[237] 'Lost Someone Close to the Stabilizer' group mingle
[This group's to meet in the warm, coffee-scented air of Bean Crushers in sector four. Inside the shops doors there's a plethora of cushy chairs, couches and bean bags to sit on and a small stage typically used for poetry or comedy performances. Today it's re-purposed with signs encouraging individuals to use it as a platform to speak from, though smaller grouping of chairs are there for the less social to chat in smaller numbers. Through out the shop is the typical array of goodies; brownies, coffee, cookies and danishes as well as other pastries and small bowls of candy on available ledges. For those who need a little something to get through things, there's also a small selection of alcohol available on the premises.

Several signs and boards around the room list questions of discussion, as well as stacks of cards for inmates to use as topics. (A few examples: "Have you lost someone to the stabilizer recently? Do you miss them? How does it make you feel?" )

[OOC; Mingle! Feel free to use any of the mentioned questions or come up with your own topics of conversation, though remember that the food is spiked albeit delicious. I'll post a comment for Rebecca below, but will otherwise turn off notifs for this page.]

[ he shook his head ] Nonsense, I finally have peace and quiet in the house.

[ he gulped and then gulped around a sip of his coffee again before he blushed lightly, looking away. ]

Did you... lose someone as well? [ she must have, if she was here, right? ]

I'm sure that can't be everything.

I did. I lost a very good friend. I met him when I first arrived. It was one of the days with anomaly that causes an influx of inmates.

[ ah... Bak flicked a glance to her face and then back down to his coffee, turning the handle. ] You only knew him for a day then?

[ strange how friendships can be made so fast and yet be so fleeting. ]

I knew him for longer than that. He was still here when I returned to the dome. He left before we came over to this one.

... You're referring to the other asylum, then. [ he paused ] Who was he?

[ unfortunately for Bak, he's never known any dome other then this one, but occasionally, he hears a thing here and there. ]

Yes, the other dome. Sorry I wasn't more specific.

His name was Ribbons Almark. You probably didn't get the chance to meet him.

[ Bak shook his head ] I'm afraid not, but I'll make a note to meet him if he should ever return. He must have been a great man. [ to make an impression on michiru.

... and if that doesn't hit Bak here it hurts. Oh, for a good impression! Just once. Someday. With some girl... ]

He was a sweet man from what I saw of him. Based on the reactions of some of those from his home, probably not the best person, but I had no issues with him and I wasn't in a position to judge him.

[Michiru doesn't necessarily thing the nose bleed incident was a bad first impression. Just unfortunate]

[ Bak bristled simply on principle ]

He was a perfectly decent man. He just [ almost killed half the order on a whim ] got carried away.

[ L A M E, and he might appreciate that sentiment, someday. ]

[She smiles thoughtfully]

I'm sure he was. Everyone has things they aren't proud of in their past.

[ ... no, he was pretty sure Komui was proud of each and every single incident he caused. ]

Uh, yes... [ he cleared his throat ] Do you have something you're not proud of? [ perhaps it was the coffee, maybe the treats, but whatever it was, he was curious. ]

[The therapy session itself was nothing she'd have problems with normally. THAT was something she'd never normally share, but over the course of the session, everything had gotten to her and she was willing to share it]

Myself and my two teammates were ready to kill another because if her powers surfaced, it meant the end of the world. Her appearance on our world was not a welcome sight.

[It had been duty at the time, but she wasn't proud of it now because if they had proceeded, they would have doomed their own world]

[ he just nodded along and sipped his tea, setting his cup down on the saucer that came from who knows where with a gentle clink when she was finished. ]

Why would that be a moment to be unproud of? Being prepared to do what you think is right and needing to, are two different things, aren't they?

They are. However, I am unproud of it now for two reasons. The first is she was just a child and she has become like a daughter to me. The second is that if we had succeeded, we would have doomed our world as she was the one who actually saved it.

[ Bak understood, to a degree, the wishes of the heart. His parents had attempted to correct a dreadful wrong where Alma and Kanda had been concerned. Bak had made his vows in turn only to discover how useless they were, and yet... Kanda was one of their greatest assets. He could no more deny that now then he had been able to before. Still... ]

You don't know that. What happens in one timeline, may not happen in another. The event that could have destroyed your world may never have happened if she had been removed from it to begin with.

[ he smiled faintly, then ]

And on that matter, you may not have met her at all if not for your sense of duty. One can never predict the future. [ and not even the past sometimes. All events were inevitably skewed between one perspective or another. It's a simple fact. ]

That is true. It is hard to say what would have happened. There was actually another being inside of her that eventually took control of her because of it, but it's hard to say if it would have lived if we had killed her... or if we even would have succeeded. But the wheels had been put in motion for an attack by these monsters by her father back when she was even younger.

[She didn't believe they would have prevented anything, just perhaps made it worse. There was a reason Saturn showed up and they had nearly interfered]

[ he scratched the side of his nose, suddenly confused. ]

A person inside of her?

[ why did that sound familiar? Oh right, the noah. Of course! How could he forget. Frowning even more, he leaned forward, shifting in his chair and suddenly more business then casual observer. ]

I see. It seems you were placed in a difficult situation all around, but regardless, you were doing what you thought was best. You shouldn't beat yourself up for a might have been. You analyzed the situation, executed a plan, and never once stopped thinking. That's more then some people are ever capable.

[ and if he's brusque, it's just because it's a subject near and dear to him. It was so easy to drown in the "might have beens" ]

Yes... her father had some weird ambitions. There was a monster from another world inside of her. She - the monster - was supposed to gather energy to summon her master to take over our world using the girl as a host.

Thank you. I know I shouldn't. I can't change what I have done in the past, but it could have set the kingdom back. It always would have been ironic to spend years guarding our world from outside threats only to let one in.

You can't tell the future; you can't change the past.

[ he shook his head ]

But I understand regret. We can only do what we're capable of, even if it's not enough. You did well.

[ he leaned over and placed a hand on top of hers because, in the end, this was what Branch Chiefs were supposed to do. Comfort those who needed comforting, and give them purpose to keep on doing what needed to be done.

... even if there was no more purpose left to be had. ]
Did this girl have a name? [ because it was important (always) sometimes to remember a name. ]

[Well... actually she can tell the future to a point, but that's not what he was talking about here. She smiled as he put his hand on top of hers. He really was a nice person]

Thank you. Most of this is after thought. I agree, at the time I thought I was doing the right thing for my world.

Her name is Hotaru. Tomoe Hotaru.

Reborn?

[ how did... no, nevermind. He wasn't so sure he wished to know how she knew that with such certainty. Some mysteries were best left a mystery. Even if his fingers were twitching to understand. ]

Yes. She unfortunately died to save our world. A younger version of herself appeared only moments after the monsters had disappeared. This is how she has become my daughter.

I... see. Then you must miss her a great deal. [ despite Michiru already telling him that. fjdks can't a woman just miss her child! ]
