day 235 | action; ota | locked voice;
[ day 235 begins early and ends late. it's obvious to anyone who runs across her that she hasn't slept well. she's kept herself up or something did and now she's got a lot on her mind. she does make an attempt to keep to her normal schedule and can be found at the clinic for a good part of the day. towards mid-afternoon, she gives up that idea, after having found herself lost in thought for the tenth time that hour. she looks for martha to let her know that she's leaving early and not to take her temperature. the last thing she wants is for someone to think she's fallen ill, though she wouldn't blame them if they did.

after that, she wanders the dome. the library, the parks, the beach, and the athletic complex are all fair game for her stops. at the end of the time normally considered early evening, she finally turns to her communicator and sends a private voice communication to rebekah. ]

You wouldn't happen to know where to get a good bottle of wine or two, would you?

[ it's completely another request to talk with her friend, because she really needs to work some things out and if anyone can help her sort out her thoughts, it's rebekah. ]

( ooc: she can be found literally anywhere in the dome or in the morning / early afternoon hours at the clinic! )

[ The most obvious benefit to a fake sun was being able to walk around in the daytime without the fear of being burnt to a crisp and Rose was going to take advantage of this by taking a stroll through the park. No other purpose to it than to enjoy the weather while it lasted.

On her way around the park she catches sight of Helen, stopping immediately in her tracks to greet the other woman, walking over to her.
]

Helen! I'm glad to see you again.

[ she's a little surprised to hear her name, but that's mostly the distraction talking. her head snaps up and she glances over at the other woman with a tight-lipped smile. she's clearly distracted, her mind on other things. ]

Rose. Hi. Lovely day to be outside.

[ worst way to start a conversation. ]

It is. [ rose agrees with a nod before taking a closer look at helen, getting the distinct feeling that something was up with her. which only makes rose concerned and it reads in her expression. ]

Is everything all right?

Yes, of course. [ no it isn't. she takes a deep breath. ] There's just a lot on my mind. [ a lot she's not quite used to having on her mind. emotions are too complicated and tangled for her preference. ]

Do you need someone to talk about it with? [ an offer she doesn't have to accept but rose is letting her know that she's there if helen needs some support. ]

Only if you're more practiced in the ways of personal relationships than I am. [ she's so distracted and turned around that practically all of her walls have crumbled in the last day. ]

Probably not but I'm here to listen at least. A problem shared is a problem solved; although, I'm not sure how much faith I would put into that. [ a small attempt to lighten the mood but it mightn't work. ]

It might work for someone with fewer problems than I have on a normal day. [ the sanctuary makes her life difficult, though she wouldn't trade it for anything. ] It's been over a century since I had a problem I couldn't deal with on my own. [ not that she's admitting this is one she can't handle by herself. ]

That's an excellent record. [ rose is certain that helen could probably handle just about anything that life threw at her. she was just having trouble with whatever this was. ]

But I'm here to listen so tell me. If you want to sit down before talking then that's fine.

[ so she might have been exaggerating a little bit, but it's mostly true. she certainly hasn't had this type of problem in over a century.

for now, she chooses to remain standing, turning to gaze at the nearest tree for a moment. ]
It's always so fascinating how the topics you don't wish to discuss end up being the most relevant. Particularly when you find yourself in the company of someone you never expected to be so fond of.

[ rose watches helen quietly, waiting for her to say whatever was on her mind; she hopes that she would be able to do something to help, even if was just listening to her. ]

This someone that you are referring to, is it someone from home or a person you met here? You don't have to give me their name, I would just like to know where they're from.

He's here, though for all I know, there's an older version of myself in his world. [ the idea is only slightly strange to someone who has traveled back in time before. she vaguely wonders if rose even knows jean-luc, but for the moment, she pushes that question aside. ] He and I have only known each for a short time, but I find myself drawn to him.

Sometimes, you can't help being drawn to someone. You just are and you find yourself wanting to spend as much time with them as possible. [ she thinks of spike for a moment, a fond look crossing her face before she focuses on helen again. ] If you like him, then that can only be a good thing, yes?

Some days I wonder. [ what, exactly, she's wondering is up for interpretation. ] At my age and experience... caring for people is difficult. I've lost everyone I loved to time, circumstance, or terrible luck and I know someday I will lose him, as well. That's the real issue, I suppose.

I couldn't blame you for feeling like that because I know what it's like and I wish it hadn't happened. [ Like losing Trevor. ] You feel like if you do develop feelings for someone, it will get taken away and there's nothing you can do about it. That being said, I don't think you should let it stop you from pursuing something.

[ helen glances at rose sympathetically. they've both likely lost so many people who were close to them. she isn't used to having people around her who understand. sometimes it's difficult to remember she's not alone here.

not alone at all. ]

That's it exactly. [ her voice is soft, sad. ] I could lose him tomorrow or the next day or sometime in the distant future. The idea is frightening. There's so much neither of us knows about the other. Do we even have time to go over my lifespan, let alone his?

[ hi, rose. helen doesn't do emotions like this well. she's been alone for far too long. ]

If he is good like you say he is, then I think he would give you as much time as you need, Helen. I can understand your fears. Believe me. I have someone in my life whom I met here and I always worry that he'll get sent back home.

[ she reaches over with a hand, placing it gently on helen's forearm.]

I hope it works out between the two of you. I'd like to see you happy.

[ the gesture and the words accompanying it are greatly appreciated, even if helen can't quite say as much yet. ]

I know... It's difficult when you've lived as long as I have, as long as I would assume you have as well.

[ the well wishes mean a lot to her, though, and she offers a sad smile. ]

I wish the same for you. Perhaps I can learn to deal with this in a better way than I usually do.

I think you will find a way to cope, Helen. You're capable of it.

[ she was one of the strongest people that rose knew in the prison. ]

Thank you for saying that. I appreciate the words, they mean a lot to me. Maybe you and I can help each other somehow. Even in in a small way.

[ the vote of confidence means a lot to helen and her expression shows the gratitude she can't quite give voice to. ]

I certainly hope so. You already have as it is. I only wish our situations were a bit easier to deal with.

You've helped me too. Quite a bit actually. [ she smiles a little, giving helen's arm another squeeze before dropping her hand. ]

It would be nice if they could be a bit more manageable but I think we'll be all right.

I hope you're right. Things don't tend to go very well when I'm not all right.

[ they really really don't. and it's usually because she's stiff and isolated. ]

Well, I can't have that now. Between the two of us, we'll work it out. Whatever 'it's is.

[ they had all of the time in the world so to speak. ]
