[Day 236] Video/Action/OTA
[It's really only through luck that everything is steady and not like being moved up and down or side to side with his fiddling of the earpiece, but after the incident that was Helen and her weird future communications device he's learned not to mess too much with things. Well, sorta kinda ish, at least he hasn't messed with the thing on his leg.

But the video turns on to one bearded English gentleman standing in front of a weeping willow and he's standing rather steady-ish as he talks because he's not sure how these things work and if jostling it will do something weird to it.
]

Last I checked removing a gentleman's clothes and hat was exceptionally rude and not really the best way to insure he is willing to stay in your attempt at a prison. [If he doesn't sound all that pleased, well he's not. At least for a brief moment before he sighs and brushes his hair down.]

But I suppose not everyone has Scotland Yard's sensibilities when it comes to the well fare of it's prisoners nor it's taste in what to give them to wear. Even Lestrade is kinder and I have yet to meet someone as rude as he can be in his line of work. [He pauses to do what amounts to a huff before fixing his hair again because he lacks a proper jacket to mess with and really how rude can you people get giving him a bright orange jumpsuit without a jacket.]

But be that as it may, I suppose I should ask if there is anyone here by the name of Helen, with a similar accent to my own. Blond or brunette, I know two women that share the name and accent and I wouldn't mind speaking to either nor to anyone that knows of them. Or someone who happens to know a different woman from my Helen's [It really sounds weird to say that.] we can discuss similar traits in such ladies if you prefer.

[Okay so that's not the best way to go about introducing himself to people but he doesn't really care especially as he totally forgot to actually introduce himself whoops. This is all said by the way, from Sector 3 where he's been wandering about before settling in near the weeping willow if anyone feels up to poking him there.]

[ so. just another day ending in y, yes?

he's probably going to get a bit of a shock when she gets closer, as she's wearing something he's probably not used to seeing. look at that. she's exposing skin. what will his future hold? her expression is one of relief when she spots him and she holds out the bag of clothes for him to look into. ]

You're fortunate I was close by.

[ and yet it still took her a while to get there. oops? ]

[Yup, yup.

He's just going to stare a bit, and stare because okay that outfit isn't even close to what she was wearing the last time he saw this version of her. But he just snaps out of it and takes the bag, looking into it as he you know debates how far he can get away with teasing her here for that delay. Logically he knows it was because she was finding him clothes but that doesn't mean she can escape his teasing.
]

Indeed, I was beginning to worry I had interrupted you in the middle of something with a gentleman.

[JUST STICKING HIS HEAD INTO THE BAG NOW...]

[ yes, well, if she'd known he would turn up today, she would have chosen something else to wear. that comment, however, gets a pointed stare from her because it's easier than acknowledging the slight flush creeping across her cheeks at the memory that thought brings up. ]

Whatever would give you that idea? I was working at the clinic, James.

[Well now that his head is still firmly attached to his body he's going to look up with the biggest grin ever and look rather proud at that flush.]

The polite gentleman I talked to before you showed up here, saying he was familiar with you. [This is primarily teasing but now he's curious.]

[ she glares at him in response. there's nothing going on here. nothing at all. nothing to see. ]

And which gentleman would this be?

[ she has a feeling she knows. but she's going to make him work for this, even if her blush isn't. ]

[He's just going to dig through the bag now and sigh, and shrug and you know play as if he's put out by this entire thing. Because he totally knows what's going on here.]

A captain, something distinctly French in name, Jean-Paul, no, Jean-Pierre? No, that's not it...

[Playing dumb is a go even as he tries to move to watch her face as he runs through names, listen to her voice for little clues.]

[ lies. there's nothing going on here. no one to be jealous of and certainly no one to be jealous of her. ]

Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

[ because her emphasis on the correct title and name doesn't say anything about how she feels towards jean-luc. not at all.

she does, however, reach for a handle on the bag to give it a shake in his direction. ]

Does it meet approval?

[To that he just grins, tilts his head and gets a bit of mischief in his eyes which really helps to hide that twinge, just a twinge because this isn't his Helen, of jealousy. Because he has no claim on his anyway so why should he be jealous of another man over a woman he doesn't even you know, have any sort of claim to a relationship with.

Yup.
]

You could have found me a hat.

[...And then maybe because he's curious and maybe because he's a troll and maybe because he actually cares, he asks:]

How long?

[ he has full claim on his helen. he just doesn't know it yet. this one's heart is with another at the moment, whether she likes it or not. ]

There wasn't time and I doubt there's one that would suit your fancy.

[ oh yes, ask her that. ]

I've been here all of 18 days. [ oh she knows what he was asking, but she's not giving him the pleasure of a real answer without dragging it out of her first. ]

[That's a grunt at the lack of a hat thing, because it's probably true and yet he doesn't believe her. But it's in the spirit of teasing her that makes him push on, grinning as he looks up at her.]

And in that time you're blushing over a Frenchman, now I am impressed he must be rather special. [Feel free to hit him anytime Helen.]

For god's sake, James. [ sob. she inhales sharply. ]

Yes. He is special, but there's nothing between us. [ lies and slander, helen. she wouldn't have kissed him otherwise. ]

[Helen, Helen just stop and admit it already. He's going to glance around him for a place to get dressed as he continues talking.]

Ah, so Helen Magnus has come to fancy a gentleman with quite the accent. At least he doesn't seem to be so keen to writing sonnets. [He's not sure if he's insulted, happy, or some combination of both. But it's at least leading him to tease her more then showing it.] Unless he has an ego to match Nikola's in which case I may question your taste in foreigners.

[ nope. she refuses to admit it to anyone but rebekah at this point and barely even to herself. there's more than just fancying him involved. she rolls her eyes at the mention of sonnets, trying not to recall that night. ]

If he started writing sonnets, I might have to break his pen. [ she doesn't see jean-luc being the sonnet-type, either. ] No, he's nothing like Nikola. If I had to compare him to anyone... [ don't mind her and her secondhand embarrassment here. ] I would have to admit he reminds me a lot of you. [ which is part of what's drawn her to jean-luc in the first place. ] Perhaps you two would get along if given the chance.

[Gotta give the man points for trying.

But now he's just going to cough and tug out the shirt in that bag now to stare at it, avoiding her eyes. Again he's not sure how to take that because things and feelings, but he does like Picard so maybe he can give the man a chance. After he gets over his worrying ways of course.
]

Perhaps so, Helen. Though I'm not sure if I should be taking that as an insult to the man or a compliment to our friendship that you'd speak so highly. I'm not exactly the best of men to be comparing someone to.

[ give her a minute. how many ways can she hint that they've had a long and wonderful courtship without breaking his heart even more. ]

You've been the best friend I could ever have wanted and more.

[ dear god feelings. too many feelings and emotions and worries lately. so instead of letting either of them worry too much, she gently tugs the shirt out of his hands, tosses it into the bag, and casually reaches up to hug him. she's missed him more than words could say and having him back again is reopening a wound she'd thought had been closed three years ago. ]

[He's rather certain he knows what she meant by that, but a part of him doesn't want to believe it. Believe that it's real and that they were a thing, that perhaps he doesn't have to wait so long back home but it's difficult to believe something like that when the last time he had such hope it got dashed by a friend turning into a cold blooded killer. So he's just going to pretend that maybe she means something else to save his heart just in case he's wrong. He'd rather not take this the wrong way at all.

So he'll just let her hug him, hugging her tighter than the last time they saw one another. This Helen can give him so much information about the future that he's slightly afraid to ask, so instead he'll settle for teasing and little hints because otherwise he's going to be hit with so many feelings that he's not sure how to handle.
]

I'm gladdened to hear that I don't become an annoyance in what I can only presume is my advanced age. [That's a bit of teasing at himself, but he just hopes she gets that he's thankful for that.]

[ someday she will drop more hints about the two of them, though she'll draw the line at scandalizing them both. for now, she just holds him close, allowing the best friend she's ever had (before rebekah here) to hug her as only one other person here has so far. ]

You? An annoyance? Honestly, James, if I hadn't given up on you after Oxford, I certainly won't in your future.

[ it's a bit of good-natured teasing and she finally pulls back to give him a teasing smirk. ]

Speaking of annoying, the jumpsuit has to be just that. Shall I take you somewhere so you can change?

[Well that's always a good line for them really. But he is going to take advantage of that hug, because this is a very weird situation and she's the only familiar face here for him.]

I wouldn't say that, I think I'd have rather earned some annoyances with my habits in your house. But it's good to know I don't scare you off to quickly.

[But the teasing is appreciated and he gives her a smirk in return, smoothing out his jumpsuit out of habit.]

That would be nice yes, otherwise I think I'll be uncomfortable the entire time until I can get myself a new suit.

I should think you and I both would have earned annoyances towards each other, but even so, you could hardly frighten me off. I always enjoy your company. [ always had, always would. really, it feels as though she's gotten another chance, -- a third chance? -- with him here and she isn't about to waste it. ]

This way, then. I'll take you to the clinic, as it's closer.

[ she turns in the direction of the building, which isn't too far away, and motions for him to follow her. ]
