I find maturity assists with control in most species. I was thirty when I was turned, past middle age when I was human. I'd already learned how to wage war, rule and survive when I was turned. But perhaps I'm simply very good at impulse control. I suspect that the Wardens would frown upon any experiment that would shed further light on the quandry.

[ He ponders that a moment. Nora was in her twenties when Godric turned her. Pam in her mid thirties when Eric made her. He knows that Jessica had some fleeting difficulties when she was turned and she is forever seventeen. ]

When you became a vampire, but the other is an interesting question as well. Caroline has never mentioned anything resembling the fae in your world.

Considering what that would require us to do, yeah, I'd say it'd end on at least a few punishments.

[Not to mention some pain on the part of whoever was a part of it.]

The woman who turned me...she'd been feeding me her blood for a long time without my knowledge. She used compulsion to make sure I didn't remember each time it happened. Then my father shot my brother and I when we tried to save her from being locked up and burned to death.

[The long, drug-induced answer to what should have been a simple question. Because he hadn't chosen this, and therefore most definitely didn't know what he was getting into.]

As far as Sookie, I've never run into anything like her. I have...issues with blood addiction already, so being around her is particularly complicated. It's a bit easier now that I am prepared for it, though.

Something beyond making up games and informing prisoners. [ He smirks. He doesn't think much of the Wardens' punishments.

But yes, the greater 'crime' is in what would be done to their test subjects. ]

Did your father understand you'd become?

[ He's curious how a father could do that. Apparently, later, he turns Willa in a hope that her father will realize vampires are human as well. It sounds as if Willa's father and Stefan's father would have a great deal to talk about. ]

Sookie is very unique, even in my world.

He didn't know what I would become when he killed me, or he would have burned my body. When I went to see him, to say goodbye, he attacked me. I ended up completing my transition with his blood. I couldn't stop myself.

[Seriously, this over-sharing thing is the worst.]

I'm sure she requires quite a bit of protection.

[Eric furrows his brow. ] And yet he was willing to kill both of his sons?

[ He doesn't bat an eyelash at knowing Stefan killed his father. ]

Sookie is surprisingly apt at protecting herself, but she does end up in a great deal of trouble.

He was on a council made specifically to protect our town from vampires. The moment we sided with one of them, we were dead to him.

[He made that very clear.]

She reminds me quite a bit of Elena in that respect.

Then he wasn't much of a father. [ But then Eric tends to be very loyal, very over protective to and of the people that he chooses to care about. He's aware that not all vampires, even in his world, are like that and even fewer humans are.

He hesitates and ponders that a moment. ]

I suppose I can see the resemblance.

Except in some ways, he was right. Katherine was just using us as a means to an end. We fought for her, and she deserted us the very next day.

[And his father was still his father.]

I'm sure it's part of the reason they get along so well.

Interesting. Things work very different in my world. [ Vampires can be punished by the Vampire Authority for abandoning their children. ]

Indeed. I think Elena probably understands a few things that Sookie goes through or has gone through.
