[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

[ Data is here, having been brought to this session after the family group. Though he's certainly not closed off regularly, he has eaten in spite of lacking the need to do so - it was part of the discussion exercise in the first group and there was no reason for him not to participate and experience tasting something. He eyes the question which he receives. ]

"Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans."

[ He frowns, a gentle line formed in thought, and his brow furrows. ]

To describe each relationship individually would be a considerable undertaking. There are, of course, those who accept me and those who do not; those who do are my friends, my family - they are important to me. They have given me the only home I have ever known.

[ Despite popular belief, vampires can snack so even if he hadn't chowed down on a bottle of blood, Spike would be good and truth'd up by now. Not that he's ever kept all that quiet about how he feels. ]

They're good at that, aren't they? Bloody acceptin'... even when they're better off not making that mistake.

As a whole, they are most accepting and welcoming, and often eager to understand and relate to others in spite of any perceived differences. Though such characteristics of course vary widely on an individual basis, there is a characteristically high potential in the species.

[ One slightly arched brow - he's curious. ]

Is it your experience that they are often mistaken in their acceptance?

[ Such a look. Full of quiet amusement, although some of it leaks into his voice. ] Almost always.

[ There's a single, curious arched brow. ]

Then you believe their willingness to accept others is a flaw?

I wouldn't go that far, mate. After all, that flaw usually lands me with an easy meal.

[ That brow remains arched, perhaps a bit more sharply, as he head quirks to a side. ]

An easy meal?

Yeah. [ And in a smooth creak of skin and bones, he shifts into gameface. ] An easy meal.

[ Well that is... interesting. Clearly so, as Data's brow furrows and his head inclines to observe closely. ]

Then you are a vampire?

[ He hasn't seen any others he's met pull that off, but it is the logical conclusion that the implication leaves him with. ]

Is your intended implication that humans hold no value for you other than as a meal?

You catch on quick. [ He grins toothily, contemplating for a moment to let the demonic features melt back — it takes effort, after all — but decides against it in the end. This is his home turf. Might as well show off what he's got. ]

And I wouldn't say that... they've got some other good qualities. Would be a bloody dull world without them... but I'm not exactly losing sleep over killing them, if that's what you're implying.

[ seven doesn't want to be here, the entire theme of this group is unwelcome, makes her feel not at home in her own skin. the parts of her that are human are wrong, as are the parts that are borg. she made the mistake of sampling some of the available food at the last session in a futile attempt to occupy herself with something other than speaking, but it seems taking cues from those around her and behaving in such a human fashion has proved to be her undoing in this session.

as soon as she spots data, she makes a b-line for him. ]
I wish to leave.

[ It isn't hard to imagine, given how apparent her difficulty has been in exploring her humanity on her own, that being forced to do so unwillingly is not an easy experience. Obviously, it seems most appropriate for him to be as comforting as possible - but under the circumstances, that's not an easy task for anyone. ]

Unsurprisingly, our desires do not appear to be of concern to the wardens.

[ He frowns, particularly on her behalf. It's been long enough that he's noticed what's affecting many of the people, of course - it isn't difficult to put together, after all. ]

Have you ingested any of the provided food during the course of the day?

[ the thing is, seven wants to explore her humanity. in the wake of her experience at the queen's side and making genuine friends here, not to mention her relationship with data himself, she wants to do more for herself. it's her decision and desire to do so -- the problem with forcing her to do it is that it's making her feel like she's back in one of the doctor's programs without the ease of being alone on the holodeck with no one to witness her inability to perform as a proper human being. there are dozens of eyes and ears, witnesses to everything... seven isn't self-conscious so much as uncomfortable. she's not at home with her humanity, so why should anyone else be allowed to see it when she isn't ready to show it? ]

Yes. I have. It was a mistake I wish to take back.

[ He frowns and shakes his head. ]

I made a similar mistake, though I am uncertain how the effects have applied to me.

[ He glances around at the others in the room then speaks to her more softly. ]

Perhaps it would be possible for us to remain engaged in conversation which is not related to the topic at hand, separate from the remainder of the group.
